Jennings entitled "The Development of Education in the North Riding of Yorkshire 1902 - 1939" The aim of this work is to describe the growth of the educational system in a local authority area. The education acts, regulations of the Board and the educational theories of the period are detailed together with their effect on the national system. Local conditions of geograpliy and industry are also described in so far as they affected education in the North Riding of Yorkshire and resulted in the creation of an educational system characteristic of the area. -

CITY OF YORK Local Biodiversity Action Plan 2017 City of York Local Biodiversity Action Plan - Executive Summary What is biodiversity and why is it important? Biodiversity is the variety of all species of plant and animal life on earth, and the places in which they live. Biodiversity has its own intrinsic value but is also provides us with a wide range of essential goods and services such as such as food, fresh water and clean air, natural flood and climate regulation and pollination of crops, but also less obvious services such as benefits to our health and wellbeing and providing a sense of place. We are experiencing global declines in biodiversity, and the goods and services which it provides are consistently undervalued. Efforts to protect and enhance biodiversity need to be significantly increased. The Biodiversity of the City of York The City of York area is a special place not only for its history, buildings and archaeology but also for its wildlife. York Minister is an 800 year old jewel in the historical crown of the city, but we also have our natural gems as well. York supports species and habitats which are of national, regional and local conservation importance including the endangered Tansy Beetle which until 2014 was known only to occur along stretches of the River Ouse around York and Selby; ancient flood meadows of which c.9-10% of the national resource occurs in York; populations of Otters and Water Voles on the River Ouse, River Foss and their tributaries; the country’s most northerly example of extensive lowland heath at Strensall Common; and internationally important populations of wetland birds in the Lower Derwent Valley. -

Community Safety Overview and Scrutiny Committee Restructure of North Yorkshire Police 1. Background 1.1 On Monday (13 December 2010) the Home Office announced grant funding settlements for police forces in England and Wales incorporating a 5.1% reduction. For North Yorkshire Police, this equates to a reduction of approximately £24m by 2014/15. This settlement ensures comprehensive plans to balance the budget will have to be put into action. North Yorkshire Police force will undergo a significant restructure to maximise efficiency whilst protecting front- line service delivery. 2. Introduction 2.1 It is recognised that public sector spending cuts will have significant implications for the police service. As a service, policing has had a “can do” ethos and will rise to the challenge, but it is recognised this will not be easy. Nationally it is understood that there are difficult choices ahead for police leaders at all levels of the service; for police partners; and for government. 2.2 The scale of cuts that are before North Yorkshire Police force are, however, so significant that “protecting the frontline” cannot mean maintaining the front line at current levels”. In this context protection is more about mitigating the impacts and ensuring all other avenues for efficiencies are exploited, before reaching the point where frontline resources are reduced. This includes changing the way we use and deploy officers to maximise their impact in the community. 2.3 The reviews that have been undertaken in North Yorkshire Police have helped the organisation further understand the demands it faces on a day to day basis across the force wide area (North Yorkshire & City of York). -

Page 15 Agenda Item 4a COMMITTEE REPORT Date: 22 July 2010 Ward: Skelton, Rawcliffe, Clifton Without Team: Planning Committee Parish: Rawcliffe Parish Council Reference: 10/01091/FULM Application at: York Health Services NHS Trust Blue Beck Drive York YO30 5RA For: Erection of single and two storey building to provide clinical and administrative accommodation, car and cycle parking, service road, fencing, landscaping works, CCTV cameras, external lighting, balcony and external staircase By: NHS North Yorkshire And York Application Type: Major Full Application (13 weeks) Target Date: 23 August 2010 Recommendation: Approve after referral to Sec. of State 1.0 PROPOSAL 1.1 Clifton Park Hospital comprises a collection of two storey brick built Victorian buildings together with a two storey brick built treatment centre dating from the 1990s set within large well landscaped grounds. The site forms part of the wider former Clifton Hospital complex which has also in part been developed for housing and a hotel/restaurant. The facilities provided by Clifton House for male psychiatric patients requiring a low level of security form a continuing element of the earlier activity associated with Clifton Hospital. The site lies astride the boundary between Flood Zones 2 and 3 and lies within the York Green Belt. Full planning permission is sought for the erection of a 1 and 2 storey extension to Clifton House to provide clinical accommodation for 26 female psychiatric patients who require a low level of security together with associated office accommodation. The application site is largely comprised in the built footprint of the former Rosedale Ward which provided psychiatric services until it was demolished in the late 1990s, the site having previously been earmarked for housing. -

Summary: Key Facts Worldwide, 3.3 million deaths each year result from harmful use of alcohol. This represents 5.9% of all deaths (World Health Organisation). Excess alcohol consumption causes death and disability relatively early in life. In the 20–39 year old age group, approximately 25% of the total deaths within this group are linked to alcohol (World Health Organisation). There is a causal relationship between harmful use of alcohol and a range of mental and behavioural disorders, conditions and injuries. Alcohol contributes to over 60 health conditions and is linked to crime and anti-social behaviour. -

2020-21 Planning your future post-16 A guide for parents, carers and young people Planning for your future | 2020-21 1 It all begins here Year 11 can be both a very exciting time and a very stressful time for young people. On top of finishing coursework and taking exams, your son or daughter will have to make important choices about what they want to do next year. It is also an important time for you as a parent or carer. Your help and support is vital and you need to ensure that you have all the information you need to help them make their decisions. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, most students were not able to attend school from the end of March to the end of the summer term. Added to this, at the time of writing, arrangements for GCSE and other examinations in 2021 have not yet been confirmed, although a three week delay to the usual timetable has been announced. This means that our young people find themselves in an uncertain situation – we want to support them through this difficult period as well as possible so that they can progress successfully to their next stage. FRIENDS OF RAWCLIFFE MEADOWS Annual Report 2016 The Urban Buzz bee bank November 2016 © Mick Phythian INTRODUCTION Rawcliffe Meadows, covers 25 acres of the Clifton floodplain on the northern outskirts of York and has been managed for conservation since 1990. It was notified by Natural England as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), along with Clifton Ings, in September 2013. The site is owned by the Environment Agency and leased to Sustrans, the cycle track operator. It is managed by Friends of Rawcliffe Meadows (FoRM), a voluntary group belonging to the York Natural Environment Trust (YNET). As well as providing access to open countryside for local people, Rawcliffe Meadows is managed as a traditional Ings flood meadow under the Environmental Stewardship scheme. This is the twenty-sixth Annual Report of the Friends of Rawcliffe Meadows, summarising our work during the year 2016. On 3rd January 2016 we held an excellent 'silver anniversary' work party with fifteen people present (Pete, Judi, Masha, Mick, Mark (1), Mark (3) and Julie, Mark (4) along with Kevin and Vanessa and their three children Noah, Theo and Evan - the biggest surprise was when volunteer Helen brought her brother Phil Gray along, who had initiated the whole thing in 1990). Considering that the number of volunteers can sometimes be just three, the task to clear the section of the Rawcliffe Country Park hedge that the replacement sewer had disrupted and replant with some new trees took no time at all (planting three Holly, four Hawthorn and three Gorse), along with clearing the competing vegetation from last year’s plants. -

Post 16 Provisions Post 16 special schools. The nearest specialist school for most families would be Springhead school in Scarborough which offers a Post 16 curriculum. More information on the provision they offer can be found on www.sprinhead.n-yorks.sch.uk or you can contact the school on 01723 367829. Springhead Post 16 provision, from September 2017, will be based at Lady Edith’s Drive in Scarborough. Welburn Hall school in Kirbymoorside offer Post 16 provision on both a daily and boarding basis (although boarding is limited by space). More information on the provision they offer can be found on www.welburn-hall.n-yorks.sch.uk or you can contact the school on 01751 431218. More information on special schools can be found on the North Yorkshire Website www.northyorks.gov.uk/send-lovcal-offer. Askham Bryan College York, offer a range of courses at entry level based around animal care, for horticulture and land based skills. The website address is www.askham-brayn.ac.uk. Bishop Burton College, Beverley offers a range of courses starting at the entry level based around animal care, horticultures and land based skills. The website address is www.bishopburton.ac.uk. Future Works based at The Street offer courses for those not yet ready for employment or further education. The course is called Improve My Prospects and runs for 2 days a week. Gateshead College offer a programme called ‘Project Choice’ which is based at The Street in Scarborough, to support young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities into work.
