The article is based on a research project comprising three studies: a qualitative study, an analysis of websites and information material, and an internet-based survey. The results highlight the important role played by the parishes for older visitors, in terms of providing community, support and religious services. However, people above the age of 65 were virtually invisible on the church websites and in other information material. This paradox will be discussed and the concept of ageism is used in the analysis. This article is published with open access at Springerlink.com Abstract This article presents new research on income-based child indicators for immigrant children from 17 different national backgrounds and children of parents born in Sweden observed during the 3-year periods 1983–85, 1995–97 and 2008–10. This research examines mean household income, representation at the top of the income distribution and relative poverty differ for immigrant children from the corre- sponding levels among children with native born parents. Most of the analysis is concentrated on the second generation of immigrant children. It is shown that the relative position of immigrant children deteriorated between 1983–85 and 1995–97 when the labour market situation of immigrant parents weakened more than among native born parents. Changes thereafter were more complex. Children born in Sweden to parents from Denmark, Norway or Germany were as likely as children of native born parents to be observed at the top of the income distribution in contrast to children of parents from countries with middle or low human development. Poverty rates among immigrant children were higher among all categories of immigrant children in 2008–10 than among children of native born parents. These cross origin differences in income- based child indicators can be attributed to the reasons and qualifications parents had when they entered Sweden and the number of years since their immigration. -

Hall \ THE MISSIONARY SPIRIT IN THE AUGUSTANA CHURCH The American church is made up of many varied groups, depending on origin, divisions, changing relationships. One of these was the Augustana Lutheran Church, founded by Swedish Lutheran immigrants and maintain ing an independent existence from 1860 to 1962 when it became a part of a larger Lutheran community, the Lutheran Church of America. The character of the Augustana Church can be studied from different viewpoints. In this volume Dr. George Hall describes it as a missionary church. It was born out of a missionary concern in Sweden for the thousands who had emigrated. As soon as it was formed it began to widen its field. Then its representatives were found in In dia, Puerto Rico, in China. The horizons grew to include Africa and Southwest Asia. Two World Wars created havoc, but also national and international agencies. -

Lutheran Churches in Australia By Jake Zabel 2018 These are all the Lutheran Church bodies in Australia, to the best of my knowledge. I apologise in advance if I have made any mistakes and welcome corrections. English Lutheran Churches Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) The largest Lutheran synod in Australia, the Lutheran Church of Australia (LCA) was formed in 1966 when the two Lutheran synods of that day, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Australia (ELCA) and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Australia (UELCA), united into one Lutheran synod. The LCA has churches all over Australia and some in New Zealand. The head of the LCA is the synodical bishop. The LCA is also divided in districts with each district having their own district bishop. The LCA is an associate member of both the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) and the International Lutheran Council (ILC). The LCA is a member of the National Council of Churches in Australia. The LCA has official altar-pulpit fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELCPNG) and Gutnius Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (GLCPNG) and a ‘Recognition of Relationship’ with the Lutheran Church of Canada (LCC). The LCA also has missions to the Australia Aboriginals. The LCA also has German, Finnish, Chinese, Indonesian and African congregations in Australia, which are considered members of the LCA. The LCA is also in fellowship with German, Latvian, Swedish, and Estonian congregations in Australia, which are not considered members of the LCA. Evangelical Lutheran Congregations of the Reformation (ELCR) The third largest synod in Australia, the Evangelical Lutheran Congregations of the Reformation (ELCR), formed in 1966 from a collection of ELCA congregations who refused the LCA Union of 1966 over the issue of the doctrine of Open Questions. -

KRAEMER2 ^Institute of Economics, Politics, and Public Administration, Aalborg University, Fibigerstrcede 1, 9220 Aalborg, Denmark and 2Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations, University of California, Irvine, California 92717, USA New information technologies have the potential to transform the ways governments are organized, the activities they perform, the manner in which such activities are performed and even the nature of the work itself. Governments in the US and Scandinavia have followed fundamentally different approaches to the introduction of computing and to dealing with its effects. In the US, automation has been individualistic - each individual unit of government has introduced the technology according to its own needs. For the most part, the implemented systems were small scale, have followed functional lines, have merely automated existing operations, were implemented incrementally and have evolved slowly over time. In contrast, automation in Scandinavia has been communal - systems have been designed, developed and implemented by communal data processing agencies serving an entire level of government, national or local. The systems introduced were relatively large scale, have crossed functional lines, have involved the reorganization of work, have integrated both data and work processes, and were implemented more or less simultaneously for all units or agencies of government. These differences in approach to automation have influenced each country's view of the role of government in anticipating and dealing with the effects of changes in computer technology on the public workforce. -

To Remember the Reformation According to Collins Concise Dictionary, “Commemoration” means, “to honour or keep alive the memory of.”1 It is weaker than the wording “Reformation Jubilee,” which generated 393 000 hits on Google, compared with merely 262 000 for “Reformation Commemoration.”2 According to the same dictionary, the meaning of “Jubilee” is “a time or season for rejoicing.” For a Swedish Catholic, there is, however, little to rejoice about when considering the consequences of the reformation; instead, the memories that naturally come to mind are those of several centuries of persecution, repression and marginalization.3 The rejoicing of a jubilee is, hence, completely alien for a Swedish Catholic when looking back to the reformation, but it is also difficult to acquiesce to the weaker meaning of “honoring” the reformation, as implied by the notion of commemoration. The reformation in Sweden was not especially honorable. The second part of the meaning of commemoration “to keep alive the memory of” is more suitable, but then in a form of a tragic remembering; we grieve over what we have lost. In the village where I live, for example, there is a beautiful white stone church from the 12th century. It was thus Catholic for five hundred years before the reformation, but has since then been a Lutheran Church. Instead, I have to travel by car for half an hour to attend mass in the Catholic Church, which is a former protestant Free Church chapel from the 1960s.4 All the priests are Polish, and so is, I guess, half the parish. -

Uppsala University, Department of Musicology, 2016. Keywords: polyphony, organum, discant, Swedish music, the Middle Ages, oral transmission. The polyphonic sources of medieval Sweden are very few, although well-documented in musicological research. However, while most of the earlier research has tended to focus on interpreting the sources themselves rather than to examine the cultural and historical context in which they were written, the present dissertation aims at providing a broader narrative of the transmission and practice of polyphony. By examining the cultural context of the sources and putting them in relation to each other, a bigger picture is painted, where also Danish and Norwegian sources are included. Based on the discussion and analyses of the sources, a general historical outline is suggested. The practice of organum in the late 13th century in Uppsala was probably a result from Swedes studying in Paris and via oral transmission brought the practice back home. This ‘Parisian path’ was accompanied by an ‘English-Scandinavian’ path, where mostly Denmark and Norway either influenced or were influenced by English polyphonic practice. During the 14th century, polyphony seems to have been rather established in Sweden, although prohibitions against it were made by the Order of the Bridgettines. These prohibitions were probably linked to a general anti- polyphonic attitude in Europe, beginning with the papal bull of John XII in 1324. -

Statement of Government Policy 6 October 2006
Check against delivery Statement of Government Policy presented by the Prime Minister, Mr Fredrik Reinfeldt, to the Swedish Riksdag on Friday, 6 October 2006 Madam/Mr Speaker, The parties that make up Alliance for Sweden – the Moderate Party, the Centre Party, the Liberal Party and the Christian Democrats – have agreed to form a government to renew Sweden. Alliance for Sweden has won the confidence of the voters to carry out the policies set forth in the Bankeryd agreement, the joint economic policy presented in the Riksdag in the spring and the political programme we agreed on in the Alliance’s election manifesto. For the first time in 25 years, the election result has laid the foundation for a stable majority government. The people of Sweden have given the Government a clear mandate. Alliance for Sweden is an alliance for all of Sweden. We intend to pursue policies for our entire country and in the interests of all its people. When possible, we will seek the broadest possible support in the Riksdag and we look for good cooperation with all who want to contribute to a better Sweden. We will be an open government that listens to all citizens. The Government sees a number of major tasks ahead. More people who are able to work and want to work must also have opportunities to support themselves by their own work, to experience the satisfaction and feeling of belonging that work confers, and to do so in secure circumstances. The Government’s overall objective is to create conditions for more jobs in more and growing businesses and by this means to break the pattern of social exclusion.
