Sand pit for Biodiversity at Cep II quarry Researcher: Klára Řehounková Research group: Petr Bogusch, David Boukal, Milan Boukal, Lukáš Čížek, František Grycz, Petr Hesoun, Kamila Lencová, Anna Lepšová, Jan Máca, Pavel Marhoul, Klára Řehounková, Jiří Řehounek, Lenka Schmidtmayerová, Robert Tropek Březen – září 2012 Abstract We compared the effect of restoration status (technical reclamation, spontaneous succession, disturbed succession) on the communities of vascular plants and assemblages of arthropods in CEP II sand pit (T řebo ňsko region, SW part of the Czech Republic) to evaluate their biodiversity and conservation potential. We also studied the experimental restoration of psammophytic grasslands to compare the impact of two near-natural restoration methods (spontaneous and assisted succession) to establishment of target species. The sand pit comprises stages of 2 to 30 years since site abandonment with moisture gradient from wet to dry habitats. In all studied groups, i.e. vascular pants and arthropods, open spontaneously revegetated sites continuously disturbed by intensive recreation activities hosted the largest proportion of target and endangered species which occurred less in the more closed spontaneously revegetated sites and which were nearly absent in technically reclaimed sites. Out results provide clear evidence that the mosaics of spontaneously established forests habitats and open sand habitats are the most valuable stands from the conservation point of view. It has been documented that no expensive technical reclamations are needed to restore post-mining sites which can serve as secondary habitats for many endangered and declining species. The experimental restoration of rare and endangered plant communities seems to be efficient and promising method for a future large-scale restoration projects in abandoned sand pits. -

Large grazing herbivores drive the ecology of the site and can have a profound impact on invertebrates, both positive and negative. This survey was commissioned in order to assess the site’s invertebrate assemblage in a standardised and repeatable way both internally between fields and sections and temporally between years. Discussione Le patch di neoformazione sono piccole e numerose, segno di un’afforestazione a “macchia di leopardo”, risultante dalla creazione di nuovi elementi in aree non boscate. Il nuovo mosaico del paesaggio è solo moderatamente aggregato, e si presenta altrettanto fitto rispetto a quello originario. I medesimi cambiamenti che hanno interessato le pinete si possono riscontrare, seppure con intensità più modeste, a scala di versante. Il fatto che alcuni indici rimangano invariati a distanza di 50 anni è legato al fatto che estese aree con coperture non forestali si conservino tali, a causa delle limitazioni stazionali legate alla morfologia. Le dinamiche osservate trovano giustificazione soprattutto in fattori ecologici, e in particolare nel background socio-economico che caratterizza il sito. Una più capillare diffusione sul territorio della presenza e dell’attività antropica, unita a incentivi economici alla residenza e al presidio del territorio, fanno sì che a St. Denis l’abbandono riguardi piccole zone disgiunte. I nuclei di neoformazione possono insediarsi rapidamente ma in modo discontinuo, e rimangono alternati ad aree attivamente mantenute dalla presenza umana. Le zone interessate dall’attività umana (il fondovalle, la fascia medio-altitudinale e le aree pianeggianti) hanno conservato in gran parte l’uso non forestale del suolo. La conservazione di prati, pascoli e aree urbanizzate, unita al processo di successione forestale in atto nelle aree abbandonate, dà origine ad un mosaico paesaggistico assai vario e complesso. L’espansione della superficie forestale legata all’abbandono delle terre marginali è un dato costante, ma le modalità con cui avviene la colonizzazione arborea differiscono significativamente, pur originando da un pattern iniziale molto simile. -

Auf Basis umfassender aktueller Freilanderhebungen und unter Einbeziehung Biodiversität, diverser historischer Datenquellen wurde ein Arteninventar xylobionter Käfer erstellt. Collection Herrmann, Die aktuellen Kartierungen erfolgten schwerpunktmäßig in der Vegetations Buprestis splendens, periode 2012 in den Natura2000gebieten AT2112000 „Villacher Alpe (Dobratsch)“ Gnathotrichus und AT2120000 „Schüttgraschelitzen“ mit 15 Kroneneklektoren (Kreuzfensterfallen), materiarius, Besammeln durch Handfang, Klopfschirm, Kescher und Bodensieb sowie durch das Acanthocinus Eintragen von Totholz. henschi, In Summe wurden in der Schütt 536 Käferspezies – darunter 320 xylobionte – Kiefernblockwald, aus 65 Familien nachgewiesen. E. abieticola spec. nov. has been reared from Pissodes piceae (Illiger) (Coleoptera: Cur- culionidae) in the cambium layer of Abies alba Linnaeus, and E. heothinus spec. nov. from P. striatulus (Fabricius) in the trunk of Abies balsemea (Linnaeus). Abstracts of Oral and Poster Presentations Arranged in Alphabetical Order of First Author’s Family Name 1 2 SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS WITHIN RURAL COMMUNITIES OF THE NORTH-WEST PROVINCE OF CAMEROON, STRONG STRATEGIC APPROACHES FOR CLIMATE CHANGE IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA Walters Achu Awa1 Human actions on forests, such as uncontrollable harvesting of medicinal plants, felling of trees, farming, bush fires and local bee farming practices like generating smoke to drive away bees from a hive by burning fresh leaves of plants, provide negative effects on climate. This paper presents an analysis of the scientific evidence, indicating that negative influence on forests is affecting the climate in Cameroon. Sea levels are rising; rainfall has decreased by 11%, early rains, increased temperatures and flooding. The paper identifies strategic approaches that are practised in tackling forest management and climate change in Cameroon. Examples are: tree planting, renewable energy, solar powers, water powers, etc. It describes also, generated land use systems, forests conservation methods and farming techniques, which influence climate change and the health of the forest positively. The concept of indigenous ecosystem and forest management systems used in this paper refers to the series of practices based on agreed rules, carried out by the local people, aiming at the sustained availability of products and services from trees, crops and forests through sustainable development for climate change. Local populations surrounding these forests understand the education of community forestry, taking an active leading role in preserving and protecting the forests, in order to ensure long- term benefits and stop the ill effects of climate change in the society. -
