Surgical Oncology (SO) is an internationally peer reviewed journal publishing original research both clinical and translational, comprehensive reviews, multimedia articles, and meta-analyses that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in surgical oncology. Occasionally, SO publishes exceptional editorials and commentaries as they relate to selected papers. SO's articles represent a spectrum of current technology in oncology research as well as those concerning clinical trials, surgical technique, methods of investigation and patient evaluation/outcomes. Your Paper Your Way We now differentiate between the requirements for new and revised submissions. You may choose to submit your manuscript as a single Word or PDF file to be used in the refereeing process. Only when your paper is at the revision stage, will you be requested to put your paper in to a 'correct format' for acceptance and provide the items required for the publication of your article. INTRODUCTION Scope of papers Surgical Oncology (SO) is an internationally peer reviewed journal publishing original research both clinical and translational, comprehensive reviews, multimedia articles, and meta-analyses that contribute to the advancement of knowledge in surgical oncology. Occasionally, SO publishes exceptional editorials and commentaries as they relate to selected papers. SO's articles represent a spectrum of current technology in oncology research as well as those concerning clinical trials, surgical technique, methods of investigation and patient evaluation/outcomes. Types of contributions Original Article: We recommend that Original Studies contain 2000-8000 words, figures and/or tables, and 30-60 references. Review articles: Review articles have a limit of 6,000 words, with an unlimited number of references. Authors are asked to provide an unstructured abstract of no more than 250 words and a list of keywords. Commentaries: Commentaries are short pieces of between 2,000 and 3,000 words. Commentaries do not include an abstract or keywords and may include a list of up to ten references. All Commentaries are commissioned by the Editor-in-Chief. Authors wishing to write a Commentary must discuss this with the Editor-in-Chief prior to submission ([email protected]). Editorials: Editorials are approximately 1,000 - 2,000 words in length, with no abstract or keywords. All Editorials are commissioned and authors wishing to write an Editorial must discuss this with the Editor-in-Chief prior to submission ([email protected]). New: Video articles Video articles are published in mp4 format only. The preferred format for submission and peer- review is .flv; however, the following formats are all acceptable for submission: mpg, avi, mov, wma, wmv, swf, rm, fla, flv. Please note that Elsevier will convert other acceptable formats to mp4 for publication, at which point the maximum file size is 100 MB. Please provide a video still image file as well. This is the placeholder online and in print. A still photograph (formatted as described for the video) must be included with your submission (it can be any frame from the video or may be a separate image) - this will be used as an "icon" for the video link A 250 word structured abstract must accompany the video Highlights (similar to that required for a manuscript) must be included with the video submission The maximum number of authors is four per submission The maximum number of references that can accompany the video submission is four per submission Submission checklist You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review.
