Contribuții La Cunoașterea Armatei Romane Târzii (Secolul Iv) 1 CONTRIBUȚII LA CUNOAȘTEREA ARMATEI ROMANE TÂRZII (SECOLUL IV) 1. Arme pentru lupta la distanță din fortificațiile de pe granița de nord a Daciei Ripensis NICOLAE GUDEA CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LATE ROMAN ARMY (4TH CENTURY) 1. Weapons for (Long) Distance Fights in the Fortifications on the Northern Border of Dacia Ripensis ABSTRACT From the works on the fortifications and on the army of the Late Roman province Dacia Ripensis (275-390) (fig. 1-3) the autohor (N. Gudea) selected the weapons used in distance fights: bow elements, balista elements and spearheads, heavy arrow-heads and light arrow-heads. Although there are 45 fortifications on the northern border of the province (fig. 4) (quadriburgia, old rebuilt camps, fortified towns, signal and watch towers) the publication of the weapons found in them is limited to seven sites: Donje Butorke (1), Orșova (4), Tekija (14), Kladovo-Kostol (3), Milutinovac (2), Hinova (36), Rtkovo (7), Kula (19) and Celei (5) (fig. 5-17). The launching weapons were divided into two groups: bone strenghtened from reflex bows and launching machines on mechanical basis (ballistae). Bow elements have been found only at Tekija/Transdierna and Kladovo-Kostol/Pontes; ballista pieces have been found at Orșova/Dierna; at least this is what results from the so far published discoveries. The hitting weapons are divided into three groups: 1. spearheads; 2. heavy arrow-heads; 3. light arrow-heads. Within each group the author suggests a typology according the shape of the blade, size and fastening in the handle. The spearheads fall under three divisional groups according to the shape of the blade: willow leaf shaped, pyramidal, pear leaf shaped; according to their size the spearheads are large and middle sized; as far as the fastening in the handle is concerned thus may have a gloved tube (socket) or a fixing nail (peduncle) (fig. 18-20). The heavy arrow-heads are only pyramidal shaped; they may be big or middle sized; fastened either with a gloved tube (socket) or by a fixing nail (fig. 21). The light arrow-heads are reduced in dimensions (down to 5 cm lenght); the blade shape being varied: leaf, pyramidal, rhomboidal winged rhomboidal; fastening in the handle being made either by gloved tube (socket) or by fixing nail (peduncle) (fig. 22). The above classification has been made on the basis of a small number of until now known pieces. With the increase of identified pieces the grouping an their typology can most likely be improved. Drawing a paralell between these weapons and the Late Roman weapons used for distance fights in the 4th century fortifications, dated for certain, like Vemania (Raetia II), or Gornea (Moesia I) it yet suggesting that this grouping and the typologies constitute a solid basis for the knowledge of the Late Roman weapons. Cuvinte-cheie: Dacia Ripensis, graniță, fortificații, vârfuri de lance, vârfuri de suliță, vârfuri de săgeți. Key words: Dacia Ripensis, border, fortifications, spearheads, arrowheads. .

INTRODUCTION ACTING DIRECTOR OF THE PE “ROADS OF SERBIA” ZORAN DROBNJAK “When you want to develop an area, equip it with good roads”, prof. dr Milan Vujanić says and I entirely agree with this. Interdependence of industry and roads is quite evident because roads, in addition to their main function concerning the transport of people and goods, also generate growth and development of all places through which the road network passes as well as all other which are indirectly connected with motorways and other important routes in the Republic of Serbia. Thus it is the main dedication of the PE “Roads of Serbia” to achieve what is expected from us – to successfully finish all investments and provide the same level of quality of all the roads in Serbia with constant increase of the level of traffic safety, with cordial assistance of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure. This is an imperative of our work, not only because of the expectations in front of us regarding the accession to the European Union, but also because good roads are one of the pillars of every serious and modern country. Road towards the achievement of big results starts with the devotion of individuals, each one of us. Owing to an exceptional devotion of the employees in the PE “Roads of Serbia”, achievement of the adopted plans is possible, regardless of the difficulties and not always favourable work conditions which the time sets upon us. Daily perseverance, devotion and openness of our employees to new knowledge and changes is obvious.

Trifunovic MIGRATION PROCESSES AND DEMOGRAPHIC STRUCTURE IN THE EASTERN BORDERLANDS OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA University of Kragujevac, Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences, Jagodina, Department of Humanities, 14, M. Mijalković, Jagodina, 35 000, Republic of Serbia [email protected] Abstract. Throughout the 20th century until today, Serbian society has been faced with the consequences of the lack of the development policy that would create a context of equal conditions for stronger economic, social and cultural development of different regions of the Republic of Serbia. Some of the effects of such a development policy at the beginning of the 21st century are strong migration processes that «drain» the young working population, particularly from the eastern borderlands, from the country. Migrations «associated» with decades of low birth rates trend lead to the quiet disappearance of the population in border municipalities such as Kladovo and the culture they are holding. The paper highlights the importance of creating a development policy that would rehabilitate the consequences of decades of regional disparities in the development of Serbia. The creators of the so-called contemporary Serbian society, if they intend to offer sustainable strategies, in addition to economic, social, cultural, ecological and other discourse, must include the demographic one. Each of these discourses has its important role in the overall development of the society. However, the unfavorable demographic structure can stop it.

Apart from being an area of nat- development, “Iron Gates” ural beauty, this park comprises a wide range of spectacular geological sites, National Park, sustainable tourism, historical and cultural monuments. The authors also examine the concept of Serbia, Romania geotourism and show its connection to other types of tourism such as nature tourism and adventure tourism. Using statistical methods and methods of comparative analysis, they analyse the data on tourism development in Đer- dap (Serbia) and Mehedinţi County (Romania) in 2015. Such indicators as the number of tourists and overnight stays, the number of accommodation FOR CITATION facilities, the coefficient of functionality, and so on are considered. The con- clusion is made that the national park “Iron Gates” holds significant potential Lukić, D., Petrović, M.
