The next morning, Wake up for an early morning hill tribe market in Hsipaw you'll travel via train, crossing the Gokteik Railway Viaduct, on your Fascinating boat trips on the Dohtawaddy River and walk to quiet way to Hsipaw, renowned for its authentic historic culture and sacred Shan Village power. While in town, wake up early to visit the market where many local tribe members come to trade. You'll then ride on a boat and end up at the monastery. Later in the day, local Shan villagers will welcome you before you climb up to Koe Su Mountain for sunset. On the way back to Mandalay, you'll visit a trading town populated by Shan, Chinese, and Indian traders. All right reserved. 4-Day Shan Hills Exploration tour description Day 1 : MANDALAY - PYIN OO LWIN (MAYMYO) (-/L/-) Drive up into the hills from Mandalay (80km, about 2 hours) for a full day visit of Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo), a former British hill station. Visit the local market and drive through the charming town in a horse-drawn 'stage coach', giving you the chance to admire the red brick and half-timbered houses, complete with English-style gables, turrets and chimneys. Lunch at Feel restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the tiny Forestry Museum (if open) and the National Botanical Kandawgyi Gardens, which were laid out by Sir Harcourt Butler, a former Governor of Burma - the flower beds are similar to those you would find in an English country garden! Take a short jungle walk on a wooden walkway in the gardens. Accommodation at Aureum Resort @ The Governor's House (Deluxe Bungalow Room) or similar, Maymyo. Day 2 : PYIN OO LWIN - NAUNG PIN - HSIPAW (B/L/-) Early morning, transfer to Pyin Oo Lwin (Maymyo) railway station for an adventurous train journey to Naung Pin. The train passes over the amazing Gokteik Railway Viaduct. When the Pennsylvania Steel Company built the viaduct across a 300 metre-deep gorge a century ago, it was the second highest bridge in the world. The view from the train is fascinating and the scenery is beautiful. Lunch at local restaurant or packed lunch. At Naung Pin, disembark the train and continue by car to the historic town of Hsipaw (65km, approximately 2 hours). Stop at Bawkyo Pagoda, the most revered in northern Shan State, and equivalent to Inle Lake's Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda. Accommodation at Riverside @ Hispaw Resort (Deluxe Room) or similar, Hsipaw. Day 3 : HSIPAW - BOAT TRIP AND SHORT HIKING (B/L/-) After breakfast, take a one hour boat ride upstream river to enjoy lovely scenery to the nearby mountains. Along the river you will see many different fruit and vegetable plantations. You then will do a short walk to the monastery, along pineapple and other fruit plantation. The monastery (old Thai Shan) is over 150 years old. Visit the monastery and return to the jetty to take the boat ride to the river confluence. Return back to His Paw. On the way, you will do a short hiking to a SHAN village with typical houses surrounded by charming gardens. You will observe the farmers life and visit their homes. Lunch at a local retaurant. Later in the afternoon, you will be climbed up to the Koe Su Mountain to enjoy the sunset. Accommodation at Riverside @ Hispaw Resort (Deluxe Room) or similar, Hsipaw. Day 4 : HSIPAW - MANDALAY (B/L/-) Drive back to Mandalay (205km, approximately 5'bd hours). On the way you may wish to stop at Kyaukme, a pleasant town with a majority of Shan, Chinese and Indian traders. Visit some local houses where families produce local delicacies made out of milk and Chinese silver and gold paper which are used for funerals. Lunch at local restaurant.
