PT welcomed attendees to the meeting and thanked them for expressing an interest in establishing a PPG. He explained the background to the former PPGs for the pre-merger practices: • Cheltenham Road Surgery’s PPG was made up of members of the ‘Friends of Cheltenham Road Surgery’, which was a registered charity with the principal aim of raising funds for the surgery, to be spent to the benefit of its patients. The Friends ceased to operate several years ago when several of the members became too old to continue and there were no volunteers willing to take on committee roles. Subsequent attempts to create a replacement PPG were unsuccessful. • College Yard and Highnam had a PPG, which ceased to be active around the time of the merger. 2. PPGs aim to be representative of the practice population and have a principal aim of meeting on regular basis to discuss the services on offer, and how improvements can be made for the benefit of patients and the practice. This initial meeting aimed to set the scene and agree a way ahead. PT also indicated that as a result of the practice merger we will be liable for a CQC inspection before the end of Mar 20, with the potential that they will wish to speak with the PPG at that time. -

We have also included the total number of pupils in the school so you can gauge its size. You’ll see how oversubscribed a school is by how many parents had named a school as one of their five preferences on their application form and how many of these had placed it as their first preference. Catchment area Some comprehensive schools have a catchment area consisting of parishes, district or county boundaries. Some schools will give priority for admission to those children living within their catchment area. If you live in Gloucestershire and are over 3 miles from your child’s catchment school they may be entitled to school transport provided by the Local Authority. Oversubscription criteria If a school receives more preferences than places available, the admission authority will place all children in the order in which they could be considered for a place. This will strictly follow the priority order of their oversubscription criteria. Outreach Residential Activities 2017/18 2017/18 RESIDENTIAL ACTIVITY REPORT: 16 DECEMBER 2018 University of Gloucestershire Widening Participation and Outreach - Data & Evaluation Officer, Partnerships Manager 1 Residential Report Outreach and Widening Participation Team, University of Gloucestershire Each year, the Outreach team organises and delivers two separate Residential Events for Year 10 and Year 12 students with the intention of providing an intensive experience on a university campus. The residential activities aim to build higher education (HE) knowledge to enable young people to make an informed decision about their future. Students are provided with an opportunity to learn more about the subjects that are available and the processes required to apply for HE. It is hoped that students will increase their self-confidence in their ability to attend higher education and develop a sense of belonging at university, as well as reduce barriers to participate in higher education. Both residentials take place over a four day period, with the first day allowing time and space for students to settle in and socialise with each other and the summer school staff. Student Ambassadors live residentially for the duration of each summer school, supporting the running of the events and providing their own insights into university life and their routes to higher education. Students who attend the Year 10 residential take part in a wider range of academic taster sessions while Year 12 students choose a subject strand to follow. This is so that they can try a range of courses within an Academic School to provide more insight into which course they might choose to study in the future. -

The Iron Age Tom Moore
The Iron Age Tom Moore INTRODUCfiON In the twenty years since Alan Saville's (1984) review of the Iron Age in Gloucestershire much has happened in Iron-Age archaeology, both in the region and beyond.1 Saville's paper marked an important point in Iron-Age studies in Gloucestershire and was matched by an increasing level of research both regionally and nationally. The mid 1980s saw a number of discussions of the Iron Age in the county, including those by Cunliffe (1984b) and Darvill (1987), whilst reviews were conducted for Avon (Burrow 1987) and Somerset (Cunliffe 1982). At the same time significant advances and developments in British Iron-Age studies as a whole had a direct impact on how the period was viewed in the region. Richard Hingley's (1984) examination of the Iron-Age landscapes of Oxfordshire suggested a division between more integrated unenclosed communities in the Upper Thames Valley and isolated enclosure communities on the Cotswold uplands, arguing for very different social systems in the two areas. In contrast, Barry Cunliffe' s model ( 1984a; 1991 ), based on his work at Danebury, Hampshire, suggested a hierarchical Iron-Age society centred on hillforts directly influencing how hillforts and social organisation in the Cotswolds have been understood (Darvill1987; Saville 1984). Together these studies have set the agenda for how the 1st millennium BC in the region is regarded and their influence can be felt in more recent syntheses (e.g. Clarke 1993). Since 1984, however, our perception of Iron-Age societies has been radically altered. In particular, the role of hillforts as central places at the top of a hierarchical settlement pattern has been substantially challenged (Hill 1996). -

Liberal Democrat Boundary Review Submission Gloucester City Council - Sept 2014 Introduction This submission outlines the proposal for new ward boundaries for Gloucester City Council. There will be nineteen wards of various sizes. Across the city, there will be thirty nine councillors. There are 12 wards with two councillors, 4 wards with three councillors and 3 wards with one councillor. All wards are within the maximum variation of 10% based on the 2020 figure of 2,584 electors per councillor. The Liberal Democrat group on Gloucester City Council is proposing the new boundaries. All party agreement Eight of the new wards being proposed within this report have unanimous support from members of Gloucester City Council, as agreed at the council meeting on the 25th September. A report from the city council with supporting evidence will be sent to the Boundary Commission separately. The eight wards with all party agreement are as follows 1. Barton & Tredworth – 3 councillors (existing boundaries) 2. Elmbridge – 2 councillors 3. Kingsholm & Wotton – 2 councillors 4. Kingsway – 2 councillors 5. Longlevens – 3 councillors (existing boundaries) 6. Quedgeley Fieldcourt – 2 councillors 7. Quedgeley Severn Vale – 2 councillors 8. Tuffley – 2 councillors (existing boundaries) No change in boundaries We are proposing that there is no change to two wards, where we don’t have all party agreement. 1. Moreland – 3 councillors (existing boundaries) 2. Podsmead – 1 councillor (existing boundaries) Wards on new boundaries We are proposing nine wards with new boundaries. Some of these proposals will be the same as that being suggested by one of the other two groups on the council. -

1. Overview of the Forest of Dean The modelled demand for future developments of housing with care in the Forest of Dean has highlighted an additional requirement as detailed in Table 1. Table 1: Modelled demand for housing with care Housing with care model Extra care Extra care affordable rent by 2041 Supported living by 2035 shared ownership/outright sales by 2041 Additional units required 182 0 20 Future developments of housing with care in the Forest of Dean need to consider the specific challenges and opportunities that delivering housing with care in the Forest of Dean presents: The Forest of Dean has a population of roughly 85,9571 spread over an area of 226 square miles.2 The district takes its name from the Forest of Dean itself, which forms a large part of the district and is the largest landscape feature. As well as the forest, the main geographical influences are the Severn Estuary and the Wye Valley, all of which are natural boundaries but also barriers to development. The district is adjacent to Wales and the West Midlands. Although some parts are closest to Gloucester, other parts are closer to Bristol, Newport and Hereford. The Forest of Dean is made up of 27 wards.3 Appendix 1 provides a breakdown of ONS population data; current levels of domiciliary care funded by Gloucestershire County Council (GCC); residential/nursing care; extra care and supported living at ward level. The Forest of Dean Core Strategy (FoDCS) indicates that the majority of growth within the district is likely to be planned in and around Bristol, Newport and Cardiff.4 The regeneration of the four major towns; Cinderford, Coleford, Lydney and Newent, is central to the FoDCS.
