Einer der beiden wird sich zu den bislang drei anderen Europameister-Nationen reihen. • Bisherige Sieger: Deutschland (8x), Norwegen (2x), Schweden (1x). Deutschland war von 1995 bis zur Viertelfinal- Niederlage gegen Dänemark durchgehend Titelverteidiger. Der Weg ins Finale • Die Niederlande schlugen Dänemark in der Gruppenphase mit 1:0 durch den Elfmeter von Sherida Spitse. Durch diesen knappen Erfolg erreichte Team Oranje die K.-o.-Phase als Sieger in Gruppe A. • Davor gewannen die Niederlande ebenfalls mit 1:0 gegen Norwegen sowie mit 2:1 gegen Belgien. • Im Viertelfinale folgte ein 2:0-Sieg über Schweden und ein 3:0 gegen England im Halbfinale von Enschede. • Dänemark gewann sein erstes Spiel gegen Belgien mit 1:0 und beendete die Gruppenphase mit einem 1:0-Erfolg über Norwegen. • Auf das sensationelle Comeback gegen Titelverteidiger Deutschland (2:1-Sieg nach 0:1-Rückstand) folgte ein 3:0- Sieg im Elfmeterschießen gegen Österreich. Det begyndte med drømme og udsigt til EM i fodbold på dansk jord – noget som mange i både dansk fodbold og hele Danmark havde set frem til. En folkefest og fællesskabsfølelse der med ét blev erstattet af en global pandemi. Men selv i krisetider er der positive takter. Under normale omstændigheder møder mere end en kvart million danskere op til fodboldtræning, kampe og stævner hver uge året rundt. Børn, unge, voksne, ældre, frivillige, trænere, holdledere og alle midt imellem. Alt det blev for en stund umuligt. Med et unikt samarbejde blev der åbnet for fodbolden igen, og ’Fodboldens Corona-regler’ var en realitet. På tværs af DBU, DBU Bredde, Divisionsfor- eningen, Kvindedivisionsforeningen, i klubber og blandt de frivillige blev der arbejdet hårdt. I fællesskab viste vi, at vi er stærke, ansvarlige og kan skabe løsninger til glæde og gavn for alle. Det var glædeligt, at så mange kunne nyde godt af fodboldens fællesskaber igen. Den usædvanlige situation fik sammenhold og samfundssind til at gå hånd i hånd. Vi har i DBU hele tiden arbejdet for, at folkesundhed kommer før fodbold, men vi glæder os alligevel over, at fodbold har en helt særlig plads hos mange og er en uundværlig sport for de fleste.
