St. Joseph the Worker PALM SUNDAY April 14, 2019

PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD “BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.” Today, the Church celebrates Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord. In the Masses of this day, we hear of entering in triumph followed by the only a few days later. The of Palm Sunday celebrates the welcome of Jesus into Jerusalem as the long awaited Messiah. Yet later, in the account of the Passion and Death of Jesus, we will hear the same crowds crying out “Crucify him! Crucify him!” The change of heart by the crowd reflects our own inclination to bind and hold God to our expectations. Jesus, by taking up the and calling us to take up our own , can anger and disappoint us just like the crowds. We want the liberation of God on our terms. Palm Sunday shows us that true freedom comes when we let God be God. The glory of the Resurrection on the third day shows us that the wisdom of God truly and freely shatters our slavery to our own selfishness and sin and exceeds all our expectations. May this be a time of deepening our love and connection to Jesus, our true and merciful Savior and Redeemer.

May God – Father, Son, Holy Spirit – abundantly bless you and your families in this coming week! In Christ, Fr. Ted Prentice, Pastor
