Please see the attached list of badge opportunities (Tigers through to Eagle) for more information. Several activities require preregistration. Interviews— June 2, 2018, is the celebration of the historical Richardsonian Romanesque Revival Style Armory’s 125-year anniversary. The Grays will recognize this event with special exhibits, armory tours, and walkabout excursions of Cleveland’s historic sites. Veterans and active military from all branches will be on-hand to answer questions and accept interviews with preregistered scouts. Architects from the American Institute of Architects will also be on-hand to answer questions and accept interviews with preregistration. Walkabouts— This day celebrates the 125-year anniversary of the 1893 placement of the Cornerstone laying at the foundation of the landmark Cleveland Grays Armory. In recognition of this historic occasion, scouts may register for one of two historic walkabouts. These will include the Armory, , the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, and various historic sites or Cleveland architecture as well as a few very special surprises. One Behind the Scenes at Tour is also available with preregistration. Spaces are limited to 25 per tour. Early Registration is highly recommended. Heritage Activities—During the Cornerstone Celebration, a patriotic participation area will contain stations for wrapping care packages, writing deployed soldiers, giving thanks to past and present military, and learning more about early military heritage. Donations for Troops and Veterans— We are partnering with the USO and the National Guard to “Fill the Hummer” with care package items for deployed soldiers (please see page 3 for a list of the most needed items). In homeless shelters, one of the most requested and least donated items is socks. Today, a growing number of veterans find themselves in homeless shelters. Eagle Scout Hopefuls: The Cleveland Grays are seeking leadership and assistance in creating an “All About Flags” bulletin board, a welcome booth/table, a scavenger hunt and Fun-Fact Cards for our Cornerstone Event. Each Badge Booster is intended to address the bolded requirements listed for the badge identified. If a badge requires your couselors permission, please obtain it prior to June 2, 2018. With the exception of Walkabouts and the Playhouse Square Tour, every program takes place inside the Armory. Walkabouts will take place around downtown Cleveland. All programs are led by volunteers. Preregistered participants will be accommodated. Unregistered scouts, however, cannot be guaranteed space in walkabouts, the veteran and architect interviews, or heritage activities that require special staffing. Please see each Badge Booster listed for de- scriptions and preregistration requirements. Preregistration for interviews and guided walkabouts are required. Please register by May 12, 2018. Limited spots are available. Once the spots are taken, accommodations cannot be guaranteed. Preregistered individuals will be guaranteed the opportunity to participate in walkabouts, interviews, or badge boosters. On June 2, 2018, the remaining openings will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. In order to ensure that we provide the necessary staff- ing, please make sure you register all scouts and adults for your program. With the exception of the Behind the Scenes at Playhouse Square Tour which meets in Key- Bank State Theatre lobby all registered participants meet inside the Armory. Interviewees and afternoon walkabouts must sign-in at the Heritage Welcome Table 15-minutes prior to each scheduled activity. If you do not sign-in, your spot may be awarded to scouts on the waiting list. Scouts should dress for the weather. Scouts must be accompanied by a supervising adult, observe traffic safety regulations, Leave No Trace Principles, and maintain the buddy system. Is there a Cost? Admission to the Armory is free. Badge Boosting activities are free. Parking lots in and around the area charge various fees. Please be aware, Cleveland Grays Armory Cornerstone is not a drop-off program. Cor- nerstone is a one-day, family-friendly event that is open to the public.
