Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees Monday, November 13, 2017 A meeting of the Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) Board of Trustees was called to order at 4:13 pm at the Cleveland History Center, 10825 East Blvd., Cleveland, Ohio 44106. The roll call showed that Trustees Avsec, Garth, Gibbons, Miller and Sherman were present. It was determined that there was a quorum. Also in attendance were: CAC staff: Karen Gahl-Mills, executive director; Jill Paulsen, deputy director; Roshi Ahmadian; Meg Harris; Dan McLaughlin; India Pierre-Ingram; and Jake Sinatra. 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Trustee Gibbons moved to approve the minutes from the September 11 and October 16, 2017 Board meetings. Trustee Sherman stated that prior to seconding the approval she had some updates to the minutes which she would like to see reflected therein. Regarding the September 11 meeting, Trustee Sherman had stated that she would like CAC to request that the Musical Arts Association look into acquiring weather insurance for the concert in downtown Cleveland for which CAC will provide a $150,000 grant. Regarding the October 16 minutes, she asked that the minutes reflect her question to CAC staff regarding whether or not all GOS organizations had been talked to in advance of the reduced allocation to the GOS. The record should also show that this question had been answered in the affirmative. Motion by Trustee Gibbons, seconded by Trustee Sherman, to approve the minutes, as amended, from the September 11, 2017 and October 16, 2017 Board meetings. Discussion: None. Vote: all ayes. The motion carried. -

Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization 2018 Annual Report In 2018 Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization (DSCDO) continued its work as a community development leader and innovator. In July, DSCDO and Cudell Community Involvement Improvement, Inc. launched a Strategic Alliance. Guided by a Shared Services Agreement, In 2018, DSCDO implemented new approaches to community the Alliance paves the way for the two organizations to share resources, streamlining organizing. The “Neighboring Fund,” made possible thanks to Cleveland Neighborhood Progress and DSCDO membership dues, staffing and reducing overhead. With Detroit Shoreway, Cudell and Metro West combined, funded 10 grassroots projects throughout the year - from potlucks to DSCDO now serves over 54,000 Cleveland residents across six neighborhoods. While there are parts of the City that have suffered more disinvestment than others, the HUD foreclosure and abandonment risk scores show that when compared to Cuyahoga County (the most populous county in the 5 county Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor MSA) as a whole, the entire City of Cleveland has significant foreclosure and abandonment risk. Clevelands NSP application identifies three approaches to the different conditions created by the foreclosure and sub-prime problem in the City. The City has aggregated census tract data into 36 Statistical Planning Areas (SPAs) for the purpose of analyzing neighborhood conditions. The section below lists the SPA neighborhoods appropriate for each approach. ADGE OOSTERS And Meritorious Moments BOur 125th building anniversary, B known as the Cornerstone Celebration, is growing and we would like to assist scouts with a series of Badge Boosting (achievement) activities. Please see the attached list of badge opportunities (Tigers through to Eagle) for more information. Several activities require preregistration. Interviews— June 2, 2018, is the celebration of the historical Richardsonian Romanesque Revival Style Armory’s 125-year anniversary. The Cleveland Grays will recognize this event with special exhibits, armory tours, and walkabout excursions of Cleveland’s historic sites. Veterans and active military from all branches will be on-hand to answer questions and accept interviews with preregistered scouts. Architects from the American Institute of Architects will also be on-hand to answer questions and accept interviews with preregistration. Walkabouts— This day celebrates the 125-year anniversary of the 1893 placement of the Cornerstone laying at the foundation of the landmark Cleveland Grays Armory. In recognition of this historic occasion, scouts may register for one of two historic walkabouts. These will include the Armory, Erie Street Cemetery, the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, and various historic sites or Cleveland architecture as well as a few very special surprises. One Behind the Scenes at Playhouse Square Tour is also available with preregistration. Spaces are limited to 25 per tour. Early Registration is highly recommended. Heritage Activities—During the Cornerstone Celebration, a patriotic participation area will contain stations for wrapping care packages, writing deployed soldiers, giving thanks to past and present military, and learning more about early military heritage. Donations for Troops and Veterans— We are partnering with the USO and the Ohio National Guard to “Fill the Hummer” with care package items for deployed soldiers (please see page 3 for a list of the most needed items). -

The roll call showed that Trustees Matt Charboneau, Joe Gibbons and Charna Sherman were present. It was determined that there was a quorum. Also in attendance were: CAC staff: Karen Gahl-Mills, executive director; Jill Paulsen, deputy director; Roshi Ahmadian; Meg Harris; Stacey Hoffman; Jake Sinatra and Nicole Thomas; and guest Nancy Osgood.
