The Pen is Mightier: Right-hander Jonathan Arias won for the third time last night at Peoria with 3.0 innings of scoreless ball including six strikeouts…the catcher- turned is 3-0 with two saves and a 2.16 ERA (4 ER in 16.2 IP) since the start of June. Right-hander Tyler Burgoon went 2.0 IP to earn his team-leading fifth win on Friday night at Quad Cities…despite allowing his fifth of 16 inherited runners to score and suffering his fifth blown save as a result, Burgoon still extended his own scoreless streak to 10.2 IP and lowered his ERA to a bullpen-best 1.75. Seattle’s 10 th round pick in 2010 out of the University of Michigan, Burgoon is 3-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA (0 ER in 10.2 IP) over his last five outings. Lefty Nate Reed has yielded just one ER over his last six games (10.1 IP), lowering his ERA from 4.60 to 3.04.

Romero is Rolling: Stefen Romero nearly hit for the cycle Saturday night at Quad Cities (Clinton’s last cycle still belongs to Josh Spoerl on 7/19/00 at Kane County), falling a triple shy as he went 3-for-4 with a double, two-run HR and three RBI…he belted his second homer of the series in the fourth inning, his sixth of the season and his first career opposite-field blast (to right-center)…Romero drove in seven of Clinton’s 16 runs on the series. After hitting .224 over his first two months of the season, Romero is hitting .370 (20-for-54) since the start of June , including four doubles, three HR (all three coming against QC including one at home on 6/18 off RHP Seth Blair) and 13 RBI in 15 games. Seattle’s 12 th round pick out of Oregon State in 2010, Romero is hitting .260 with six HR and 27 RBI this season.
