Munis Entomology & Zoology, 7 (2): 732-741] ABSTRACT: On the basis of lepidopterous larvae a total of 96 species on Quercus dalechampii and 58 species on Q. cerris were recorded in 10 study plots of Malé Karpaty and Trnavská pahorkatina hills. The families Geometridae, Noctuidae and Tortricidae encompassed the highest number of found species. The most recorded species belonged to the trophic group of generalists. On the basis of total abundance of lepidopterous larvae found on Q. dalechampii from all the study plots the most abundant species was evidently Operophtera brumata. The most abundant species on Q. cerris was Cyclophora ruficiliaria. Based on estimated oak leaf area consumed by a larva it is shown that Lymantria dispar was the most important leaf-chewing species of both Q. dalechampii and Q. cerris. KEY WORDS: Slovakia, Quercus dalechampii, Q. cerris, the most important species. About 300 Lepidoptera species are known to damage the assimilation tissue of oaks in Central Europe (Patočka, 1954, 1980; Patočka et al.1999; Reiprich, 2001). Lepidoptera larvae are shown to be the most important group of oak defoliators (Patočka et al., 1962, 1999). -

E-15002 A Coruña (ESPAÑA). e-mail: [email protected] Resumen: Se elabora un listado comentado y puesto al día de los Drepanidae (Lepidoptera) presentes en O Courel (Lugo, Galicia, España, N.O. Península Ibérica), recopilando los datos bibliográficos existentes (sólo para dos especies) a los que se añaden otros nuevos como resultado del trabajo de campo del autor alcanzando un total de 13 especies. Entre los nuevos registros aportados se incluyen tres primeras citas para la provincia de Lugo: Drepana curvatula (Borkhausen, 1790), Watsonalla binaria (Hufnagel, 1767) y Cimatophorina diluta ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775). Incluimos también nuevas citas de Drepanidae para otras localidades del resto del territorio gallego, entre las que aportamos las primeras de Falcaria lacertinaria (Linnaeus, 1758) para las provincias de Ourense y Pontevedra. Abstract: Lepidoptera from O Courel (Lugo, Galicia, Spain, NW Iberian Peninsula) VII: Drepanidae (Lepidoptera). An updated and annotated list of the Drepanidae (Lepidoptera) know to occur in O Courel (Lugo, Galicia, Spain, NW Iberian Peninsula) is made, compiling the existing bibliographic records (only for two species) and reaching up to 13 species after adding new ones as a result of field work undertaken by the author. Amongst the new data the first records of Drepana curvatula (Borkhausen, 1790), Watsonalla binaria (Hufnagel, 1767) and Cimatophorina diluta ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) for the province of Lugo are reported. -

INTRODUCTION Early tortricid workers such as HAWORTH (1811), HERRICH-SCHHÄFFER (1856), and others pre- sented the first terminology for forewing pattern elements in their descriptions of new species. Nearly a century later, SÜFFERT (1929) provided a more eclectic discussion of pattern elements for Lepidoptera in general. In recent decades, the common and repeated use of specific terms in de- scriptions and illustrations by FALKOVITSH (1966), DANILEVSKY and KUZNETZOV (1968), and oth- ers reinforced these terms in Tortricidae. BRADLEY et al. (1973) summarized and commented on all the English terms used to describe forewing pattern elements. DANILEVSKY and KUZNETZOV (1968) and KUZNETZOV (1978) analyzed tortricid pattern elements, primarily Olethreutinae, dem- onstrating the taxonomic significance of the costal strigulae in that subfamily. For practical pur- poses they numbered the strigulae from the forewing apex to the base, where the strigulae often become indistinct. KUZNETZOV (1978) named the following forewing elements in Tortricinae: ba- sal fascia, subterminal fascia, outer fascia (comprised of subapical blotch and outer blotch), apical spot, and marginal line situated in the marginal fascia (a component of the ground colour). -

McGuire1 and Jan Dvorak1* Abstract Background: Mutations often accompany DNA replication. Since there may be fewer cell cycles per year in the germlines of long-lived than short-lived angiosperms, the genomes of long-lived angiosperms may be diverging more slowly than those of short-lived angiosperms. Here we test this hypothesis. Results: We first constructed a genetic map for walnut, a woody perennial. All linkage groups were short, and recombination rates were greatly reduced in the centromeric regions. We then used the genetic map to construct a walnut bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) clone-based physical map, which contained 15,203 exonic BAC-end sequences, and quantified with it synteny between the walnut genome and genomes of three long-lived woody perennials, Vitis vinifera, Populus trichocarpa,andMalus domestica, and three short-lived herbs, Cucumis sativus, Medicago truncatula, and Fragaria vesca. Each measure of synteny we used showed that the genomes of woody perennials were less diverged from the walnut genome than those of herbs. We also estimated the nucleotide substitution rate at silent codon positions in the walnut lineage. It was one-fifth and one-sixth of published nucleotide substitution rates in the Medicago and Arabidopsis lineages, respectively. We uncovered a whole-genome duplication in the walnut lineage, dated it to the neighborhood of the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary, and allocated the 16 walnut chromosomes into eight homoeologous pairs. -

Der Ort und der Landkeis Şile sind Teil der Provinz Istanbul. Einige weitere Fangergeb- nisse des Autors in anderen Teilen der Provinz Istanbul sind ebenfalls aufgeführt. Betrachtet wurden Arten der Familien Notodontidae, Nolidae, Arctiidae, Lymantriidae, Erebidae, Noctuidae, Sphingidae, Lasiocam- pidae, Saturniidae, Drepanidae und Thyatiridae. Nicht berücksichtigt wurden Microlepidoptera und Geometridae. Die Artenliste wurde, wo nötig oder sinnvoll, mit einigen zusätzlichen Angaben angereichert, die allgemeine Verbreitung, ähnliche Arten oder das Vorkommen in Şile und anderen Teilen der Provinz Istanbul kommentieren. Für jede Art wird mit römischen Ziffern angegeben, in welchem Monat die Fänge erfolgt sind. Hierbei bedeutet (b) Anfang, (m) Mitte und (e) Ende des Monats. Die Zahl der gefangenen Spezimens wurde als grober Schätzwert für die tatsächliche Häufigkeit verwandt und die Arten dement- sprechend in vier Kategorien eingeteilt: vc – sehr häufig c – häufig s - vereinzelt r – selten Es wird deutlich, dass die Fauna Istanbuls derjenigen Rumäniens und mehr noch derjenigen Bulgariens ähnelt, beides Länder, die ebenfalls am Schwarzen Meer liegen. Da Istanbul aber auch mediterranen Einflüssen unterliegt, ist eine stärkere Vertretung des mediterranen Faunenelementes zu beobachten. Nur eine der festgestellten Arten wurde bisher in Bulgarien noch nicht gefunden, für Rumänien sind es einige mehr. -

Prior © 2020 1 Sun Rising NBG Moth Surveys 2020 Introduction After the atrocious weather experienced going back to the last couple of months of 2019 it seems miraculous that six visits were made to Sun Rising during 2020. Throw in a frustrating global virus and it is even more so! Most were arranged at very short notice to take advantage of whatever decent weather was on offer. There were a couple of breezy nights, but they were mild enough to make them worthwhile and all were productive with additions of new species to further lengthen the site list. Visit 1 – 20th May, 2020 The weather finally relented towards the end of May and after all that had gone on earlier in the year it was decided that Martin Kennard and I should use this as a “test” night to see if we could carry on moth recording safely. Neither of us thought there should be any problem with that as by the very nature of moth recording we are widely separated.
