The Erica heather colored the hills in a beautiful purple tint and slowly the leaves in the trees are changing their colors. Fortunately, the sun is still shining regularly, which gives you beautiful views. olives After the busy summer period with a lot of work and little rest, many Cretans still have work to do: the olives are being harvest. At the end of October, the first farmers started the hard work and at the end of February the last olives will be pressed. The olive oil factory in Kournas is not open every day, but they have started! raki The "Kazani", the raki distillery, is also in full operation. From 1 October until the end of November, the new stock of Tsikoudia (raki) will be replenished. Autumn on Crete Even in Crete the temperatures are lowering down and even though the sun shines, it is no summer anymore. And just like everywhere in Europe, the cold and flu virus is spreading around her, so it's time for the healthy Malotira, the Cretan mountain tea. As soon as the first signs of colds or flu appear, you get the best advice from everyone: drink a cup of mountaintea with honey and lemon and your complaints will soon be gone. More information about this particular herbal tea you can read here. Making raki in the Kazani In Kournas, farmer Stelios has a license to distill Tsikoudia and, together with his family, he is working here 6 days a week, from early morning until late evening. Stelios does not only distill his own Tsikoudia but also makes it for others who do not have a license. For example, for the Piperaki family, the owners of the village kafenion in Kournas. At several evenings, tourists from around the area could visit the Kazani to see how the traditional Tsikoudia is being distilled. And of course the fresh beverage must be tasted. And on beautiful sunny days it's time to relax, or time for a stroll or a discovery trip.
