Dwy Hen Ffrind Yn Mynd Ar Daith Fythgofiadwy 04.03.2021 Cathryn Ings Cyswllt Contact Ffôn Phone 03305 880450 Erthygl i’r Wasg Press Release Dwy hen ffrind yn mynd ar daith fythgofiadwy Mae’r gyfres newydd o Iaith ar Daith yn parhau gyda’r actores amryddawn Rakie Ayola yn mynd ar daith gyda’i ffrind bore oes sydd hefyd yn actores uchel ei pharch sef Eiry Thomas. Mae Rakie yn adnabyddus am ei gwaith actio ar y teledu (Holby City) a’r llwyfan lle mae hi wedi ennill parch am ei pherfformiad fel Hermione Granger yn Harry Potter and the Cursed Child a gwobr am ei pherfformiad yn On Bear Ridge gyda Rhys Ifans. Er bod Rakie bellach yn byw yn Llundain, mae hi’n falch iawn o’i Chymreictod ac yn awyddus iawn i ddysgu Cymraeg. Meddai Rakie: “Dwi’n byw yn agos iawn i fan cychwyn Marathon Llundain. Dwi i wedi prynu baner Gymraeg - un mawr - ac mae pob un sy’n rhedeg heibio yn nabod y ddraig goch ac yn ymateb iddi - a dwi’n dwli ar hyn. Mae rhai yn gweiddi ‘Cymru am byth’! - a dwi’n gweiddi nôl! Nawr dwi eisiau dysgu mwy o Gymraeg.” A phwy gwell i’w helpu na’i hen ffrind Eiry Thomas? Fe wnaeth y ddwy gyfarfod pan oeddent yn eu harddegau wrth iddynt ymuno â theatr ieuenctid yn Neuadd Llanofer yng Nghaerdydd ac maen nhw wedi bod yn ffrindiau mawr ers hynny. Meddai Eiry: “Felly, nid yn unig mae hyn yn mynd i fod yn daith mas i’r wlad, ond hefyd taith yn ôl i’r gorffennol.” Mae antur Iaith ar Daith Rakie ac Eiry yn dechrau yng Nghaerdydd ac yn mynd a nhw i berfeddion Sir Gâr, y Bannau Brycheiniog, Cymoedd y De ac wedyn yn ôl i Gaerdydd - ac mae sawl her a sypreis ar hyd y ffordd. Yn ogystal â rhannu hanes, maen nhw hefyd yn rhannu pen-blwydd, felly pa ffordd well i ddechrau eu taith nag ymweliad i gaffi’r gogyddes Lisa Fearn lle mae’r ddwy yn rhoi cynnig ar addurno cacen pen-blwydd. Yna cawn weld y disgybl yn troi yn athro wrth i’r ddwy ymweld â chanolfan ddringo ‘Summit’ yn Nhrelewis. Mae Rakie a’i theulu wrth eu boddau yn dringo ac mae hyn yn amlwg wrth i Rakie ddringo un o’r waliau mwyaf heriol yn y ganolfan - dyw Eiry ddim yr un mor awyddus! Ar ddiwrnod olaf ei thaith mae Rakie yn wynebu ei thasg fwyaf heriol yn stiwdios Cyw ym Mae Caerdydd ac yn cwrdd â wyneb cyfarwydd arall o’i phlentyndod yng Nghaerdydd. Mae hyn i gyd a llawer mwy i’w ddarganfod ar Iaith ar Daith gyda Rakie Ayola ac Eiry Thomas ar nos Sul, 14 Mawrth ar S4C. Gallwch ddal i fyny gyda thaith Steve Backshall a Iolo Williams ar S4C Clic. Rakie is well-known for her work on television (Holby City) and the stage where she has won praise for her performance as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and a best actress prize for her performance in On Bear Ridge with Rhys Ifans. Although Rakie now lives in London, she is proud of being Welsh and very keen to learn the language. Rakie said: “I live very close to the start of the London Marathon. I have bought a Welsh flag – a big one – and everybody who runs past recognises the Welsh Dragon and reacts to it – and I love this. Some shout ‘Cymru am byth’ – and I shout it back. Now I want to learn more Welsh.” And who better to help her than her old friend Eiry Thomas? The two met when they were in their teens when they both joined a youth theatre group at Llanover Hall in Cardiff and they have been good friends since then. Eiry said: “So not only are we going on a trip across the country – we will also be going on a trip back in time.” Rakie and Eiry’s Iaith ar Daith adventure begins in Cardiff and they travel to the heart of Carmarthenshire, the Brecon Beacons, the South Wales Valleys and back to Cardiff – and there are several surprises and challenges along the way. As well as sharing a past, the two also share the same birthday – so what better way to begin their tour than a visit to cook Lisa Fearn’s café where the two have a go at decorating a birthday cake. We see the student turn teacher as the two visit the Summit Climbing Centre in Trelewis. Rakie and her family love climbing and this is obvious as Rakie climbs one of the most challenging walls at the centre – Eiry isn’t quite as keen! On the last day of their trip, Rakie faces her most challenging task in the Cyw studios in Cardiff Bay and goes on to meet a familiar face from her childhood in Cardiff. All this and there’s lots more to discover in Iaith ar Daith with Rakie Ayola and Eiry Thomas on Sunday, 14 March on S4C. • Centre Stage the Pipeline of Bame Talent
CENTRE STAGE THE PIPELINE OF BAME TALENT AndrewAndrew Lloyd Lloyd Webber Webber FoundationFoundation INTRODUCTION— hen I produced Bombay Dreams over a decade ago and was privileged Wto introduce the marvellous music of A R Rahman to a West End audience, one of our greatest difficulties was finding enough Asian actors. BAME diversity in the performing arts has once again been high on the agenda this year, from the runaway success of Hamilton on Broadway to the latest announcement from Arts Council England of £4.6 million to boost diversity. Very often the discussion is focussed on increasing the representation of diverse ethnicities on stage and this is crucially important. However, I’ve been acutely aware that one of the biggest issues is the lack of trained diverse talent coming through. Casting directors and theatre producers alike often complain that they’d like to cast more Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic performers but that they don’t get enough turning up to audition. Inspired by some of the success stories coming out of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation’s scholarship programme – such as Emmanuel Kojo who is interviewed in these pages – the Foundation decided to commission this " I PASSIONATELY research. The aim was to come up with some positive recommendations that BELIEVE THAT can be adopted by people involved at every stage of the talent pipeline from THE STAGE NEEDS school to stage. TO REFLECT THE DIVERSITY OF THE UK I passionately believe that the stage needs to reflect the diversity of the POPULATION OR IT UK population or it risks becoming side-lined.

  • Winter Highlights 2004
DRAMA WINTER HIGHLIGHTS 2004 ENGLAND EXPECTS Steven Mackintosh stars in a hard-hitting drama about a man who is drawn back to his far right past as his life spirals out of control. Mackintosh plays Ray, a responsible family man, fiercely protective of his daughter, Nikki. But he is also a control freak and, when things start to go wrong – first at work and then at home – he begins to lose his grip on reality. As his behaviour becomes increasingly erratic and he looks for someone other than himself to blame, he turns towards people from his past – people who are prepared to exploit him for their own ends. England Expects is produced by award-winning programme-maker Ruth Caleb. Her BBC ONE credits include Dominic Savage's Out Of Control, which won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Antonia Bird's Care, which won the Prix Italia for Best Drama. IN DENIAL OF MURDER Stephen Tompkinson plays campaigning local journalist Don Hale in a factually based drama which explores the controversial case of Stephen Downing and the murder in 1973 of Wendy Sewell (played by Caroline Catz) in Bakewell cemetery in the Peak District. Don Hale’s determination to prove Downing’s innocence captured the imagination of the press and public alike. Based on extensive research and written by Neil McKay, In Denial Of Murder tells the moving and tragic story behind the headlines, combining the story of Hale’s campaign with an account of the life of the murder victim.
