1. INTRODUCTION The February Semester has come to an end today 26th May 2019. It is my pleasure that I dispatch this circular to all students, sponsors, and other stakeholders of this University regarding the academic, financial and co-curricular activities. PROMOTIONS AND INSTALLATION Andrew Peters Yiga was promoted was installed as full Professor of Art and Design Education. He delivered his Inaugural Lecture on 26th April, 2019. He is the Academic Registrar of Nkumba University.. 3. MAY INTAKE 2019 The University introduced the May Intake which commenced in May 2017 with Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at Main Campus and Campus. The purpose of the additional intake is for the convenience of those interested to enrol for University Studies at that time of the calendar year. The other study arrangements / sessions, are DAY, EVENING, WEEKEND and DISTANCE LEARNING. These were also designed for the convenience of the students.

7. REGISTRATION AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER

All students are required to pay tuition and register within the first two weeks of the semester in their respective Schools. Register every course-unit, missed paper(s) and retakes. This should be done irrespective of whether one has fully paid up or not. Students, who will not abide by this regulation, will find it hard to do examinations.

8. FEES FOR FEBRUARY 2019 SEMESTER

(a) Fees for all continuing students remain the same. (b) Fees for continuing PhD and continuing Distance Learning students remain unchanged.

9. TUITION PAYMENT PROCEDURE AND OTHER RELATED FEES

All students are advised to pay their tuition and other fees, in a more convenient way by following simple steps to generate your payment invoice before proceeding to pay fees in the bank:

Page 4 of 11 a) Use the Bank Reference Number appearing on the right hand side of your admission letter to pay the Initial Registration Fee (as sign of acceptance of admission). b) Log on to the students Portal using the following link:https//:enkumba.nkumbauniversity.ac.ug. This can be done from anywhere within . c) The System will give you an access code and temporary password. Sign into your Portal using the access code and temporary password. The System will prompt you to change the temporary password to a desired password of at least six characters. d) Then generate a Payment Advise Slip by selecting the Year and Semester being paid for, and amount you intend to pay. DO NOT FORGET TO PAY BANK CHARGES (which is excluded from your invoice). e) Students can login in anytime, to view their payment history among other things. f) You can get assistance from both the University (NUICTS and ACADEMIC REGISTRAR STAFF) and the Banks. If they cannot mobilize all the fees at once, they can also follow this arrangement of payment: i. Pay 40% of the fees in the first month of the semester; failure to pay 40% in the first month of the semester will lead to a surcharge of Ugx 50,000/=. ii. Pay 40% in the second month of the semester; iii. Pay the remaining 20% before sitting for examinations.

Please note: No student will be allowed to sit for End of Semester Examinations with tuition balance.

h) All First Year students are supposed to be Residents.

Nkumba University is currently receiving applications for admission to both Kampala and Main campuses for the August 2019 semester for all programmes. The University offers courses on Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters, and PhD by research. “O” level leavers can also be admitted to Certificate programmes. So inform all friends, relatives and other interested people to join the programmes. Application forms can be accessed on Nkumba University website: www.nkumbauniversity.ac.ug or the Front Desk at Nkumba University Kampala Campus or Academic Registrar’s office at Main Campus upon payment of UGX 50,000/=. For payment of both Application form and Admission letter; you get the bank code by accessing the zeepay.nkumbauniversity.ac.ug to get the bank payment reference code. 11. PhD PROGRAMME

Nkumba University runs PhD programmes by research. The programme takes a minimum duration of three years. In the first year, the candidates are equipped with advanced research skills. Admission to the PhD for August Intake 2019 is ongoing.

12. STUDENTS’ LOAN SCHEME OFFERED BY HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS FINANCING BOARD (HESFB)

The Higher Education Students Financing Board is a government department through which government manages the students’ Loan Scheme. So, students who are pursuing studies in science related programmes Computer Science, Public Health, Science Education, and Environmental Science may apply for the student loan. The forms for 2019/2020 are out and can be got from the website indicated below. Interested students can contact the Higher Education Students Financing Board on website: www.hesfb.go.ug, or contact Mr. Patrick Mulindwa the Deputy Academic Registrar, Nkumba University, on +256772490310. Modalities of the Loan Scheme The loan scheme is intended for students who are admitted to University's academic programme but cannot afford higher education fees. a) 20th Commencement Lecture

This year the two functions; Commencement Lecture and Graduation will be held in 26th October 2019 and in the same place at Nkumba University Sports Ground.

ACTIVITIES DURING THE FEBRUARY 2019 SEMESTER

a) Nkumba Day June 2018, 2019 will be 25 years since Nkumba University Started in 1994. While the Silver Jubilee Celebrations are scheduled for September 2019, a series of activities leading up to the D-Day have been on going to highlight the University Academic and Professional contributions to the welfare of Society. For instance the University organized the Open Day on 6th April, 2019 to showcase the academic programmes to the public, the Women’s’ Day that the University Celebrated on March 22nd 2019 also highlighted the Institution’s support to enhance women’s participation in development of society. b) Alumni Special General Meeting The elected Nkumba University Alumni Executive held their Annual General Meeting on 27th April 2019 where the Alumni Constitutions was promulgated and a five year Strategic Plan was passed. Key activities planned include membership mobilization, construction of an income generating Club House and contribution towards the Institute of Nursing. c) National Council for Higher Education and PEWOSA Exhibitions

Nkumba University participated in the Uganda annual Higher Education Exhibition from Thursday 21st March,2019 to Saturday 23rd March 2019. The Theme for the Exhibition was; Main Streaming information and communication Technology: the exploitation of Social Media for Higher Education Delivery and Management. Over one thousand (1000) visitors passed by the Nkumba University stalls. Nkumba University also participated in the CBS POWESA Exhibition held from Tuesday 16th April 2019 to Tuesday 23rd April 2019. The Theme for the Exhibition was “ Home Grown Solutions to poverty”. Many prominent leaders leaders, students and members of society visited the Nkumba university stall.

Page 7 of 11 d) Nkumba University Partnership with Opportunity Bank/ Endless

Nkumba University partnered with opportunity Bank and Endless to provide Laptops to both Students and Staff on Either Cash basis or Loan repayment Method. This is geared towards enhancing ICT use in the teaching and learning and delivery of Services at the University.

Parents and students are encouraged to utilize this opportunity available at the university.

e) Security Students are warned that you should not trust or be in company of people you do not know however friendly they can be. Do not accept lifts from people you do not know. Follow the highway road code when crossing. Dress decently to avoid any temptations that may come. Inform a friend or two of your whereabouts this would help you if you fall in trouble. If you have any suspicions, please report the incident to the nearest authority. It is advisable to have the Dean of Students’ telephone number or the police. To reinforce security on Main Campus, the University has put a perimeter wall around the main campus and visitors on foot and in vehicles have to check in and are given visitors’ cards which they surrender when they get out of campus.

f) Sports and Games Nkumba University participated in sports and games activities as indicated below. (i) Nkumba University Volleyball Team B was invited to Italy to participate in the International Youth Volleyball Championship between Sunday 17th February 2019 and Sunday 25th February 2019. The Team travelled on Sunday 7th February 2019 and returned on Sunday 24th February 2019. The Team played six (6) matches, won four (4) matches and lost two (2) matches. (ii) The Team travelled to Cairo on Friday 15th March 2019 and started playing on Tuesday 19th March 2019. Seventeen (17) Teams registered for the competition. Nkumba finished in the 16th Position. (iii) Nkumba University Volleyball (Men) travelled to Mbarara on Friday 29th March 2019 to participate in the Mbarara Open Volleyball Championship held on Saturday 30th March 2019 and Sunday 31st March 2019. The Men’s Team reached semi finals. (iv) Nkumba University Basketball Teams (men and women) participated in the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Open Basketball Tournament held at the Main Campus on Saturday 30th March 2019 and Sunday 31st March 2019. Both teams went as far as Quarter Finals. (v) The East African Clubs Netball Championship was held in Zanzibar between Friday 22nd March 2019 and Saturday 30th March 2019. The following Nkumba University Netball Players were in Zanzibar for the Championship;

National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Team won the East African Clubs Netball Championship after beating Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Team with 68 goals to 64 goals. Nkumba University is proud of the Netballers who keep the University flag flying high. In the two teams that travelled to Zanzibar were the following Alumni:

 Meeme Ruth BBA  Namuwaya Muhayimina BFTD (vi) Nkumba University was represented by two teams (Men and women) at the Kampala International University (KIU) Open Volleyball Tournament held between Saturday 13th April 2019 and Sunday 14th April 2019 in Kansanga. At the end of the Championship, Nkumba University (Women) obtained Gold medals and a trophy after beating 3 sets to 0. The Men’s Team lost at the finals, it was beaten by Sports S 3 sets to 0.

We are very proud of our Sportsmen and Women and we congratulate them upon giving glory to our University.

Nkumba University is grateful to International School Uganda (1SU) at for continuing to support the training of our Volleyball Team (Women) every Tuesday and Thursday. This offer has enabled the female players to play professionally on international court and Nkumba University is very grateful for this offer.

14. COUNSELLING SERVICES AT THE UNIVERSITY

Munnange Counseling Centre (MCC) appreciates the students and all our clients who came to access our counseling services in this semester. At the Centre, we had quite a number of activities starting with the most important of celebrating 8 years of existence in Nkumba University since our inception in April 2011, we had two Theme sessions (a day with the students to talk and discuss about different issues in a group), and doing a lot of publicity and sensitization about our services. We also write monthly articles which we pin around the University for Students to read and be inspired. This semester, students visiting the Counseling Centre increased and we hope for more to come. We appreciate all our staff, student volunteers, interns from Belgium and well- wishers who work tirelessly to help make all our activities successful. We look forward to serving you again, our offices remain open throughout the holidays, all our services are free, our Counselors are professional and we believe we can walk with you the journey of your life!

17. DISTRICT BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Nkumba University is offering study scholarships for five (5) students who have successfully been admitted for a degree programme from each district of Uganda. This opportunity is open for those who are joining the University for the first time.

18. Marketing Nkumba University

The University Management requests all the continuing students to participate in the marketing of Nkumba University by participating in the students’ recruitment initiative.

For each student brought; admitted and registered for next August 2019 Semester, a commission of UGX 20,000 (twenty thousand shillings) will be given to the student.

19. Nkumba University Mobile Money Line

All current and potential Students can now make payments on the newly acquired Nkumba University MTN Mobile Money line +256776855098 for small amounts of fees like Application Fees and Tuition Fees in the circumstances when the Bank /University payment system is off /down.
