This is the first time a major AIS conference is being hosted in South America, and we expect the rigorous program, your engagement, and the historic and beautiful city of Lima will collectively make this an unforgettable experience – bienvenidos!! Cynthia Beath The conference theme, “Sustainable IT Collaboration Around the Globe,” U. Texas at Austin Honorary reflects the pressing issue of the times – a need to build and leverage Conference Chair international partnerships. The 43 countries represented by the attendees provides all of us ample opportunity to initiate and cultivate our global networks. The conference theme will be highlighted by our keynote speaker, Bruno Di Leo in his talk, “Welcome to the Decade of Smart” about digital awareness around the world. It will be further elaborated on in the AIS/LEO session by Jerry Luftman Izak Benbasat and Lynne Markus, as they explore the role and importance of Stevens Institute of Technology global collaboration, and at the CIO symposium in the dialogue between leading Conference Chair academics and practitioners. We hope to see you at these featured sessions or at one of the engaging paper, poster, panel, or workshop presentations. There are two special social events for you to meet and greet old and new friends. The opening reception on Thursday evening at the Swissotel will help you get ready for the conference, while the social event on Saturday will feature Martin Santana Universidad ESAN music, dancing, and a cultural show to help you unwind and get into the Latin Conference Chair festive spirit as you sample the famous Peruvian cuisine and Pisco Sour! We also encourage you to explore this beautiful city with fellow AMCIS attendees. Just to suggest a few options–you can walk through the historic centre of Lima, visit the gold museum (Museo de Oro) or enjoy a relaxing evening at Huaca Pullana, a pre-Inca ceremonial site dedicated to the God Pachacamac– the possibilities are endless! Ajay Vinzé Arizona State University Conference Chair Reflecting back on our preparations for AMCIS 2010, it is impossible to adequately thank all the people who have contributed their time and effort to make this conference a successful event. As a group, we would like to thank our sponsors for their generous financial support. Special thanks also goes to Ana Maria Villanueva and Marisol Bolanos and the Universidad ESAN team for providing their tireless local support. The AIS support staff has once again helped to ensure that the technical, logistical, and procedural details were well managed - a special shout out to Lise Fitzpatrick, the keeper of the flame. We are indebted to Joyce Elam and Dorothy Leidner, our program chairs, who have organized an outstanding research lineup – many, many thanks! And finally, we thank our countless colleagues who proposed tracks and minitracks, submitted and reviewed papers, panels, workshops and tutorials, and who will serve as session chairs, discussants, panelists, and presenters at this conference. Most of all, we are grateful to every one of you for joining us in Lima. Have a wonderful conference, enjoy yourselves and welcome!!! Americas Conference on Information Systems • Lima, Peru Americas Conference on Information Systems • Lima, th 16 5 Welcome from the Program Chairs Over the years, AMCIS has been evolving into a major international conference, even as it retains its regional feel. Over half of all authors of papers to be presented in Lima this summer are from outside the Americas region. In total, 43 different nationalities are represented in the presentations. Roughly 48% of the authors of accepted papers come from the Americas region; 12% from the Australasia region and 40% from the European region. We thank all of you for traveling (in many cases quite long distances with indirect, multiple-stop routes) to attend AMCIS2010! From the Americas region, the papers hail from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, and the United States. The largest percentage of these come from the US (80%), followed by Brazil (7%) and Canada (6%). From the Australasia Region, there are papers from Australia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Korea, New Zealand, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates. Among these, the majority are from Australia (36%) followed by Hong Kong (16%). And from the European
