INTRODUCTION St. Teresa‟s college Ernakulum, , committed to the cause of Higher Learning of Women and their empowerment was founded by the Educational Agency of Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa, following the footsteps of its farsighted, visionary leader and Foundress, Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima in the year 1925. Accredited by the NAAC at the Five Star Level in1999 and Reaccredited with A level in 2006, the college has the privilege and the unique honour of “College with Potential for Excellence” status bestowed by the U.G.C in 2010. Today the Institution has cross - border and trans-border educational imperatives such as tie-ups with London Metropolitan University, U.K, Deakin University, Australia and East China Normal University, in Collaborative Research and Educational Programmes. The Faculty makes optimum use of the Information and Communication Technology [ICT] and the College has made a conscious effort to invest in the hardware and train the faculty suitably in a high level advancement in documentation and data processing. VISION St. Teresa‟s College, Ernakulam, envisions a life oriented education that empowers the students through a humanizing and liberating process, to be agents of transformation and developments at different levels of life. Enabled and empowered, they respond proactively to the concerns and conflicts inherent in today‟s reality, especially those of women and persons who are unable to exercise their freedom to be human, and work for the integrity of creation. The thrust is in the light of a „civilization of love’ – the kingdom of God, as envisaged and promoted by the Foundress, Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima.

MISSION We prepare the students:  To promote a College/Community/Society/Nation where spiritual, moral, and genuine human values are lived and witnessed to.  To contribute to the transformation of society through an openness to reality and living the challenges of being socially conscious and socially responsible.  To synergize women and those prevented from exercising their right to be human, through enlightening them regarding their basic human rights and helping them to achieve the same.

 To promote inter-cultural and inter-religious harmony and communion through promoting genuine dialogue, whereby we work together for the common good of the human family.  To facilitate leadership among the students enabling them to be genuinely other centered, proactively enthusiastic, and spiritually and socially motivated towards personal, group and social liberation.  To provide quality, integral education which is life, vocation and career oriented, we promote a climate for human and academic excellence with openness to learning, research and development of professional skills so that work towards the empowerment of persons and transformation of the society will be fostered.  To work towards the integrity of creation through being conscious of and alert to the state of devastation and destruction of creation and the serious perils the humankind is plunged into, we promote programmes / movements that foster inter-connectedness, kinship and eco-justice.  To recognize the advantage of using modern tools and technological innovations for teaching-learning and governance and its visible impact and motivating factor in empowering a large number of students, we promote programmes and workshops that make the students acquire the necessary skills and practice, and transferring it to others in the society.

Section A: Plan of action chalked in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement. At the beginning of the academic year, a meeting of the IQAC was held and a plan of action for the year was chalked out keeping in mind the following objectives:

 Special Coaching and Remedial classes for academically weak students  To give special coaching for students appearing for DELF examinations  Initiate Master level Research Programme for the students by French Government at Alliance Francaise

 To conduct seminars, workshops and awareness programmes in order to sensitize students about the global environmental problems  Strengthen the activities of Teresian Rural Outreach Programmes (TROP) Creating balanced personality in students

 To provide orientation programmes and value education classes to the students to improve their self-awareness, motivation and mental hygiene.  Conduct of AAPHERD Test and follow up procedures to improve health and physical fitness of the students, by the Physical Education Department  To set up a Diet Clinic in the campus Promoting the Use of Technology

 Purchase more licensed computer soft wares  Setting up of ICT enabled class rooms  Internet facility to be made available in all Departments and to establish networking between Science and Arts block.  Launching of a new website www.kalalayam.com (Govt. of Kerala)  General informatics training programmes for teachers and students Infrastructure augmentation  Refurbishment of the central library.  Renovation of Chemistry, Zoology, Physics and Botany Laboratories.  Purchase of more computers for all Depts.  Enhance learning facilities for the students, in keeping with the changed curriculum- addition of laboratory equipments and instruments to the science laboratories. 3 St.Teresa’s College, AQAR 2010-’11

 Complete Campus Automation Programme- all aspects of teaching and learning to be automated.  Online AQAR preparation to be initiated. Section B: Activities reflecting the Goals of the Institution:

The institution wishes to reflect its goals and objectives in all the curricular, co- curricular and extracurricular programmes offered. The academic programs which the institution offers are well in tune with the institution‟s goals and objectives. It makes a judiciary selection of curricular and co- curricular activities which are designed to foster the overall development of students and to fulfill the mission and vision of the college. All activities are focused on allowing the students to grasp, imbibe, nourish and disseminate the vision of the institution.

Focusing on these high ideals, the following activities were organized:

 The Counseling Cell‟s activities have been made effective by the addition of Smt. Shirley Tharakan – professional counsellor. The students and parents were given the opportunity to meet the counselor every Wednesday.  The activities of the various clubs and cells contributed to the holistic development of the personality of the students.  A seminar on Elimination of Violence against Women in Socio-Cultural and Legal Perspective focusing on uprooting of Domestic Violence was organized by the Women‟s Cell of the college in association with People‟s Council for Social Justice and Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA) on 22 September 2010.  An orientation and renewal programme was conducted for II and III years in mid- June and for I year students by the end of June.  A 2-day life guidance seminar was organized for the final year students on January 17 and 18, 2010.  The college continues to collaborate with NGO‟s – Nanma for TROP activities.  The blood donation camps, medical camps, AIDS awareness campaigns, street play to bring about awareness of AIDS and its prevention, Caring for the Elderly campaign, Anti-Tobacco campaign, Road Safety campaign are some of activities of NSS and NCC that educated students about their societal responsibilities and help them contribute significantly to the community.  The Department of Chemistry inaugurated the International Year of Chemistry celebrations on March 11, 2011. A seminar was organized on the same day.  The Dept. of Chemistry released Rasathantra the news letter of the department in February 2011.

 The Dept. of Zoology organized an International seminar on December 8, 2010 in connection with its Golden Jubilee celebrations.  The Dept. of Zoology organized a training programme for students of the department on the topic Aquarium Maintenance and Breeding of Ornamental Fishes in September 2010.  The science teachers of the college were successful in organizing and hosting the First Kerala Women’s Science Congress in association with Shakthi at the college from 10- 12 August 2010. The Congress brought together 100 women scientists.  The Dept. of Commerce released the first volume of its journal titled the Teresian Journal of Management Research this January.  The college initiated new activities and projects under TROP (Teresian Rural Outreach Programme). All departments contributed significantly to the same. The Dept. of Computer Science in collaboration with the NGO Nanma conducted classes for Std. VIII students of all Govt. schools in and around Ernakulam.  ICT as a thrust area - The software CLASS facilitates interaction and participation of all the stakeholders of the Education Community by making optimum use of its multifunctional resources.  A three-day training program on „General Informatics‟ was oraganised on 20-22 December 2010.  UGC Sponsored Seminar on „Exploring New Strategies in Social Science Research‟ on 16-18 February 2011, with one technical Session on Analysis of Data Using Software Packages- SPSS  National Workshop on „Econometrics‟ gave a special training Session on Limdep, STATA- Statistical Software Packages from March 1st to 6th, 2011.  Students are given training on accessing and using N-List [Digital Library]  The Dept. of Mathematics conducted a one-day workshop on PYTHON - Mathematical Software for visualizing Graphs  Seminars on JAVA, .NET, Distributed Computing, Hardware Assembling, Blogs and Forums, Animation, Employment and Employability by the Department of Computer Applications  Workshops and training organized annually for Communicative English students on making Documentaries, Editing, and Adobe software package to enhance employability.  Training programmes for using softwares such as MATLab, SPSS etc.  Financial aid continued to be offered to 4 children of AIDS-affected parents  Students visit orphanages, cancer wards of hospitals, government hospitals, shelter for the homeless etc. 5 St.Teresa’s College, AQAR 2010-’11

 National days of importance are observed- Republic Day, Independence Day, World AIDS Day, Alzheimer‟s Day, International Women‟s Day, Kerala Day, Girl Child Day, World Environment Day, World Food Day, Teacher‟s Day etc.  Nutrition and Diet related Awareness programmes are conducted by the Women‟s Study Center in Anganwadis and Rural areas.

No new programmes were initiated during the year.

2. New Academic Programmes initiated: Other than UG/PG:

In order to strive for quality enhancement, a few programmes other than UG and PG were initiated. PG Diploma programme in Counselling was started under the Continuing Education Center (CEC). In the Dept. of Botany, an UGC sponsored, add- on programme in Plant Resource Development and Management has been started, which is a job-oriented course. UGC sponsored NET coaching centres have been set up in the Depts. of Botany, Economics and Sociology.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction

During the course of the academic year several departments contributed substantially to innovation in curricular design. Methods and tools for the delivery of existing courses were improved and technology was used to impart courseware effectively.  Dr. Anu Gopinath of Dept. of Chemistry published a text book Chemistry Core -1 Methodology of Chemistry as a Discipline of Science (Theory) and Volumetric Analysis -1 practical (For semester 1 of CBCSS B.Sc Programme of M G University, Kottayam)- second edition.  Dr. Saritha Chandran A. published a textbook Volumetric Analysis for Semester I and II of the Complimentary Chemistry Course of CBCSS Programme of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam  The Dept of Zoology was instrumental in formulating the study materiasl for the III and IV semester CBCSS Zoology programme.  Peer group support extended to poor performers.  Training in the software SPSS given to the students so that the same can be used in project analysis. The students of the PG Diploma in Fashion Designing and Apparel Merchandising showcased their designer collection at the fashion show Kaleidoscope 2010 held on December 8, 2010.  The students of Communicative English underwent a 3-day workshop in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Pagemaker, InDesign softwares. They put this knowledge to practical use by creating 8 journals.

 A minimum of four internal examinations conducted every year  The grading system that was introduced by the CBCSS was followed for the internal examinations as well.  The Computer Applications department conducted online examinations for their students.  The Malpractice Prevention Committee was set up  The Malpractice Prevention Committee suggested following the seating arrangements of university examination for internal assessment tests, fixing a reasonable teacher-students ratio in each class to facilitate easy supervision during examinations and random checks by members of the Committee.

7. Initiative towards faculty development programmes

The faculty periodically attends orientation and refresher courses, national and international seminars conducted by various academic organizations which enable them to keep abreast of current information in their respective fields.

Teachers are encouraged to attend Seminars/Conferences/Workshops/Symposiums to update themselves. Teachers are also supported in their endeavour to pursue higher studies (the management gives them duty leave for 1-3 years under FIP of UGC). Short-term Programme

Essex University, U.K. Dr. Anu Gopinath, Department of Chemistry has been nominated for Commonwealth Fellowship to do Postdoctoral Research in Coral Reef in Essex University, U.K., under Professor Dr. David Smith. London Metropolitan University, U.K. Dr. Latha Nair R., department of English, former student of London Metropolitan University, collaborated and conducted two International Seminar/ Conference in 2009 and 2011 respectively Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia Dr. Latha Nair R collaborated with Deakin University, Australia -Organized a visit of Deakin Peer Team to St. Teresa‟s College. TROP Teresian Rural Outreach Programme (TROP) and other Activity Oriented Programmes is initiated with the aim to strengthen the National, societal commitment and communitisation of the students. It has taken care of the community and social orientation of the curriculum. The objective of TROP is holistic, academic growth and development of school children in socially and economically backward areas of the society. Teresian Rural Outreach Programme focuses mainly on schools and parents of the school children. A central theme was selected based on each department‟s subject, programmes were planned by the students under the guidance of the faculty, and are designed to meet the individual needs of community. For the students of the College it was a hand on experience in interacting with the community. The programmes were implemented and evaluated. For the TROP (Teresian Rural Outreach Programme) activities, Science departments selected St. Mary's school, Vallarpadam, Ernakulam and Arts departments selected Bhagavathivilasm School, Nayarambalam, Ernakulam and St. Francis U.P School Pizhala, Ernakulam as the site. TROP at Pizhala was formally inaugurated on 23rd June 2010 by Rev. Sr. Christabelle, Principal, St. Teresa`s College. Goal The main Goal of TROP is to bring about change in attitude, skill and knowledge and also capacity building of the students and the parents.

Unit, District Legal Authority and Nature Club in St. Teresa‟s College on June 4th 2010. Sree Kamal Pasha, District Judge was the chief guest for the function. The Volunteers planted saplings of Vaagaa. They also planted seeds in the vegetable garden of the science block

A signature Campaign was organized by the N.S.S volunteers with Help Age India, against the „Cruelty Towards Elders‟ on 15th June 2010. The volunteers also participated in a walk with posters and placards to sensitize the public about the needs of the Elderly.

On June 17th 2010 all the First year Degree students were given Orientation about N.S.S and its objectives. The N.S.S activities for this academic year were formally inaugurated by Sree Samuel Chelliah, Head and Youth Officer, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Government of India on 4th August 2011.

A Blood Donation Camp along with an awareness programme for donating Blood was organized jointly by N.S.S unit and Rotary Club Central on August 11th 2011, in the Science Block.

The N.S.S Day Was Celebrated on 24th September 2010. The education counselor C.S.S.T Rev. Sr. Tessa hoisted the flag and the Principal Rev. Sr. Christabelle inaugurated the function. The volunteers took the pledge and sang the anthem.

World AIDS Day was observed on December 1st, 2010. Worshipful Mayor of Kochi Sri. Toni Chamminy presided over the function. The RED RIBBON CLUB was inaugurated by Sri. Renjith Kumar, Co-ordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra. N.S.S volunteers staged a street play titled Manimuzhakkam in the college campus, St. Joseph‟s Teacher Training college, St. Mary‟s Secondary High school and Govt. Girls High School as a part of the AIDS Awareness Campaign. The Event was supported by the Field Publicity Department and Cochin South Rotary.

A legal Awareness class for Second Year Degree Students was organized with the support of District Legal authority on December 13th 2010.

A two-day Eye Camp was organized for the whole college on December 14th and 15th 2010 in collaboration with Optic Mannath.

National Youth Day was observed on 22nd January 2011 in collaboration with Department of Field Publicity, Cochin South Rotary and the N.S.S Unit of St. Teresa‟s College. A one-day workshop on Personality Development and Soft Skills were given to the N.S.S volunteers by Sri. Renjith Kumar, Co-ordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra.

On January 31st 2011, N.S.S volunteers participated in the human chain campaign for a tobacco-free Ernakulum district for which the NSS unit received an award from the honorable district collector on 17th February 2011.

On February 2nd, a protest Rally was organized to protest against the violence against Women and to condole the death of Soumya, a train rape victim.

Alzheimer‟s day was observed on March 4th, 2011. Fifty N.S.S. volunteers participated in a Memory Walk organized by the Alzheimer‟s society.

Centenary Year of the International Women‟s Day was celebrated on March 8th 2011 in collaboration with Women‟s Cell of St. Teresa‟s College and Cochin Central South Rotary. Women Achievers from different walks of life like Smt. Leela Menon, Smt. Rose Mary, Smt. Beena Kannan, Dr. Bhanumathi, Smt. Geethu Mohan Das and Dr. Beena I.A.S and Rev. Sr. Christabelle were honoured for their outstanding contributions to society.

A Health and Nutrition Survey titled “A study on the perceptions & practices of College Students in an Urban Area Relating To Women‟s Health issues‟‟ was conducted for the First Year and Second Year Students of St. Teresa‟s College in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, Amritha Institute Of Medical Sciences and Research Centre from 24th to 26th March 2011.

 Smt. Treasa Felitia attended the N.S.S. Orientation programme for Programme Officers at TOC Rajagiri, Kalamassery from June 22nd to July 1st 2010.  Roopa Angelina, Malu Maxon, Meera Nair ( II D.C. Literature) and Rajalekshmi S. (II D.C Maths) attended three-day training programme imparted to Peer Educators held from 29th July to 1st August 2010 at Hosanna Mount, Pala. It was organized by NSS, Kerala States Aids Control Society and HLFPPT.  On 30th July 2010, 10 N.S.S Volunteers attended a One-Day Seminar on the concept of Panchayathi Raj and Human rights at the Renaissance, Kochi. Elsa Philip (III D.C. Com. English) and Rajalekshmi S. (II D.C. Maths) attended the Youth Conference on Developing National Youth policy organized by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, Sree Perumputhur, Chennai, on 9th and 10th August 2010.  The N.S.S Volunteer Secretaries Uma Murali, Roopa Angelina and Rajalekshmi G. attended the secretary training programme from 8th to 10th October 2010 at M.G. University.  On Dec 8th 2010, 8 N.S.S. volunteers participated in the intercollegiate youth festival at Newman‟s College, Thodupuzha. Kumari Rajalakshmi G. secured second prize for light music.  A nature camp was organized from December 10th to 12th 2010 at Neyyar in association with Department of forestry, Govt. of India. 44 N.S.S. volunteers and 2 programme officers attended the camp.  Rajalakshmi G. attended the prestigious Republic Day Parade camp held at New Delhi from 1st to 31st January 2011.  N.S.S volunteers Roopa Angelina, Meera Nair, Malu Maxon attended Inter Collegiate Camp at St. Thomas College, Pala from 21st to 23rd January 2011.  A Special Camp was organized at St. Mary‟s High School, Valarpadam from 19th – 25th August 2010  A Three Day Camp was organized at St. Teresa‟s College, Ernakulam from 18th – 20th February 2011

Special Camp at St. Mary’s High School, Valarpadam 19.08.2011 – 25.08.2010

The N.S.S. Special camp was organized from 19th August to 25th August at St. Mary‟s School, Vallarpadam. A pre-camp orientation was given to the N.S.S volunteers by Dr. T.P. Sasikumar on 18th August 2010. The main focus of the camp was health and sanitation. The socio-economic-health survey conducted by the N.S.S volunteers last year, enabled to identify families which were listed for providing help. The Camp was inaugurated on 19.08.2011 at St. Mary‟s High School, Vallarpadam by Shri. Dominic Presentation MLA. Rev. Sr. Christabelle presided over the meeting. The meeting was attended by Smt. Anna. K.A, Headmistress, St. Mary‟s High School, Peter Corriea, Panchayat Member, Rev. Father Dominic Kanappilly (Vallarpadam Basilica), parents, staff and students of the school. The Onam Kit comprising of 5kg rice and other essentials were distributed to fifty needy students of the same school. The main activities undertaken by the volunteers were construction of a bathroom, cleaning of the panchayat road and one of the oldest Anglo Indian schools in Vallarpadam. The volunteers were helped by the people in the community. The construction of the bathroom was completed on 24.08.2011 and handed over to the family. A series of Lectures were organized for the volunteers. The main resource persons were Mr. Kiran Thampi (TOC, Rajagiri), Dr. K.G RadhaKrishnan (Medical College, Thrissur) and Mr. Kishore (V.H.H.S, Malappuram), Dr. Beena Job (Associate Professor, St. Teresa‟s), Dr. T.P. Sasikumar and Rev. Father Thomas Pulikkal (Vallarpadam Basilica). Sri. I.V Soman (Director, TOC) gave the Onam message on 23.08.2010 evening. The hand written Magazine Yuva Sagarm was released by Sri. Renji Panikker (Director, Script writer and Managing Director, of Vaartha News Paper) on 24.08.2010 for the Valedictory function. He spoke about women and Politics. A Kala Sandhya was organized for the community on the same day. A special session on Youth & Spirituality was organized for the N.S.S Volunteers on morning of 25.08.2010. The Main Resource was Dr. Beena Job. Prof. Mathew (Syndicate Member, M.G. The three day camp was inaugurated by Sri. Johny Lucas, famous Media Personality (Manorama Vision) on 18.02.2011. One Hundred and twenty volunteers participated in the three day camp. Sri. Johny Lucas spoke to the volunteers about the relevance of N.S.S. during student life.

Activities  A visit to Palliative Care Centre, Perumbadappu was organized for the N.S.S. volunteers on 18.02.2011. The students got an opportunity to interact with the inmates and listed themselves as volunteers to do service at that center on „on call‟ basis.  A session on Yoga and meditation was organized for the volunteers in the morning, on all three days.  As a part of the activities of the Red Ribbon Club, a talk was organized for the volunteers from Prathyasha Bhavan. The main Resource Person was Mr. Ramesh who is himself an AIDS patient.  A talk and an interactive session were organized for the volunteers on “How safe are women in Contemporary Society”. The Main Resource was C.I. of Police Sri. Raveedranath.  A session on Leadership Skills was conducted for the volunteers in the afternoon by Sri. Ranjith Kumar, co-ordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra.  The volunteers undertook Campus Cleaning and Library Cleaning as a part of the camp activity. The volunteers also took a pledge for making the campus free from Plastic.  Each day ended with the presentation of Campus paper and cultural activities. The camp ended with a feedback session and a review of the activities which took place in the current academic year.

THREE DAY NATURE STUDY CAMP at Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Trivandrum from 10.12.2010- 12.12.2010

The Camp was organized by Cochin South Rotary, Forest DPT, Govt of Kerala. St. Teresa‟s College NSS Unit, Ekm and was inaugurated by Mr. Prasad (Forester). He also took awareness-cum-interactive class about Neyyar Forest Faculty: Mr. Renjith Kumar, Mr. Vinod, Mrs. Teresa Felitia & Sr. Anveeta. Activities  On 11.12.2010, a trek was organized for the students.  On 12.12.2010, volunteers were taken to the Lion Safari Park and Crocodile Rehabilitation Centre.

 The N.S.S Unit received a Trophy and a Certificate of Appreciation for the active participation in the Anti- Tobacco Campaign Programme initiated by the District Collector, Ernakulam on 17.02.2011  The N.S.S. Unit also secured The Cochin South Rotary N.S.S. Unit Award instituted for the best N.S.S. Unit in Ernakulam District. It was selected on the basis of the following criteria: Social Service, Serving the Needy, Conducting Health Awareness Campaigns in Society along with Health Surveys, Organising Different Environmental Camps, Active Participation in Anti- Drug Campaign and conducting various personality development camps.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

 Based on the survey, the volunteers and the P.O.‟s selected the family of Varghese at Vallarpadam. The task was to finish the bathroom in seven days, during the special camp. The Principal, Rev. Sr. Christabelle, provided financial aid for construction. The volunteers shouldered the entire responsibility of transporting materials to the work site. Technical support was provided by Palladium Properties. The volunteers were divided in to groups and they successfully completed the task in 7 days. The result was a 50 square feet tiled bathroom with proper septic tank for the family. THE PROJECT – HOME FOR THE HOMELESS  Based on the socio-economic Health survey conducted among 1500 families of kudumbi community, the family of Chandrahasan was selected. Both Chandrahasan and his wife are physically impaired. Their only daughter has hearing and talking impairment. They have three cents of land without any pattayam. So the first task for the P.O‟s was to help them get the pattayam for the property. It took three months to get proper sanction from the panchayat. The foundation stone was laid by Rev. Sr. Christabelle on 28.03.2011. The main sponsor was Palladium Properties. It is a 550 square feet house with an attached bathroom. The estimated cost of construction is Rs. Three Lakhs (Rs 3, 00,000).

SERVING THE NEEDY  During the special camp, the Onam Kit comprising of 5kg rice and other essentials were distributed to fifty needy students of the St. Mary‟s High School.  The volunteers distributed food for the inmates of the palliative care unit at Perumpadappu.  The main activity of the Red Ribbon Club is sponsoring the Education of Two children of AIDS victims. Under the Initiative of the N.S.S. unit the students of St. Teresa‟s Skip a meal and contribute Rs. 15 for the needy.  The project Sparsham is to help the needy cancer patients of the Ernakulam District Hospital.

NCC The NCC wing of the college consists of 52 cadets. 20 parades were conducted during the year 2010-2011. The JUO Meera Babu and CQMS Nahuma Ahad participated in Special National Integration Camp held at Kavarathi, Lakshadweep from April 12-24, 2010. Sergeant Aswathy K. Umesan participated in the National Integration Camp (NIC) held and Jammu & Kashmir in November 2010. Sergeant Nayana Tensing won the third prize in the shooting competition at Pre-TSC held at Calicut. She was also selected for Mulangam Inter Directorate Shooting Competition held at Jalandhar, Punjab in October 2010.

Improvements in Library Services The plans made over the course of the previous academic years to bring about improvements in the services offered in the Library and to make the library digital and state-of-the-art was implemented during 2010-2011. In addition to the resources that have been added in terms of books and journals, the Library refurbishment project has resulted in a completely automated, digitally controlled library system which is fully equipped to deal with the demands of the student and teaching body. The library that encompasses three floors can now be accessed through a single door entry system through RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards that automatically scans and records individual IDs and allow entry. The main Reception Counter situated at the entry level acts as Information, Issue and Property Counter. A comprehensive library management solution, in the form of the latest software technologies, has been incorporated. This new system allows for the annual stocktaking of books, items owned, orders made, acquisitions, cataloging circulation and public interface for users. The library boasts N-List, 78,084 books, 21 International Journals and 76 National Journals. In addition to N-list, the library also contains E- Repository, D-Space Digital Repository Library services. Students are given training on accessing and using N-List [Digital Library]. A Talking Book section has been added to the Library. In this manner, the college has ensured visually impaired and challenged students can utilize the library resources without difficulty. PCs, LaserJet Printer and a Photocopier have been added during the course of the academic year. Library Newsletter- LIBER- is published monthly to disseminate information about new addition of books and journals, availability of UGC Grants for the departments, subject wise number of books, and Library Time schedule. As a part of Campus automation, structured online feedback on teachers by students was conducted by all departments.. The teachers were assessed for their strengths and weaknesses, the results of which are available to the Principal and individual teachers. 24. Feedback from stakeholders

All the departments obtained feedback from the stakeholders during the open house programmes and annual PTA meetings. The parents were open to discussions on upgrading of services, methods of teaching and disciplinary actions. The Alumnae, public and community are involved in the evaluation process. Feedback is processed using Linux based software, developed by Smt. Andal V., Dept. of Computer Applications.

 Training on “General Informatics” for college teachers sponsored by the Kerala Higher Education Council from 20th to 22nd December 2010. Teachers from all the departments attended and received hands on experience in online computer applications like Skype, Web conference, etc. Dept. of Chemistry  Training in Power point presentationin July 2010 for IIIrd year B.Sc Chemistry Students, making them more confident in preparing Power point Presentations with aesthetic appeal. Dept. of Economics  INFLIBNET access - online library source for staff and students.  Training in SPSS for the students which resulted in better analytical capabilities  Provided training on PowerPoint and internet browsing for the students to enhance their knowledge Dept. of Sociology  SPSS Training for one day for P.G. students which helped them in using the software for the data analysis on their dissertation. 31. Activities and Support from the Alumnae Association

An annual alumnae get together was held on 10th July 2010. They shared their views regarding the formulation of innovative programmes for the holistic development of the students.

 The Dept. of Home Science undertook the responsibility to print an alumnae directory in order to develop a better communication and link between Alumnae.  The annual Christmas sale was conducted on 10 – 12 – 2010 by the alumnae and the income generated was used for the benefit of the students.  The Dept. of Physics arranged a re-union of Physics family on 2nd October 2010.

The alumnae made contributions for various developmental activities of the Depts. Feedback on the College and its activities was collected from the alumnae and in the light of which, necessary improvements were made.

The alumnae association also provides financial support to the needy students.

 Home Science Dept. has instituted the ACTH-Scholarship for 11 students (U.G. and P.G.)  The jubilee fund of the Zoology Dept is created by the generous contribution from the alumnae, which is used for supporting the most deserving student of the Dept.  The Dept. of Physics also has instituted scholarship for the five financially backward students  The Dept. of Commerce provided scholarships for two needy students.

32. Activities and support from the Parent-Teacher Association

All the Departments held PTA meetings, during which the report cards of the students were distributed. Interaction between the parents and teachers brought to light the strengths and weakness of the students in academics.  A talk on Parent Empowerment was conducted for the parents of the freshers on the opening day.  The Dept of Commerce conducted a work shop on 28/1/2011 for the parents on Better Parenting.  The Dept of English conducted a talk by Mr. Jose Andrews, Educator, Columnist and Guest speaker on TV Channels, on 28/1/2011 to create awareness in parents about the academic and extra-curricular potential of their wards.

 The P.T.A. of the Dept. Of Zoology conducted sale of Ecofriendly Jute bags, it creates income and spread of message on environment protection dated 7/ 1/ 2011  Thyroid testing camp was conducted with the support of P.T.A. of Dept. Of Zoology.  The PTA supported National and International conferences organised by the institution.

 NSS arranged Blood donation and eye camp with the support of IMA  Daily lunch was sponsored to needy students.  Medical checkup for 2nd Year students conducted by Physical Education department to improve the level of health of the students  Mathematics Dept. conducted awareness talk on AIDS on 21/07/2010

Home Science  Cardiovascular risk assessment of College teachers was done by senior M.Sc. Food and Nutrition students for creating awareness regarding healthy lifestyle and to assess nutritional status by anthropometric and biochemical parameters.

Women’s Study Centre  Conducted Nutritional Screening -To check the height, weight, body fat, blood glucose level and blood pressure among all clients of diet clinic, students and staff of the department.

Zoology  A Wellness Centre With 3 sophisticated Health Fitness Machine was inaugurated to promote Natural Health Practices in order to maintain a stress-free, Healthy Body and Mind  As part of the practicals, students conducted a blood checkup Camp at nominal rate for Students, Parents, Teachers and others in order to create an awareness on the importance of blood tests.  An international seminar on ' Nutritional Medicine‟ was conducted on 8/12/2010 to create awareness on the beneficial effects of most available vitamins like Vitamin C on general well-being.140 (students and teachers ) participants attended the seminar.  A talk on thyroid gland and a thyroid testing camp was conducted by testing TSH activity at a nominal rate of Rs. 50. 165 for students, parents, teachers and others who attended the seminar and camp.

Physical Education  Routine Physical tests were conducted to check students for anemia and basic physical fitness which ensures that students have a healthy body to support a healthy mind and to detect chronic medical problems(AAPHERD)

Chemistry  Dr. Susha Miriam Biju and her team (Vettikkattil Dental Clinic, Fort Cochin) conducted a Dental Checkup Camp, October 2010, for the teachers and students of the Chemistry Department.

 Our dancers bagged the IIIrd prize at the Dhoom Dance Competition conducted by Rosebowl.  Students participated in the South Zone Inter University competitions in Sastra University, Tanjore, representing MG University for the Western Group Song, Elocution and Debate Competition. We bagged the IIIrd prize for Elocution.  Anjala Parveen and Maria Rajan Thaliath of III year English Literature won the IInd prize for a paper presentation on Ecology and Poetry at a National seminar conducted by St. Xavier‟s College, Aluva.  An inter Collegiate Quiz competition was conducted at NSS Hindu College, Changanassery. Akhila Kumaran and Lakshmi R Nair of IIIrd Economics bagged the Ist prize.  An essay writing competition was conducted by Kanayanoor circle Co-operative Union. Shine Brijit of I Economics and Rosemol of II Economics bagged the Ist and IInd prize respectively.  Maria Rajan Thaliath of III English Literature bagged the Ist prize in Mock Press and Lini Jolly of Ist Sociology bagged the Ist prize in Sargapadham – A Literary Pentathlon competition conducted by Sacred Heart College, Thevara.  A dedicated group of students participated in various individual and group events, at the University Youth Festival scheduled from 27th – 31st January. After a period of seven years, St. Teresa‟s was crowned the Overall Champions.

37. Activities of the guidance and counselling units Counselling Cell The college has a guidance and counseling cell with a few trained teachers as counselors. Other teachers also do the tutorial sessions. They identify students with 89 St.Teresa’s College, AQAR 2010-’11

problems and refer them to the college counselors. Teachers also take interest in follow up sessions. Professional counselors are invited to the college and classwise lectures and discussions are arranged. The tutorial system coupled with mentoring caters to academic and personal counseling. Every faculty is in charge of at least 20 students whom she meets regularly. The services of a trained counselor, Dr. Shirly Tharakan, were availed by the students in the campus every Wednesday. 38. Placement services provided to students

A. Placement activities conducted in the college:  The placement cell coordinated an M.G University intercollegiate campus recruitment drive for Tata Consultancy Services on 08-06-2010. Twenty colleges were invited to attend the recruitment drive. About 400 candidates participated.  Ms. Swathy Varma attended a one day workshop for placement officers on ' English for better employment' organized by Cambridge One EBEK at Hotel Taj Gateway on the 8th of October 2010.  In the month of September 2010, final year students of P.G and U.G courses had registered as members of the placement cell. At present placement cell has 200 members.  On 13-09-2010 students were sent to attend the King Fisher cabin crew walk-in interview in their Cochin office.  Tata Consultancy Services visited our college for an intercollegiate student interaction program on the 19th of October 2010. Students from five neighboring colleges attended the program.  On 03-011-2010 Google India conducted their first phase of recruitment for all the final year U G students. HR Manager Mr. Anirudh Bide interacted with the students followed by a presentation.  In association with the career guidance cell, MIR IFCR had a presentation for the final year Science graduates at Gym Plaza on 09-12-2010. They created an awareness about the job opportunities in the clinical health research industry.  Three of our students attended the King Fisher interview for Cabin Crew on the 3rd of December 2010. One student was selected.  On 08-12-2010 WIPRO Technologies visited our campus to recruit for the post of Non-Technical Associate. 27 students were shortlisted after the first round of written test.10 students were selected in the final interview.  On 13-12-2010 Patni Computer Systems visited our campus to recruit students as software engineers from final year BSC and BCA streams. About 80 students attended the recruitment drive.  On 17-12-2010, Radio Mango RJ hunt was held in our campus. About 50 students participated and 5 students were shortlisted.  On 17-12-2010 a training session was conducted by COMPASS, at seminar hall. About 100 students attended the training programme and a „Neuro Linguistic aptitude test‟ was conducted. 15 students were given a sample test.  Spectrum Softech Solutions arrived for a recruitment programme to recruit students to various IT enabled service sectors, on 12-01-2011. 75 students undertook a written test.  Outsource Partners International visited the campus for recruitment on the 21st of January, 2011. 7 students were given offer letters on the same day itself. Value Education programmes Students joining the first year course were given a two day orientation, which set the stage for the value education classes that followed.

Value education classes were conducted regularly. A team of teachers were entrusted to plan, monitor and evaluate the value education classes. Topics were fixed for the classes and given to the respective teachers beforehand. The topics selected for value education classes for academic year 2010-2011 included Values, Importance of Family, Awareness of Society, Significance of Positive Thinking, Love, Prayer, Environment, Healthy Way of Living, The Pursuit of Happiness, Time Management and Personality Development. The importance of National Days was discussed in the class and the students were made aware of their role in building up national integration and solidarity. Dr. Geetha Andrews (Chemistry) attended a national conference on Enhancing Human resource development through Excellence in Education organized by Christ University, Bangalore and presented a paper on Value education –A Powerful tool for Human resource development. The institution‟s preferential option for the under privileged was highlighted through activities that promote sharing of resources and material goods.  The staff and students celebrated World Food Day by handing over 400 kg of rice to Love and Care Organization.  The college continued to contribute food packets once a week to Love and Care Organization with every class taking turns.  Four children from AIDS affected families continued to be sponsored by the staff, students and retired staff of the college. 95 St.Teresa’s College, AQAR 2010-’11

 During the requiem Mass for Mother Digna, every Department in the College contributed 5 kg of rice each for the Offertory procession. The rice was then distributed to the poor.  Many of our students were volunteers and the driving force of the organization Make a Difference (MAD). This was the only entry from India which was been shortlisted for the Staples Youth Social Entrepreneur Award. The girls gave up their free time to teach and help underprivileged and dyslexic students in various schools and orphanages to help them cope with their lessons.  The students volunteered with Inclusive Planet, an exclusive website for disabled people. They provided and managed online content for the site.  Visits to hospitals, old-age homes, orphanages were a regular part of the outreach programs for the students initiated by the college.  Noon meal Programme A welfare fund was created by the Teaching Staff for providing noon meals to the deserving students of the college. Every month the collections were made from the salary and credited to the staff fund. Monthly Cards were issued to the Students and Noon meals were provided in the canteen, to the needy students of each class.  Jesus Youth conduct weekly 2-hour prayer meetings every Wednesday.  All Kerala Library Association conducted a Soft Skill Development and career Guidance seminar on 24-07-2010.  NIIT Cochin conducted a career oriented talk on The Computer Technology and Career in the IT Industry on 20-07-2010 for the second year degree students of the Arts and Science streams.  Career Guidance seminar on MBA course conducted by MBA consultancy firm on 12-08-2010 for II DC students.  Seminar on Personality Development was conducted by Dr. Ratheesh Ambatt on 20-09-2010 for III DC students.  On 18-11-2010 the final year students of the Commerce and Economics streams were given a soft skill development programme by Mr. Vijay Korath, Corporate Trainer, MIR-IFCR  A Clinical Research Institute, Cochin conducted a one day seminar in the field of Clinical Research and Health care on 09-12-2010 for the final year degree and Post graduate students of Science stream. They focused on the needs of the clinical labs and the skills required for the employment.  A one day training programme and workshop on personal grooming, basic etiquette, email and telephone etiquette, job search skills, language proficiency and communicative skills was conducted for the final year History and Sociology students on 15-12-2010 by Ms. Nisha, Green Pepper Pvt. Ltd. Cochin.  A one day seminar was arranged for the final year Maths students on Soft skills Development by Mr. Ravi R Kamath, Sr. Executive, Career Launcher India Ltd Cochin on 22nd December 2010. Team work, group discussions, interview skills, logical reasoning and speaking skills were the main areas of focus.  A seminar was conducted on 03-09-2010 on the topic “The Relevance of Higher Education Opportunities for Commerce Students”. The resource person was Mr. Radhakrishnan V, the Relationship Officer of Logic Management Training Institutes Pvt. Ltd. The topic included details of International and Indian Professional Courses, motivation sessions and career  Students attended an Educational Fair organised by Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, UK at Le Meridian, Kochi on 20-01-2011. Prof. Mike Dillon Vice-Principal, Research & Enterprise Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, UK was the resource person.  A seminar was conducted on the topic “Career Prospects” on 29-09-2010. The resource person was Dr. Venkataraman, eminent Career guidance trainer.  Over the course of the year, 14 one-day workshops were organized by the Green Pepper Pvt. Ltd., Cochin for the various departments. The resource persons were Mr. Krishnakumar, Miss. Nisha and Mr. Vijayakumar. Counselling Cell  The first meeting of the Cell was on 11th August, 2010.  The activities of the cell for the academic year were inaugurated on 13th of August, 2010 by Dr. C.J. John, Psychiatrist, Medical Trust Hospital, Ernakulum.  A professional counselor, Smt. Shirley Tharakan, was appointed.  Regular counselling classes were arranged during the course of the year for students. The classes were arranged on 22nd September, 29th September, 6th October, 13th October, 20th October and 27th October, 3rd November, 10th November, 16th November and 24th November , 1st December, 8th December, 15th December 2010 and 5th January and 12th of January.  A talk on „Stress Management‟ was organized on 3rd October, 2010.  The Counselling Cell of the college oversaw the activities associated with mentoring students.

Debate Club The activities of the Club began on 23rd July 2010 with the conduct of auditions for elocution, extempore and debate. A group of five students were identified to represent the college at various inter-collegiate competitions.  The first meeting of the members of the Fine Arts Club was held on 21st July 2010 and the activities for the year were planned.  A poster designing competition was organized in the college on 10th August 2010. Botany participated in the painting competition organized by the Vernissage Art Gallery in association with Lions Club International on 25th October 2010.  On January 12th 2011, a poster designing competition was organized to screen talents to represent the college at the M.G. University Youth Festival and Nimitha R. of II B.Sc. Zoology was selected. Poetry Club  The club conducted an inter-departmental English and Malayalam Poetry Writing competition on the 21st July 2010. 41 students participated in the event. The topic for the English competition was „Colours of Life‟ and that of the Malayalam competition was „a lonely man walking along a deserted road'. The winners of the English poetry writing competition were  Amina Abdurazak (I B.A. English Literature)  Stephy Alex (I B.A. Communicative English)  Lourdes D'coutho (I B.A. French)  The winners of the Malayalam poetry writing competition were  Gayathri Sharma (II B.Sc. University Youth Festival for the poetry writing event. Grievance Redressal Cell  The activities of the Cell for the academic year was inaugurated on 14th July, 2010  The Teachers in charge of the cell met with two representatives from each class at regular intervals.  The first meeting was held on 14th July, 2010.  A second meeting was held on 15th August, 2010 in both the Science and Arts blocks. Suggestions made and action taken  The students in the Arts Block suggested that a menu card with price of each item be displayed at the canteen and cafeteria  They also requested that Library hours be extended .  Suggested that a watchman be appointed to man the LP School gate so that the science students have easy access to the Arts block through the said gate which is otherwise left locked.  Suggested that the Science Block Library should function regularly.  A facility to pay fees should be set up in the Science block. . Problems were redressed. Tourism Club  The activities for the academic year started with the election and appointment of Student Secretary. Tara J. Kallarackal of II B.A. French was appointed Student Secretary.  The Teachers-in-charge of the Club- Dr. Liza Jacob, Smt. Rashmi Joseph and Ms. Shoba Liza John- attended a meeting for Coordinators (Teachers) of the tourism clubs of Ernakulam District at the Ernakulam Guest House organized by Ernakulam DTPC on 4th June 2010. The agenda of the meeting was the planning of the activities of the clubs for 2010-11 and submission of project proposals.

 The Club organized a Tourism Quiz Competition on 11th August 2010. Mary Jency K.J. and Anooja Manayath of III B.Sc. Botany bagged the first prize. The second prize was shared by Anjali S. and Maria Davina of II B.A. Communicative English.

 A painting competition on the topic „Pilgrimage Tourism‟ was organized by the Club on 21st August 2010. The 1st and 2nd prizes were won by S. Sudeeptha of I M.Sc. Botany and Lourdes D‟Coutho of I BA French respectively.

 An essay writing competition on Tourism and Biodiversity was organized on 7th September 2010. The first and second prizes in the Malayalam section were bagged by Sajna Nazar and Mary Helta of III B.Sc. Botany respectively while V.R. Vachana of I B.A. Economics won the first prize and S. Sudeeptha of I M.Sc. Botany won the second prize in the English section.

 The Tourism Club celebrated the World Tourism Day on 24th September 2010. The chief guest was Dr. Shila Papoo, Former Head of the Hindi Dept. of St. Xavier‟s College, Aluva.

 The Teachers-in-charge of the Club attended meetings for Coordinators of the Tourism Clubs of Ernakulam District organized by Ernakulam DTPC on 27th July, 24th September and 23rd December 2010.

 The Club submitted a project proposal on the tourist destination- Vallarpadam. It was sanctioned by DTPC, Ernakulam and a financial assistance of Rs. 1500/- was given to the Club. The project was completed and a report was submitted to DTPC.

 The Teachers-in-charge (Coordinators) and 5 members of the Club attended a District Tourism Camp held at St. Joseph‟s H.S.S, Paingottoor, Muvattupuzha.

 The Club organized a one-day tour to Vagamon in 15th February 2011. 31 students accompanied by two teachers went on the tour. Writer’s Forum The Writer‟s Forum encouraged many aspiring writers and provided them with opportunities to exhibit their talents. Prizes won in competitive events  Akhila Kumaran and Radhu Ramachandran of III B.A. Economics won the I and III places respectively in the essay competition organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce on 8th September 2010 on the topic „Freedom Demands Respect for the Freedom of Others.‟  Michelle Tony of I B.A. Communicative English won the III prize in the essay competition conducted by Alphonsa College, Pala on 16th August 2010 on the topic „Recent Advances in Life Sciences‟.  Shine Brigit and Rosemol of the I B.A. Economics won the first and second prizes respectively in the Malayalam essay competition conducted by the Kanayannur Circle Co-operative Union on 29th October 2010. Participation in competitive events  4 students from II B.A. English and 1 student from I Communicative English participated in the competition organized by Sri Rama Chandra Mission on the topic „Ambition to Aspirations, From Acquiring to Becoming‟ on 21 September, 2010.  Maria Thaliath of III B.A. English participated in the competition organized by K.R. Narayanan Study Centre on 8th October 2010 on the topic „Democracy and Marginalized Sections in India‟.  8 students of the college participated in the ITC Essay Contest for Youth organized on 10th October 2010.  Maria Thaliath and Bela Susan Thomas of III B.A. English participated in the competition organized by the District Medical Office, Ernakulam on „Mass Drug Administration‟  Akhila Kumaran of III B.A. Economics participated in the essay competition organized by the Xavier Board of Higher Education, Bangalore.

 Akhila Kumaran (III B.A. Economics), Michelle Tony, Mahima Mathew, Rithu Lal (I B.A. Communicative English), Ananya Rajoo (II B.A. English), Bela Susan Thomas (III B.A. English) and Miriam Mathews (II B.A. Economics) participated in the essay competition organized by the South Indian Bank on the topic „India- An Economic Super Power‟. Nature Club  The Club titled the Kannan Devan Nature Club began its activities for the academic year with the inauguration of the office bearers. Smrithy Vijayan of II B.Sc. Botany was elected as the Secretary while Remya Manoharan II B.Sc. Botany and Anupama Unnikrishnan of II B.A. History were elected as the Treasurer and Assistant Secretary respectively. Five committee members were also elected.  A flower carpet competition was organized as part of the Onam celebrations by the Club on 19th August 2010. 24 teams participated in the event. The First Prize with a cash award of Rs. 2500 was bagged by I B.A. English, while Second Prize and a cash award of Rs. 1750 and the Third Prize and cash award of Rs. 1250 were bagged by I B.Sc. Chemistry and III B.Com respectively.  The Club organized a one-day Seminar on „Green movement‟ on 23rd September 2010 in collaboration with the Indian Green Building Council, Cochin Chapter as part of the World Green Building Week celebrations.  The activities of the Club were officially inaugurated on the same day by Dr. Dareshan Unnithan, Chairman of Energy Management Centre, Trivandrum.  An Intercollegiate Debate Competition was organized on 23rd September 2010 on the topic „Is Climate Change a reality?‟ 10 teams from various colleges participated in the event and the first prize was won by Sacred Heart College, Thevara. The best Speaker was awarded an amount of Rs. 1500/- by the Indian Green Building Council.  A nature trip to Vagamon was organized by the club and 60 students accompanied by two staff advisors Dr. Lizzy Mathew and Smt. Neena Unnikrishnan went on the trip.  The Carbon Club which was launched under the aegis of the Nature Club in association with Plan@Earth continued its functioning with regular collection of paper waste in the college.  The State Level Environmental Awareness Evaluation Committee selected the Nature Club of the college for the formation of Bhoomithra Club under the Bhoomithra Sena Scheme. The Bhoomithra Sena sanctioned an amount of Rs. 15,000/- for the academic year to organize different environmental activities in and outside the college campus. 63 students became members of Bhoomithra Club.  The Club has proposed the setting up of a vegetable garden in the campus. 102 St.Teresa’s College, AQAR 2010-’11

Music Club St. Teresa‟s College has had a record of consistent achievement in music over the last few decades. The Music club has two wings, the Western and Eastern groups. Trained musicians are hired to train the group for competitions. The period 2010 - 2011 has been an eventful one marked by notable achievements. Needless to say, there has been no dearth of musically talented students in this period. Activities and achievements:

 Condcuted the music ministry for the Orientation Programme for Ist Year Students and rendered prayer songs for all the functions in the college.  An initiative was taken by the Music Club to get the College Anthem composed, arranged and recorded. The College Union bore the expenses and the members of the Western Band who had won prizes at the National University Youth Festival rendered the song under the guidance and training of Dr. Beena Job. The CD was then dedicated and presented during the valedictory function on 31st March 2011 to the Principal Sr. Christabelle, whose idea it was to have a College Anthem in the first place.  Yet another highlight was the grand inauguration of the Music Club the (first of its kind) on 8 Sep 2010 by Mr. Branko Stark (President and Founder, Croatian Choral Directors' Association) who was on a visit to India following which Mr. Stark gave a Master Class and workshop to 100 students based on his song titled We Move the World which had been taught to the students by Dr. Beena Job. Anna Kuruvila (Music Club Secretary) read the report and there was an address by Mr. Prakash Mathew (President, Rock of Ages). The 100 strong choir that received training came together several times over the year and performed on College Day and sang carols for the Christmas Celebration of 2010. They were covered by a local television channel and their programme was then telecast.  On 18th December, Maria Davina, Saniya Correya and Sandriya Correya, all members of the Music Club participated in the choir to sing Christmas carols at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan.  The members of the Music Club made the Valedictory function for the outgoing students and the retiring staff memorable by their songs.  So also College Day witnessed a rendition of songs by 100 singers of the Music Club. Section C: Outcomes achieved by the end of the year The IQAC was successful in fulfilling the plans made at the beginning of the academic year to a very great extent.

 A number of programmes were conducted focusing on Fostering Global Competencies and enhancing academic excellence. This year a greater number of national seminars and workshops were organized. The campus placement cell was successful in conducting many campus recruitment drives. Many international companies shortlisted the students and the majority of them got placement. The remedial classes and special entrance coaching were beneficial for the minority and backward community students.  As planned, the depts. of Botany, Sociology and Economics started the UGC/NET coaching centers in Life sciences and Social sciences.  UGC sponsored Add-on course in Plant Resource Development and Management has been started in the Department of Botany  The institution also organized many programmes highlighting its environmental and societal commitments. The thrust area of many of the seminars conducted was the global environmental problems.  The Teresian Rural Outreach Programme (TROP) was very successful in reaching out to the society. All the departments were actively involved in the programme.  The Physical Education Dept conducted AAPHERD test and follow up procedures to improve health and physical fitness of the students.  The Women study Centre started a Diet clinic in the campus for diet counseling.  The Zoology Wellness center and Microbiology lab for Zoology department  In order to promote the use of Technology, seminars and workshops were conducted to increase the awareness regarding ICT. 4 ICT enabled class rooms were set up.  A new website www.kalalayam.com was launched by the Malayalam Department as part of the Akshaya Project initiated by the Government of Kerala  Library is fully automated. NLIST & Delnet are available in the library.  CLASS software is fully functional.  Online AQAR is initiated.  Linux based software was developed to process feedback data.

 Punching system was introduced for recording staff attendance.  The infrastructure has been augmented to a great extent. Renovation of the Chemistry, Zoology, Physics and Botany Laboratories was completed. In order to enhance learning facilities for the students and to keep in tune with the changed curriculum, more laboratory equipments and instruments were added to the science laboratories.  Research, consultancy and extension activities have received increasing importance during the year.
