The calendar has been finalised and the tracks booked and HRC are just waiting to finalise with the classes what events they wish to run at before we announce the full list of classes running at each event. Some events are already full with eleven classes which is really the limit we can run at a two day meeting. Some interesting projects coming up including a possible new motoring TV show (f we can get support) and a rerun of the B & H 500. HRC are endeavouring to run Classic meetings and Mixed Meetings as separate events with the classic meetings with older cars and hopefully cars with COD’s. Unfortunately for commercial reasons we have to have some non-classic classes at these meeting to make them viable. The classic meetings are the Icebreaker 28/29th September Hampton Downs, Tasman Revival Hampton Downs 25/26th January, Tasman Revival Pukekohe 22/23rd February, Paul Fahey NZ Legends of Speed 21/22nd March Hampton Downs, Jack Nazer Classic Taupo 25/26th April. At these we will run BMW classes and ERC and while COD’s for these classes are not mandatory the cars competing in most cases could get COD’s. Race meeting organisers do need classes to combine as entry fees cannot keep rising.

ACCREDITED ARTICLES GOVERNING THE 2020-21 GTRNZ Race Series Preamble The GT Racing NZ Inc Club hereby declares that the following Articles to be those governing a Motor Racing Series for drivers of GTRNZ eligible cars. The Series is held under a MotorSport New Zealand Accredited Sanctioning Permit No: 200447 The Series is organised and held in accordance with the MotorSport NZ National Sporting Code, the Standing Regulations and any Supplementary Regulations applicable to and issued by the organisers of each round of the Series. These articles are at all times to be read in conjunction with: ⮚ The National Sporting Code (NSC) and its appropriate Appendices and Schedules, ⮚ The Technical Regulations - Schedule GTR ⮚ The Event Supplementary Regulations issued by the inviting Clubs. 1. INTERPRETATION: In these Articles, the definition of terms used within this Schedule shall be referenced from the National Sporting Code, and as detailed below: “The Series’’ means the GTRNZ Race Series for cars complying with Schedule GTR; and “The Club” or “GTRNZ” means the GT Racing NZ Inc Club; and “The Committee” or “Series Committee” shall mean the GTRNZ elected personnel at an AGM of the membership club, and ‘IRC’ means the Independent Race Classes organisation; and “National Sporting Code” or “NSC” means the National Sporting Code issued by MotorSport NZ from time to time; and “Performance Criteria” means the lap times specified by the Club as the parameters for each class. “Round Organiser” or “Inviting Club” means the MotorSport NZ member Club organising a Meeting and/or Event which is a round of the Series; and “Round” means each Meeting and / or Event, the results of which qualify for points in the Series.

How to Create Lap Triggers with the GPS Laptrigger Module
How to create lap triggers with the GPS Laptrigger module Connect the GPS Laptrigger to the IR Laptrigger connector and turn the function on by pushing the “TRIP” button briefly. If you´re using the 2015 bike the trigger mode must be set to “Automatic” or “External”, please refer to the bike´s manual. Position of the IR Laptrigger connector Recommended mounting position of the GPS Laptrigger As soon as the GPS Laptrigger module has found the satellite´s signal (takes up to 5 minutes, usually 1 minute), the LED is flashing fast1 and it checks if the last used trigger coordinates are valid for the actual position (within a radius of 5 km). If the position is valid, it will be used to create a lap trigger. Otherwise the module searches if there is a matching start line stored in its GPS coordinates table. Have a look at the appendix for the circuit start lines which are stored in this table. If there is no matching start line stored or you want to use another position you can manually define a position. To define a positon you push the “TRIP”* button while driving/riding (speed > 10 km/h) for longer than 2 s. The module will then use the actual position of the vehicle (at the start of pushing) as a trigger position. * If you´re using a 2015 bike, please use the grip heater button! A manually defined position will be stored until it is overwritten by a new position definition. A manually defined position is not stored in the GPS coordinates table.

Motor Racing has been affected by the Covid 19 virus and I am sure a lot of businesses are feeling the pain. Motor Racing events that have been held so far have attracted few entries and this is very concerning for the forthcoming season. To run a race meeting, most costs are fixed so a minimum level of entries is required before the event can proceed. Only a certain number of races can be done in day and fields of less than fifteen cars make a meeting very marginal. Of course entry fees could be increased but HRC considers this would be counter productive. Photo Credit – Matt Smith For 19th July at Hampton Downs HRC tried, but with only ten entries thirteen days out from the event HRC were not able to take the risk or cover a hefty loss so we had no choice but to cancel. This meeting addressed the concerns of drivers that entry fees were too high but certainly did not fix the entry problem. Event was widely advertised on the net with a total of 8000 views Entries can be transferred to Winter Series Round 2 on the 23rd August or HRC will make a full refund We were probably a bit optimistic in expecting a reasonable entry when our survey results showed we could only expect 50% of our competitors to start racing again.

President's Note Our New Patron Historic Heritage Award for Barry
President’s Note We are getting ready to get back into the race season with only a few months until the South Island Endurance round. We had a good turnout at the AGM and a quick meeting is always a good meeting. It was also good to see plenty of people show up to pay their respects to Wally. He led a very fascinating motor sport based life. Rachael Beck President Our new Patron Barry Keen has been appointed Patron of the Southland Sports Car Club. Keen becomes just the fourth patron in the club’s seventy-one year history following in the footsteps of his good friend Jack Johnstone who passed away last year. Like the past club patron’s Keen has a long and significant association with the club and is well respected, and is an ideal choice to become the figurehead of our club. It is appropriate that Keen is following Johnstone as the club’s patron as it was Johnstone who introduced Keen to motor racing. Keen’s first car was a Ford 8 Special purchased from Johnstone in 1956. Keen has been a member of the Southland Sports Car Club since that time. Keen said he was humbled to be named as patron. I am honoured to be the latest patron of the club. Historic Heritage Award for Barry Keen It has been a big few months for Southland Sports Car Club Life Member, Barry Keen, as he was also presented with a Historic Heritage Award at the recent Motorsport NZ Awards in Wellington. The Historic Heritage Awards were instigated in 2014 in recognition of services to historic and classic racing and Keen certainly justifies this prestigious award.

B Manawatu Car Club Inc Magazine December 2020 Page 1 of 52 EDITORSPEAK… email: [email protected] November has been hectic, from both a personal and work view, so I can only apologize that the magazine is a little later than usual. It is my fault entirely. The stress involved with finally selling our property in Auckland and organizing making the big move back to the Manawatu happen at the end of November (without a home to go to as I write) has just added to the pressure of being busy at work. I didn’t realize just how much “stuff” we had accumulated, all of which needed to be moved somewhere, although a very thorough cull went on and rest assured most of it wasn’t car related!! Plus, we have been trying to work out how to deal with the animals which we want to bring down. Add in some rather awkward buyers and the stress levels have been pretty high. Uncertainty ahead, hell no, only opportunities if I can open my eyes wide enough to see them!! Although I worked at the yard the weekend of the MG Classic meeting, I did make it over to the circuit on Sunday (my first time at this meeting for some years) to support Ian who was racing his XR8. And what a great meeting it was. Beautiful weather, a huge grid of Central Muscle cars, in fact BIG grids in every class, and superb racing, with MCC members featuring prominently. There are certainly some stunning race cars out there and even a wander through the carpark found some gems.
