Your organization’s good work continues to ensure that Manitobans’ shared values of respect, equality and inclusion are honoured and reflected in all aspects of the outstanding quality of life we all enjoy in our province. The growth and solidarity of the provincial LGBTTQ* community is a testament to the dedication and hard work of local members who recognized the strength of organization in working for the greater good. By encouraging dignity, respect and acceptance for all Manitobans, your work is helping so many people live their best lives, empowered by the rights and freedoms that every human being deserves. I commend you for your leadership in furthering human rights and for the lasting impact it will have for generations to come. I wish you continued success. THE HONOURABLE JANICE C. FILMON, C.M., O.M. Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba WWW.PRIDEWINNIPEG.COM A Message From THE PREMIER OF MANITOBA On behalf of all Manitobans, it gives me great pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to those participating in the 2019 Pride Winnipeg Festival. The Pride Winnipeg Festival puts the best of Manitoba on display to the world - our diversity, our inclusiveness, our compassion and our joy. These values bind us together as Manitobans and have made our province the wonderful place it is. For more than three decades, Pride Winnipeg has helped lead the way in Manitoba in advocating for the rights and interests of Manitoba’s LGBTTQ* community. Through its message of positive change, it has accomplished so much. Pride Winnipeg’s advocacy has broken barriers, changed attitudes and has given Manitobans the ability to be true to themselves and more accepting of others. I join all Manitobans in conveying our appreciation to Pride Winnipeg’s many volunteers for their commitment to ensuring the Pride Winnipeg Festival continues to be an exciting, joyful event each year. THE HONOURABLE BRIAN PALLISTER Premier of Manitoba 2019 PRIDE WINNIPEG FESTIVAL • 7 A Message From THE MAYOR OF WINNIPEG Welcome everyone! This year’s Pride of Colour Festival highlights the intersection of race and colour in the Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversities community with a goal of bringing the holistic GSRD community, in fact the whole of Winnipeg, together. I’m delighted to join with all of you in this celebration of awareness, acceptance, activism — and PRIDE! Pride celebrations unite hundreds of millions of people across the planet. Here in Winnipeg, the “Pride of the Prairies” brings the GSRD community and their allies, supporters, and friends together in one of the largest Pride celebrations between Toronto and Ontario. I hope that everyone enjoys their Pride celebrations and the joyful, exuberant atmosphere that comes with this festival. I hope that everyone will also take a moment to rededicate themselves to stand against racism and homophobia — wherever and however you see or experience it. I want to recognize the hard work of Pride Winnipeg, the volunteers, and the sponsors who make the Festival possible. Funds raised go to support community groups that help increase the visibility of traditionally socially excluded groups or promote diversity and inclusiveness amongst the GSRD community. On behalf of the City of Winnipeg, I want to wish everyone happiness, joy, inspiration, and freedom to be. Warmly, BRIAN BOWMAN Mayor of Winnipeg WWW.PRIDEWINNIPEG.COM A Message From THE PRESIDENT It’s my honor and privilege to welcome you to Pride Winnipeg 2019 on behalf of our Board of Director and Volunteers. This year marks the 32nd annual Pride Parade. We are as always incredibly excited about bringing you Pride again and hope that this continues to grow as it has done over the previous years. What makes this year so special is that we are commemorating 50 years of partial decriminalization of homosexuality in Canada and Stonewall Roits in USA. Not only does this symbolize the birth of our GSRD community as uniquely tied to the fight for our rights both nationally and globally, but also how much more work we have to do to make our spaces more inclusive and discrimination free. 2019 is the year of change, we have a new Kids Zone which comes with another stage for having all age inclusive programming and performances. We are also launching our Pride Guide App to ensure our commitment towards environmental sustainability and accessibility. Pride Winnipeg’s 2019 Theme “Pride of Colour” is a pivotal point towards festival’s commitment of inclusion and celebrating diversity. “With growing resurgence in the GSRD community, the understanding of marginalized and generally silenced voices has started making and taking over spaces. One of the frequently overlooked and commonly ignored intersections is race and colour of GSRD community. Generally, people of colour and pride are perceived as two ends of the whole community, where one is labelled as the symbol of privilege and the other is categorically oppressed and marginalized. Actively bridging the gap is the only way to bring the holistic GSRD community together.” Happy Pride!
