No 5 SQUADRON OF PAF RE-EQUIPPS WITH NEW F-16 C/D BLOCK 52+ AIRCRAFT Islamabad 10 March, 2011:- Re-equipment Ceremony of No 5 Squadron of Pakistan Air Force was held at PAF Base, Shahbaz (Jacobabad) on Thursday. No 5 Squadron, one of the oldest squadrons of the PAF, previously equipped with Mirage aircraft has now been re-equipped with newly inducted state-of-the-art F-16 C/D Block 52+ aircraft. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of the Army Staff, Pakistan Army was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force also attended the ceremony along with other senior civil and military officials. A re-equipment ceremony parade was also held on the occasion, in which the squadron color was presented to the squadron commander. Later, a formation of Mirage and F-16 Block 52 aircraft presented a fly-past. Ex squadron commanders of this elite squadron were also present at the occasion; notable among them was Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Hakimullah. Chief of the Army Staff while addressing at the occasion said, “As you know, Pakistan is at war with terrorists, who have disrupted peace and stability in the region and threatened our way of life. Pakistan Armed Forces have been battling these elements since 2004. These operations have been conducted through unprecedented close cooperation and support of PAF. The role of PAF has been critical; Pak Army fully appreciates the high level of professionalism displayed by PAF in all counter terrorist operations.” Speaking at the occasion, the Air Chief said, “The first decade of 21 century has seen PAF transforming into a modern and versatile force. Our focus has shifted from the traditional threat based development to development based on capabilities enhancement. Our effort has been to cover entire spectrum of Air Warfare to counter all internal as well as external challenges. Let me take this opportunity to reaffirm and reiterate that PAF will always provide effective support to our land forces in their operations against all internal as well as external enemies of Pakistan. With the induction of Block 52 F-16s, AEW, Aerial re-fuellers and a multi layered Air Defence system; PAF now has the capability to respond to various threats being faced by nation, with efficiency and safety. We have a mission to maintain peace with honour in this volatile region in these uncertain times. It’s PAF’s commitment to the nation that despite all odds, our resolve to defend the country shall remain unshakable. Whenever required, we will employ our assets, including these F-16s, to defend our nation and its freedom, against any aggressor, be it external or internal.” Pakistan Air Force received 18 state-of-the-art F-16 C/D Block 52+ aircraft in different batches from USA and the delivery was completed in December 2010. .

Graduation Ceremony Held at Paf Academy, Risalpur
GRADUATION CEREMONY HELD AT PAF ACADEMY, RISALPUR RISALPUR 28 OCTOBER, 2010: The Graduation Ceremony was held at Pakistan Air Force Academy Risalpur. General Khalid Shameem Wynne, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force was also present on the occassion. Addressing the Graduating Airmen, the Chief Guest said, “That PAF remains a potent force, fully capable of defending the aerial frontiers of Pakistan. The innovations carried out by PAF leadership have enabled it to make very meaningful contributions in the success of land forces in their fight against terrorism.” He further added that, “Today Pakistan is facing the aftermath of catastrophic floods, which in its wake has brought bereavement and devastation, surpassing records of last hundred years. Pakistan Air Force has once again come on the forefront in collaboration with Pak Army and Navy for flood relief and rehabilitation efforts.” On his arrival at the parade ground, General Salute was presented by Aviation Cadets. Later, the Chief Guest reviewed the parade and presented Quaid-e-Azam Banner to No 3 Squadron, the new Champion Squadron. This was followed by award of flying badges and branch insignias to graduating officers and aviation cadets. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee’s Trophy for Best Performance in General Service Training in College of Aeronautical Engineering was awarded to Pilot Officer Husham Muhammad, while Pilot Officer Salman Shair lifted Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee’s Trophy for Best Performance in General Service Training in College of Flying Training.

It uses Chinese characters to communicate the spiritual world of the artist. Just as one thousand persons will have as many faces, one thousand persons will have as many differences in handwriting. Through the medium of form, way of handling the brush, presentation, and style, calligraphy as a work of art conveys the moral integrity, character, emotions, esthetic feelings and culture of the artist to readers affecting them by the power of appeal and the joy of beauty. Calligraphy is not only a practical technique for writing Chinese characters, but also a unique Oriental art of expression and a branch of learning or discipline as well. As a branch of learning it is rich in content, including the evolution of writing styles, development and rules of technique, history of calligraphy, calligraphers and their inheritance in art, and evaluation of calligraphy as a work of art. This branch of learning is wide ranging and deep, forming an important part of Chinese culture. Like chopsticks, this calligraphy used to be wholly Chinese. Current affairs: Dec 4: Two Pakistani authors were among the 15 writers long-listed for Asia’s most prestigious literary prize on Tuesday, with entries spread across the region from Turkey to Japan. Musharraf Ali Farooqi’s “Between Clay and Dust” and Uzma Aslam Khan’s “Thinner Than Skin” were among seven South Asian nominees, also including three from India and two from Sri Lanka. “Silent House,” an early work from Turkish writer and 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature winner Orhan Pamuk, made the list after appearing in English for the first time. The Man Asian Literary Prize began in 2007 and is given to the best novel by an Asian writer, either written in English or translated into English. The 2011 Man Asian Literary Prize was awarded to South Korean author Kyung-sook Shin for her novel “Please Look After Mom”, a story about a family’s guilty soul-searching after the disappearance of their elderly mother that has gone on to sell more than two million copies.
