Půdorysem muzea prochází dvě okružní cesty: východozápadní shodná s Westzeedijk a severojižní veřejná rampa domem. Kurátorem je Berlage Institute a téma celé akce zní POWER - Producing the Contemporary City. Programme Third Biennale The programme of the third International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam contains different exhibitions , a PowerLounge, an international master class and other activities. Exhibitions The programme of the third biennale contains the following expositions: New Dutch City Visionary Power A Better World - Another Power The International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam and the Berlage Institute The IABR is a biennial event that brings knowledge and experienee in the designing disciplines (architecture, urban design and landseape arehiteeture) from all over the world to Rotterdam, eentring on an urgent issue. It brings together arehiteets, urban designers, theorists, students, developers, policy makers and politicians from the Netherlands and abroad and presents their work to the publie at large. The IABR difTers from other biennales in that the Rotterdam biennale does not simply presen exhibitions, but also conducts research, sets agenda, takes political stands, and in the proceess works primarily with a young generation o arehiteets. The Rotterdam-based Berlage Institute - eurator of the third biennale - is an international postgraduate laboratory for edueation, research and development in the fields of architecture. urbanism and landseape arehiteeture. Its programme is devoted to develop new architectural knowledge and it wants to bridge academic research with professional praetice. The New Dutch City ln our fast-globalizing world, internationaI I petition is increasingly a battle of cities: tha where the money is made, where physical a digital networks link up, where culture flow ishes and science grows. Everywhere, including in the Netherlands. The competitive position of Dutch cities in gl al and the Randstad in particuiar, however, under a lot of pressure. The fact that Asian gers' like Beijing and Shanghai have overtal the Randstad in recent years does not come a surprise. But closer to home, Greater Lom the Ruhr Area, the Flemish Diamond and th Paris Region are all performing better as well. So, whaťs up? Its spatial structure of close-set cities and villages separated by a patchwork of green mal the Randstad unique in the world. Actually, it is a single city with severaI centres - which is exactly how it is used by the majority of its inhabitants. But the Randstad is now rapidly losing these features. The road Strana 2 z 10 system is congested, railway lines are overtaxed, travelling times are rocketing. Recent decades saw the total fragmentation I disintegration of the Green Heart, with festering industrial areas along motorways blocking th traveller's view of whaťs left. The Randstad is losing its appeal as a place to live and work. Scale Increase Ir recent trends persist, the Randstad will soon be a continuous urban body - one that do es not. However, function like a metropolis and is noť run like one either. For the mobility networks and landscape structures required ror a wellrun Randstad cross traditional city limits and province borders. To turn the negative tide and revitalize the Randstad, the Netherlands has to think, design and govern on a higher scale level. The administrative collaboration required to provide ror the Randstaďs ruture is now being realized in the North Wing Programme (Amsterdam, Almere, Utrecht and Schiphol) and the South Wing Administrative Platrorm (The Hague, Delft and Rotterdam). North-South The North Wing and South Wing organizations are developing integral views on, and projects ror, a ruture Randstad. But each at the other end or the field: a somewhat bloodless Green Heart lert in the middle. Administratively speaking, scale increase appears to be limited, too. The approaches or each or the Randstad Wings reveal traditional cultural differences between Amsterdam and Rotterdam: dreams versus deeds and culture versus inrrastructure. Their plans will be influential, certainly, but as yet they are little known. To racilitate public discussion, The New Dutch City exhibition presents them side by side. And asks: 'Is this the city we want?' North Wing Both economically and demographically, the North Wing represents the ras test growing part or the Netherlands. About a third or the Dutch population lives and works in this area. Schiphol, stilI one of the worlďs major airports now mainly continues to grow because of an in creasing number of transfer flights. Amsterdam would like to persuade these transients to stick around for a while. The Destination AMS plan is primarily focused on the imago of Amsterdam as a centre of culture and international trade and a city of glorious tradition and ongoing rejuvenation. Twenty artists were commission to portray what Amsterdam was. is and. last b not least, could be. Trump card of the nearby 'new city' of Almere is its scenic location between a vast coastal st and green polder lands. The exhibition includes the design Mecanoo architect Francine Houben created for a Randstad City Beach south of Almere. In addition. plans for the realization of 20.000 dwellings in the Haarlemmermeer and the development of both North Sea Canal banks are on view. South Wing The Randstad South Wing consists of a web of cities villages and infrastructure. The South Wing projects that are part of the New Dutch ( City exhibition are based on this cobweb struc ture. The City Link project covers the existing infrastructure in a fine-meshed and frequen public transport system. Local tram and metro networks connect with it and thus revitalize, for instance, old industrial sites like Binckhorst ( in The Hague, for which OMA drew up plans Rotterdam, like The Hague, focuses on incre sing the density of the existing city, with a plan to realize 56.000 dwellings within the ring road plus a tribute to the rising Rotterdam skyline. And when the cities remain within their boundaries and the trafik infrastructure remains within its own limits, perhaps space wll be created for the plan by landscape architect Adriaan Geuze

5 Six Canonical Projects by Rem Koolhaas has been part of the international avant-garde since the nineteen-seventies and has been named the Pritzker Rem Koolhaas Architecture Prize for the year 2000. This book, which builds on six canonical projects, traces the discursive practice analyse behind the design methods used by Koolhaas and his office + OMA. It uncovers recurring key themes—such as wall, void, tur montage, trajectory, infrastructure, and shape—that have tek structured this design discourse over the span of Koolhaas’s Essays on the History of Ideas oeuvre. The book moves beyond the six core pieces, as well: It explores how these identified thematic design principles archi manifest in other works by Koolhaas as both practical re- Ingrid Böck applications and further elaborations. In addition to Koolhaas’s individual genius, these textual and material layers are accounted for shaping the very context of his work’s relevance. By comparing the design principles with relevant concepts from the architectural Zeitgeist in which OMA has operated, the study moves beyond its specific subject—Rem Koolhaas—and provides novel insight into the broader history of architectural ideas. Ingrid Böck is a researcher at the Institute of Architectural Theory, Art History and Cultural Studies at the Graz Ingrid Böck University of Technology, Austria. “Despite the prominence and notoriety of Rem Koolhaas … there is not a single piece of scholarly writing coming close to the … length, to the intensity, or to the methodological rigor found in the manuscript

  • Museum and Center for Contemporary Art: Design Principles and Functional Features
E3S Web of Conferences 274, 01019 (2021) https://doi.org/10.1051/e3sconf/202127401019 STCCE – 2021 Museum and center for contemporary art: design principles and functional features Elza Bashirova1[0000-0002-0346-1713], Elena Denisenko1[0000-0002-3155-2153], Kamilla Akhmetova1, and Vilnur Kadirov1 1Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering, 420043 Kazan, Russia Abstract. The article discusses the topical issue of the establishment of museum and center for contemporary art. The objective of the research is to analyze the historical background of contemporary art museums; to review the world design practice of them according to urban planning, functional, architectural and expositional criteria; to reveal functional features’ trends and to identify the design principles of an advanced center for contemporary art. We collected more than 45 leading examples to compile a matrix using classification and analysis methods. As a result, we reached the museums’ functional features: administrative, exhibition, educational, recreational are fixed functions; storage and research functions are optional; cultural and entertainment are particularly additional functions. At first, art museums and centers are focused on adaption to visitors and intersection with them, secondly, on the exhibit. To sum up, we define the design principles of the ideal architectural model on the basis of urban planning, architectural, sociocultural and technological radicals. In conclusion, it is revealed that contemporary art centers have absorbed most of the historical functions of the museum and today are one of the developed types of the multifunctional architecture. Keywords. Architecture, center for contemporary art, museum, contemporary art, design principles, functional features. 1 Introduction Contemporary art, that was formed by the end of the Second World War and has been changing its appearance up to the present time, has become an integral part of the social and cultural life of a person.

  • The Diagram As a Vehicle of Transposition in the Quest of Architectural Form: Program | Typology | Drawing
Yannis Zavoleas The Diagram as a Vehicle of Transposition in the Quest of Architectural Form: Program | Typology | Drawing Yannis Zavoleas Architect, Assistant Professor Department of Architecture, Technical University of Crete Chania, Greece [email protected] #154 PAPER #C2#5 Yannis Zavoleas The Diagram as a Vehicle of Transposition in the Quest of Architectural Form: Program | Typology | Drawing Abstract This paper discusses the impact of diagrammatic processes into architectural design. The dia- gram may be related to its scientific origin as a means of analysis and comparison of data. In accordance with diagrammatic interpretations of Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon, also with Gilles Deleuze’s notion of “abstract machine,” the diagram operates in architecture as a means express- ing the dynamic relationships among different elements having spatial significance. With the use of diagrams, abstract information of analysis is transposed into architectural design by using codes of spatial definition. The diagram may thus be distinguished from architectural form, as the connection between them remains metaphorical. From a theoretical point, such an explanation of the diagram is illuminating, also tying up with computational practices using advanced CAD software; however, ambiguities may be raised due to the fact that, in practice, essential issues regarding the diagram’s overall functionality are often being disregarded. For example: under what conditions might it be useful arguing that the diagram has no relationship whatsoever with a sketch drawing of an architectural idea? Or, upon the assumption that the diagram is a tool aiding the conceptual manipulation of data and besides any of its representational capabilities, how would it be beneficial denying its direct or indirect contribution as a harbinger to architectural synthesis? In response, this paper redeploys the applications of the diagram in the transition from abstract notions to the first graphic sign and the gradual development of an architectural project.

  • Rem Koolhaas 2000 Laureate Biography
Rem Koolhaas 2000 Laureate Biography His writing gained him recognition as a visionary early in his career; later the combination of architecture, urban planning, research and writing solidified Rem Koolhaas’ reputation. However with many major projects completed, it is not that easy to recognize an identifiable style. He considers that a compliment because working in so many different environments and under so many different conditions, the finished work must be different too. He’s been called a modernist by some, and a deconstructivist by others, but he really defies categorization. Rem Koolhaas was born in Rotterdam in 1944. By the time he was eight years old, his father who was a writer, theatre critic and director of a film school, was invited by the government of Indonesia to become their cultural director, so Rem spent four years growing up in an exotic environment, before moving back to the Netherlands. He began his career as a journalist with Haagse Post in The Hague, and later tried his hand at screen writing both in the Netherlands and Hollywood. He had a script produced by Dutch director Rene Daalder, which he describes as an allegory using images from B movies as a commentary on contemporary Europe. By 1968, he attended the Architecture Association School in London. In 1972, he received a Harkness Fellowship for research in the United States. He studied with O.M. Ungers at Cornell University for a year, and then became a visiting Fellow at the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York. It was while in New York that he wrote Delirious New York self-described as a “retroactive manifesto for Manhattan”.
