Newman Professor of Law, New York Law School Professionals generally learn their craft from those who have gone before them. Lawyers are initially trained by law professors, and then apprentice themselves to more experienced attorneys in practice. Critical professional skills are often acquired, improved and polished while on the job. But for some skills, lawyers can benefit considerably from looking outside the confines of the legal profession.
