This will work for background filler characters, but when some of your main characters are still close to mysteries when the story ends, the reader is left sadly unfulfilled. The primary characters are Mischa a young thief with telepathic abilities, trapped by her exceptionally dysfunctional family , Jan Hikaru more of an observer , and Subtwo part of a behavorial experienced, he has been twinned with an unrelated "pseudosib" Subone, who is presented as more a collection of stereotypical behaviors. This was a crucial insight for Diaspora Judaism, those living in Babylon, Egypt, or elsewhere, deprived of their former institutions. Slavery is a big theme in this novel but even the top citizens of the world seem to be stuck in a less than stellar environment.

  • Neville Brothers -- the first Family of New Orleans Music -- Has Vowed Not to Return to New Orleans
Dec. 15, 2005-- Cyril Neville boarded Amtrak's City of New Orleans train with a full head of steam. He joined singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie earlier this month for the first leg of a 12-day journey from Chicago to New Orleans, playing concerts along the way to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Neville, however, won't be on the train when it rolls into his old hometown. He won't be going home at all. Neville, 56, percussionist-vocalist and youngest member of the Neville Brothers -- the first family of New Orleans music -- has vowed not to return to New Orleans. During a heartfelt conversation before embarking on the train journey, Neville explained he and his wife, Gaynielle, have bought a home in Austin, Texas. Cyril Neville joins his nephew Ivan Neville, as well as the Radiators and the Iguanas as popular New Orleans acts who have settled in Austin. Some even perform in an ad hoc band known as the Texiles. They sing a different song about the promised recovery of New Orleans. "Would I go back to live?" Neville asked. "There's nothing there. And the situation for musicians was a joke. People thought there was a New Orleans music scene -- there wasn't. You worked two times a year: Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. The only musicians I knew who made a living playing music in New Orleans were Kermit Ruffins and Pete Fountain. Everyone else had to have a day job or go on tour. I have worked more in two months in Austin than I worked in two years in New Orleans.

An essential recording! TOM WAITS Bad As Me USA Gravelly-voiced poet and musical maverick Tom Waits returns with this strong batch of rocking blues stompers and tender ballads, joined by the likes of Keith Richards, Marc Ribot and David Hidalgo. Beginning with a train journey north to Chicago and ending in a bar on New Year’s eve (singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ no less) this is a trip worth taking. Highly recommended! KIRAN AHLUWALIA Aam Zameen: Common Ground Canada Indo-Canadian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia, known for her beautifully updated Ghazal music, this time does some continent hopping as she collaborates with desert blues sensations Tinariwen and Terakaft. • Automatic Recognition of Samples in Musical Audio
Automatic Recognition of Samples in Musical Audio Jan Van Balen MASTER THESIS UPF / 2011 Master in Sound and Music Computing. Supervisors: PhD Joan Serr`a,MSc. Martin Haro Department of Information and Communication Technologies Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona Acknowledgement I wish to thank my supervisors Joan Serr`aand Martin Haro for their priceless guidance, time and expertise. I would also like to thank Perfecto Herrera for his very helpful feedback, my family and classmates for their support and insightful remarks, and the many friends who were there to provide me with an excessive collection of sampled music. Finally I would like to thank Xavier Serra and the Music Technology Group for making all this possible by accepting me to the master. Abstract Sampling can be described as the reuse of a fragment of another artist's recording in a new musical work. This project aims at developing an algorithm that, given a database of candidate recordings, can detect samples of these in a given query. The problem of sample identification as a music information retrieval task has not been addressed before, it is therefore first defined and situated in the broader context of sampling as a musical phenomenon. The most relevant research to date is brought together and critically reviewed in terms of the requirements that a sample recognition system must meet. The assembly of a ground truth database for evaluation was also part of the work and restricted to hip hop songs, the first and most famous genre to be built on samples. Techniques from audio fingerprinting, remix recognition and cover detection, amongst other research, were used to build a number of systems investigating different strategies for sample recognition.
