Oil and acrylic on canvas. The two paintings above portray a young man in two different situations one public and one private. In the first case he is celebrating Israel’s Independence Day1, and in the other he is celebrating his Bar Mitzvah2. In the former, the protagonist seems out of place, simply holding an Israeli flag with a lost look on his face, while all around him garlands representing Israel’s national colors, fighting soldiers and a tank hang above his head, symbolizing the festive atmosphere. On the background there are different themes representing each one something Israeli: the sea, an urban and a rural landscape and a reference to the star of David. Even in a completely secular context, such as Independence Day (Yom Ha'atzmaut in Hebrew), there is a reference to religion given by the kippah the boy is wearing, albeit in 1(in Hebrew Yom Ha'atzmaut) Day commemorating the Israeli Declaration of Independence, announced on the 5th of the Jewish month of Iyar, in 1948 (14 May 1948). The day is marked with a series of official and unofficial celebrations and ceremonies and plays a significant role in the creation of Israeli national identity.

Hard boil eggs, cool and peel them. Peel apples and remove the core. Cut vegetables, pickles, apples, and eggs into small squares. Chop green onions and strain peas. Add salt, pepper, and stir in mayonnaise and mustard. Chop parsley and dill, and sprinkle over salad. Set aside for one hour. Decorate with mayonnaise, green peas, and carrots. The secret of good Polish vegetable salad is to have all the ingredients diced very fine, no larger than the size of a green pea. Polish Herring Salad ––– Sałatka Śledziowa Ingredients: 1 jar marinated herring (with onions) 2 apples, core removed, peeled and diced 2 onions, chopped 4 cucumbers in brine, chopped 1/2 cup mayonnaise 1/2 cup sour cream 2 tablespoons mustard Preparation: Take out marinated herrings from a jar and drain. Discard jar with onions and spices inside. Dice herrings and place in a salad bowl. Add apples, onions, and pickles. Toss gently and fold in the Creamy Mustard Sauce (fork-blend mayonnaise with sour cream and mustard). Chill for 2 hours before serving.     Religion and the Forgiving Personality Michael E. McCullough National Institute for Healthcare Research Everett L. Worthington, Jr. Virginia Commonwealth University ABSTRACT Forgiveness is a concept with deep religious roots. It is also a basic social and psychological phenomenon. In this article, we explore the links between forgiveness and religion by surveying how they are linked in the major monotheistic world religions, and how they appear to be linked empirically. In attempting to account for the current body of empirical findings, we propose four potential substantive and methodological explanations that should be explored in future studies. Because the concept of forgiveness is (a) both spiritual and social-psychological in nature, and (b) possibly linked to some measures of human health and well-being (concerns that have traditionally been of interest to both researchers in personality and researchers in religion), the concept of forgiveness could be an important common ground for future research on the interface of religion and personality. The concept of forgiveness has dual natures: a common one and a transcendent one. In the common, material world, forgiveness is just one more social-psychological phenomenon. I always knew that a couple of hours after I sent him a chapter, there would be a detailed, careful, thoughtful, constructive, and critical (when needed) reaction to it waiting in my inbox. This awareness has made the process of writing a dissertation much less frustrating then it could have been. The Heletz Fire Lookout Tower in the arid, northern Negev is one of forty fire lookouts built by KKL-JNF throughout Israel as part of its comprehensive fire prevention system to protect forests and open spaces. The Heletz Fire Lookout Tower is located about 10 km northwest of the city of Sderot, which for years has been the target of rocket and mortar attacks from the nearby Gaza Strip. The 12-meter-high watchtower is situated on a hill, 145 meters above sea level. It overlooks the planted forests of Yad Mordechai, Dorot, Plugot, Karmia, and Gvar'am and serves to protect the area's extensive agricultural fields. The lookout tower, made of galvanized steel pipes, was constructed more than a quarter of century ago, and with the ravages of time had been in need of repairs that were carried out by KKL-JNF. The Heletz Lookout Tower is manned during the summer months, from April to November, and has proven effective in reducing the number of forest fires in this vulnerable region. It 5220# affords a panoramic view of about 20 km, from Kiryat Gat in the east to the Ashkelon seacoast in the west, and beneath the tower, which covers an area of 100 meters, is a forest grove with a picnic and recreation area, making the Heletz Lookout Tower an inviting site for visitors. Project components for the repair of the Heletz Fire Lookout Tower included replacing windows, raising the railings, installing a safety net around the staircase, reinforcing the staircase, and replacing rusted steel surfaces.
