Press Release 28.07.2016/Pa, W 10 Wiesn Experience for Disabled Visitors Guests with disabilities are cordially welcome at the Oktoberfest. In order to remove barriers – the physical ones as well as those in the minds of people – the City of Munich has taken appropriate measures in consultation with the Disabled Persons Advisory Committee. Disabled Parking A total of 65 parking places for disabled persons have been established along Uhland-, Rückert-, Bavaria- and Mozartstraße. No disabled parking is available in the southern part of Theresienwiese this year, since the Central Agricultural Festival takes place in this secion. Travel to the Wiesn by Subway and Suburban Train All subway stations in the Wiesn area (Goetheplatz, Theresienwiese, Schwanthalerhöhe, Poccistrasse and Heimeranplatz) and the suburban train station at Hackerbrücke are equipped with elevators which are suitable for wheelchair users. Such places must remain available to wheelchair users and accompanying persons without special reservation until 5pm on weekdays and until 2pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. After those times the places in the festival tents may only be reserved for wheelchair users and accompanying persons. We recommend advance reservation with the festival landlords. Please note: In case the tents are closed due to overcrowding, only guests with a valid reservation will be admitted; this also applies to wheelchair users. By Wheelchair into the Oktoberfest Ferris Wheel The Munich Oktoberfest offers a special attraction for disabled visitors. Last year the great Ferris wheel, landmark of the Munich Wiesn, was equipped with a ramp suitable for wheelchair users. People using walkers or wheelchairs are now able to enter and exit one of the two wheelchair- accessible gondolas all on their own. Showmen The Oktoberfest showmen are happy to provide help within the framework of their possibilities and to accommodate the wishes of disabled persons. Visitors with disabilities are welcome to join in the Oktoberfest fun. Toilets for Wheelchair Users and People with Limited Mobility 31 toilets suitable for wheelchair users and others with limited mobility are located in the Theresienwiese service center, at the Theresienwiese subway station, at the Wiesn entrance at Esperantoplatz/Matthias-Pschorr- Strasse, as well as in all festival halls and the midsize catering operations Page 2 “Zur Bratwurst” (Matthias-Pschorr-Str. 59), “Wildstuben” (Matthias-Pschorr- Str. 56), “Bodo's Cafezelt” (street 2/ Nr. 6), Hühnerbraterei Ammer (Wirtsbudenstraße 78), “Goldener Hahn” (Wirtsbudenstraße 77), Hühner- und Entenbraterei Poschner (Wirtsbudenstraße 57), “Zum Stiftl” (Wirtsbudenstraße 26) and adjacent to the “Glöckle-Wirt” (Wirtsbudenstr. 27). All toilets for disabled persons in the festival tents fulfill the requirements set down in DIN 18024 part 2. Wheelchair Service The Bavarian Red Cross provides two wheelchairs each in the baggage rooms at the Theresienwiese subway station and at Esperantoplatz: The wheelchairs are provided free of charge and can be picked up and returned at the respective baggage room. This service is available to any guest with mobility challenges. Guided Wiesn Tours Individual tours for groups of disabled visitors is a special service offered at the Oktoberfest. Subsequent to registration (www.universum- oktoberfest.de), kids and adults with disabilities can amuse themselves to their hearts’ content.
