    CISAC pays tribute to its President Robin Gibb, the voice of a generation and relentless champion for the rights of creators CISAC, the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers, has expressed its deep sadness at the news that its President, British singer and songwriter Robin Gibb, has passed away. PARIS – 21/05/2012 – Robin Gibb died in the night of Sunday 20 May 2012, at the age of 62, after fighting a long-term illness. Alongside his brothers Barry and Maurice, performing as The Bee Gees, he was part of one of the most successful songwriting teams in the history of pop music. As President of CISAC for the past five years, Robin Gibb was also the tireless voice of three million creators around the world as the leader of the members of CISAC’s 232 authors’ societies in 121 countries. He enthusiastically used his position as President of the organisation and as one of the world’s most popular songwriters to persuade global policy makers to support creators and promote and uphold the value of copyright. Following a first term as president, Gibb was unanimously re-elected for an additional three- year mandate in June 2010. At the time, Gibb said, “The presidency of CISAC is a role that means a great deal to me because, as a songwriter, I am a passionate believer in the collective management of rights by authors' societies. While the entire entertainment sector is at a crossroads, I want to leverage this new mandate to help develop a management rights system that is sustainable in the digital age, a system that meets public demand for easy access to all our works while preserving the rights and interests of everyone, including fair payment for creators to use their works." Paying tribute to Gibb, French painter and CISAC Vice-President Hervé Di Rosa said, “The spirit of Robin Gibb’s commitment and passion towards the authors’ cause will stay alive in us all.

This study traces the expansion of the srdc scheme from its compact deployment in strophes to expanded iterations that approximate verse- chorus form. Received February 2011 [1] This article examines an episode in the evolution of verse-chorus form in pop/rock music. Until the mid-1960s, most verse-chorus songs alternated between the two formal sections from which verse-chorus form takes its name: verses and choruses. Example 1, Mark Dinning’s “Teen Angel,” illustrates the form.(2) As is typical for verse-chorus songs, the focal point of “Teen Angel” is the chorus: it contains the most engaging musical material; its unchanging lyric makes it easy to remember; and it is marked for special attention by additional vocal and instrumental parts. The verses, on the other hand, provide context: each verse advances the song narrative by presenting fresh lyrics; and the music is more modest in instrumentation and intensity so as not to steal attention from the chorus. In “Teen Angel,” the tempo is treated flexibly during the verses, which further distinguishes them from the choruses.

    Housing Desegregation in the Era of Deregulation Christopher Bonastia hen Jimmy Carter was sworn into the nation’s highest office on January 20, 1977, Civil Rights supporters mustered some hope. In “The State of Black WAmerica—1977,” the Urban League reflected this tempered optimism: After eight years of a national Administration that blacks—rightly or wrongly—regarded as hostile to their needs and aspirations, they now feel that 1977 might bring a change in direction and that possibly the same type of moral leadership that led the nation to accept the legiti- macy of black demands for equality during the 60s, might once again be present in Washington.1 While 94 percent of Black voters supported Carter, the intensity with which the administration would address issues of racial inequality was unclear. As Hugh Davis Graham notes, Carter “stepped into a policy stream that since the late 1960s had carried two conflicting currents”: the “white backlash” politics ex- emplified by Nixon’s “Southern strategy,” and “the quiet mobilization of a com- prehensive regime of civil rights regulation. By the mid-1970s, the expanded civil rights coalition, under the adept coordination of the Leadership Confer- ence on Civil Rights, had won bipartisan respect in Congress for its ability to mobilize constituency group support.” However, Civil Rights gains tended to come in “complex areas little understood by the general public, such as employee testing and minority hiring tables,” rather than in high-profile issues such as housing desegregation.2 While housing had ranked high on Carter’s list of legislative priorities, his focus was on bolstering construction, home ownership, public housing, and rent subsidies rather than fair-housing issues.3 Ironically, fair-housing proponents would have been pleased if HUD’s commitment to desegregation under Carter Christopher Bonastia is a professor of sociology at Lehman College and the City University of New York Graduate Center and the associate director of honors programs at Lehman College.
