Carolyn Turns to the Door and Stands in the Front of the Weeping Angel Carolyn turns to the door and stands in the front of the weeping angel. CAROLYN How... In slow motion it’s shown, that she blinks and disappears. The grinning angel is now alone in the kitchen with still outstretched hand. EXT. THE TRAFALGAR SQUARE (1973) Carolyn appears in the middle of the famous Trafalgar Squares in London. Some pedestrians are frozen in shock. They stare at the woman surprised. CAROLYN How ... how I got here? (touches on her throbbing head) Carolyn turns around and sees the monument. CAROLYN I think I'm no longer in my kitchen … (faints) The pedestrians crowd around the woman. Sirens sound and a black car comes. Three men dressed in black get out and pave a way through the crowd. ANTHONY Stand back! Torchwood London assumes now! (shows the people his mark) While Agent Anthony calmed the people, the two other men grab Carolyn and carry her to the car. A man steps out of the crowd and spoke to the agent. PETER Excuse me, I'm Peter Cort – a reporter from the London Times. I have witnessed random as this lady has suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Would you like to say something about it? (takes out block and block) ANTHONY I do not know what you mean, Mr. … Cox? (knocks with a smile on his shoulder and hits the road to the car) PETER Cort! (shouts and hurries after him) This time you cannot sweep it under the table. I have witnesses! ANTHONY (stops and turns to face him) Oh, really? Are you sure about that? (raises an eyebrow) PETER Of course ... Peter Cort turns around and sees that the crowd is gone. PETER (CON’T) But ... how did you do that? They were standing there! He turns around and points to the place where the people stood. ANTHONY (puts a hand on his shoulder) Go home. Put your feet up. And forget it. Torchwood cares about it. Agent Anthony gets clam in the car, while Peter is left confused. INT. THE CAR/ EXT. THE STREETS OF LONDON (1973) The car drives away. Carolyn is sitting back still powerless between the two men. Anthony drives the car and looks through the rearview mirror to Carolyn, which is now coming to herself. CAROLYN (looks disoriented up) Oh, my head. Where I am? ANTHONY This is because of the time jump. You will get well soon and… (briefly looks over his shoulder and gives her a smile) … you are currently in the custody of Torchwood London. Do you know what year it is? CAROLYN (realizes that she sits sandwiched between two giants in a car) What are you talking? Have you kidnapped me to ask me such senseless questions? (scrutinize the men) AGENT 1 Reply to his question and you'll be fine! CAROLYN Okay okay ... Calm down! It's 2013! (crosses her arms) ANTHONY No, it's 1973. Welcome in the past! Carolyn looks incredulously at the men. INT. THE TARDIS The doctor runs excitedly around the control panel of the TARDIS, while he mumbles Beccas name. He stops in front of the screen. DOCTOR You have to be somewhere! Why did not I find you? (suggests frustrated against the screen) Ah ... Becca's location will be displayed. DOCTOR (CON’T) You have been so shielded. Let's see who’s behind it. The doctor types in something and makes big eyes as something with a beeping appears on his screen. DOCTOR Oh no … INT. TORCHWOOD INSTITUTE LONDON (1973) Becca sitting silently with his arms crossed in front of a woman in the interrogation room of the TORCHWOOD Institute. Both stare at each other. Suddenly Agent 1 enters the room with Carolyn, who he holds roughly by the arm. AGENT 1 Another traveler! He releases Carolyn and pushes her into the room. Then he disappears after the woman nods again. Becca jumps up from her chair. BECCA Mom, what are you doing here? Her mother hugs her daughter happy and kisses her on the forehead. CAROLYN I do not know, sweetheart. (shakes her head) I can just remember about how I was in the kitchen and then I was suddenly in a car full of psychos, which spoke of time warps and a strange institute! The woman, who had now risen, hawks. CHELSE Might I ask you to sit down? She pointed to the chairs, which stood across the table from her. Then I could answer all your questions. She smiled at the two and sat on her chair. Becca and Carolyn look at the woman suspiciously. .

Her face: fascinated, loving this creepy old place. Takes another photograph. CUT TO: INT. WESTER DRUMLINS HOUSE. CONSERVATORY ROOM - NIGHT In the conservatory now - the windows looking out on a darkened garden. And a patch of rotting wallpaper catches SALLY'S eye -- 2. High on the wall, just below the picture rail, a corner of wallpaper is peeling away, drooping mournfully down from the wall -- -- revealing writing on the plaster behind. Just two letters we can see - BE - the beginning of a word -- She reaches up on tiptoes and pulls at the hanging frond of wallpaper.

    “The Image as Eternal Life and Death: Uncanny visions in Doctor Who, Life on Mars and Harry Potter.” Elizabeth Kinder University of Newcastle The moving image or uncanny other as it appears in the episodes of the “new” Doctor Who (2005-) series that focus on “The Weeping Angels”, as well as the television series, Life on Mars (2006–2007) and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter sequence (1997–2007), provides a commentary on how the contemporary image functions in society. These works also examine how the image acts as a replication of the subject and potentially offers a form of eternal life, but only when an act of death occurs. This is achieved by attempting to see beyond the frame – whether that is the frame on a wall, the television screen, or the stone casing that holds an unseeable being – into a space where the uncanny lurks, a space we sometimes glimpse out of the corner of our eye. These replications (or “doubles”) of the original subject, whether they are presented as moving portraits or photographs, childhood memories come to life in an imagined world, or humanoid objects, such as statues that result in death the moment you look away, reflect a second self that exists in a space outside of time. What these works are exploring is the possibility that these images, via uncanny means, can escape the confines of their frames and re-enter the world of the viewer, recreating themselves into a physical existence. How then, does the image – as depicted in photography or film – become a double or replica of the subject and thus, become a “specular” reflection? André Bazin describes the photographic image as the object itself “freed from the conditions of time and space that govern it.

    Fall 2013: Doctor Who Party Eustis Memorial Library L. McLaughlin, Youth Services Librarian During SRP, I asked our teens what kind of events they would like to see at the library and I received one nearly-universal answer: a Doctor Who program. Our Doctor Who Party was held in September, and I’ve included pictures and details from the party which I hope will inspire or help you host a Whovian event at your library. This event was heavy on prep but was a big success for us, with our highest teen attendance to a program yet. Above: Our snacks and refreshments included Dalek cupcakes (Publix cupcakes with DIYed Dalek paper wraps) and apples with smiley faces carved into them. I built the Tardis (with a secret compartment), which doubled as a centerpiece atop popular YA titles with blue covers, as well as one of the costume prizes. Handouts for upcoming teen programs were made available. Right: We left half of the room open for Weeping Angel freeze tag, while the upper half (pictured) served as the activity/hang-out space. The Community Room walls were decorated with 11x17" Who quotes, and after the event, the teens took their favorite quotes as souvenirs. Craft Tables We had two crafts: DIY sonic screwdrivers, which thanks to prep beforehand only involvedfour steps before teens could get to the fun part of customizing their creations, and duct tape bow ties. We also provided simple alligator clips (available at any major craft store) for the teens who would rather wear their bows as a hair accessory.

Davies’s Doctor Who Jonathan Hay Abstract Via the analysis of a cross-section of episodes from Russell T. Davies’s era of the revived BBC Science Fiction television series Doctor Who (2005 – 2010), this paper demonstrates that the programme utilises representations of the viewer’s everyday lifeworld to figure a posthuman rhetoric. Through the viewer’s in-phenomenal interaction with its representation of the mundane, the show emphasises the already significantly posthuman nature of the technologically saturated lifeworld of the contemporary individual. It challenges Darko Suvin’s notion of cognitive estrangement, which fails to describe the show’s Science Fictional1 discourse, and instead proposes the alternate mechanism of cognitive engagement. This inquiry therefore reappraises the thematic concerns of the show during the years when Russell T. Davies served as the programme’s showrunner, revealing Doctor Who’s emphasis upon the everyday (post)human lifeworld. It concludes that the show refutes technocentric ideologies, and thus rigorously demonstrates the consonance between the (post)human present and posthuman future.
