We lend loans to women in rural and semi-urban areas in India to financiallysupport their businesses. Svatantra means 'freedom' in Hindi, and the key aim is to encourage entrepreneurship, self-sufficiency, financial literacy and inclusion. With Advaitesha and Neerja Birla Growing up, I saw a huge income gap in our country. There were so many people on the streets without food and then there were people like me, who were blessed with so much. I always wanted to do something to give back. But I didn't believe in completely giving back because it's not sustainable. People always value things more when there is a small cost attached to it. Microfinance seemed to fit that bill. What you are doing is giving small loans to women with GUARANTEED existing businesses.
