Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are related religions complete with all the problems relatives experience: closeness, yes – but also misunderstandings, competition, spats, feuds, and the need to mend fences. This series of talks presents a primer on the three religions, showing how they interrelate in important basics, but also how they offer separate, distinctive, and sometimes opposing ways of approaching the divine. 16 July 22, 2018 Human Concerns Holy Family Parishioners Attend St. Sabina End of School Year Rally and Peace March, June 15 Holy Family was represented at St. Sabina’s Peace Rally and March on June 15th. Twenty-five parishioners took part in the rally and march and listened to powerful messages of peace building by inspiring young adults. Here are some comments from the Holy Family partici- pants: “The wide range of capabilities that the young people have to use to affect the changes our society so desperately needs.” “I really appreciated being there with like minded people who are interested in peace and showing by actions that we are willing to act.” “Such a positive evening with the youth from Parkland, Fla. and other parts of the country joining their voices against gun violence. St. Sabina is offering real leadership to the South Side and beyond. It was in- spiring to be part of this evening.” “I really enjoyed the Rally and especially the passion regarding the importance of being an informed voter.” “The most moving to me was the 4 girls with the shocking sta- tistics of over 1,000 shootings so far this year. Then reading the names of 147 young people (all under 25) killed by gun violence so far this year. I cannot fathom the heartbreak of those 147 families.” “May the plea for peace rise up and touch the heart of everyone so that they may lay down their weapons and let themselves be led by the desire for peace.” Pope Francis Yes, it’s Back to School soon! Last year Holy Family, through your overwhelming support and generous donations, was able to give 140 underprivileged children a head start with new backpacks filled with basic school supplies. This year, 190 children, kindergarten through college, from Catholic Charities, St. Mary’s Services, The Peace Corner and Wings, need our assistance. Please consider supporting at least one child by selecting a tag in the Narthex. Each tag represents a child ready to learn who needs our help. Backpacks are due July 23 and should be placed in the Chapel hallway. If you have any questions, please contact Barb Stec, [email protected]. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
