Please feel free to call Larry at 715-878-4835 or email us at [email protected] if you have any questions. You will also find a more complete list of events in the Events Listing in the Newsletter. If anyone has any additional events that you would like to share with the club then please let us know so that we can pass them along. ________________________________________________________________________________ Classic Cars For Cancer - Friday, July 26th - 5:30 pm (Message from the American Cancer Society) Dear Classic/Vintage Car Owners, Below are instructions to participate in the Relay For Life Event of Chippewa County. Our theme this year is “100th Year Jubilee” and we invite all those who have vintage cars to show them this year as a feature in our event. This year your American Cancer Society celebrates its 100th year anniversary and we ask you to share this special time with us. With the help and support from people like you we are able to celebrate this momentous event. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event is scheduled for Friday July 26th at the Chippewa Falls Middle School. If you accept our invitation to participate, please arrive by 5:30pm. The best way to arrive is from Mansfield Street or west on Elm Street and then left on Tropicana Street. Vehicles will gather in the north parking lot of the middle school. To help Start off our Relay For Life Event we would be honored if the cars would make the opening lap at 6:00pm. This is a small lap which goes through the parking lot immediately in front of the school and circles around a portion of Tropicana which will be close for the event. Following the lap, you may return to your parking area in the north parking lot and stay as long as you wish. If there are any convertible owners we have special people at our event who would enjoy a ride for the opening lap. Our team members, volunteers, and guests would love to look at your cars and take some pictures if you would allow. ________________________________________________________________________________ CVVC Backroads Cruise to Lark Toys in Kellogg, MN - Sunday, August 11th - Cruise departs Ken Vance VW at 10:30 am This will be a backroads cruise to Kellogg, MN which is the home of Lark Toys. Lark Toys has been named one of the 10 coolest toy stores in the world by Readers Digest according to their website. The carousel at LARK Toys is unlike any other carousel in the world. Hand-carved from basswood and designed with exquisite detail, each animal is a rideable work of art. The carousel was also hand painted by former CVVC club member, Mary Eversman who recently just passed away. Many of you will remember Mary's famous Tye-Die Beetle which she painted herself. We understand that there is now a large wood cutout photo prop of her Tye-Die Beetle at Lark for kids young and old to have their picture taken with and a tribute article next to it. Our club has taken cruises to Lark Toys in the past but we thought that it would be great to go back and check out this fun tribute to Mary. We hope that you can all make it. ________________________________________________________________________________ More CVVC events such as Chippewa Falls Oktoberfest, Ridgeland Parade and our annual Fall Cruise are in the future for Fall. See the Events Listing in the Newsletter. ________________________________________________________________________________ REMINDER: Club Memberships were due in June. If you have not paid your annual dues then you will soon stop receiving the Newsletter. We really do not want to see you leave and hope that you choose to continue your VW passion with us. CVVC NEWS LETTER Issue #93 - July 2013 THANK YOU, We're Happy! Greetings and welcome to the after show issue of the C.V.V.C. newsletter that we send to not only the C.V.V.C. members but we also send it to all of the people that entered and participated in our annual VW show. This is our way to say Thank You to everyone for participating and helping us to enjoy a great day of VW fun. We hope that you enjoyed every minute of it. This year we had a fabulous Friday night cruise and cookout. Not only did we have a whopping 40 cars in our cruise but we also enjoyed a good number of people who participated in the cookout. We thank everyone that participated and we also want to thank all of the people that donated money for the American Cancer Society. Your generosity helped us earn $575 that went to the local chapter of that organization. All of you that donated, touched our hearts with your generous contributions. We also want to thank everyone that donated items to be used for the silent auction and those of you that placed auction bids. Cancer is taking lives every minute and we are proud that our show and all of you were able to help in this fight to find a cure. All of you that entered the show will be added to our mailing list so that you will receive details on next years event. Have a happy and save summer and a heart felt THANK YOU for being a part of our show. We hope to see you again next year on June 14, 2014! Sincerely, Larry and Carrie Simmons Friday Cruise & Cookout! Event Information Tickets Visitors Guide Charity Sponsors News & Media Gallery BEACH CARS STORM THE 2014 AMELIA CONCOURS d'ELEGANCE "For an event like 'The Amelia' a class of beach cars is appropriate and ideal," said Warner. "After all, when you take a break from the concours field and sit on the veranda at the Ritz-Carlton with a cool drink in front of you, you stare at the ocean and the beach. I just wish we could find a way to make the beach part of the concours field just this once." During the La Dolce Vita epoch, the ultimate European playboy's car was neither a Maserati nor a Ferrari. It arrived on sun splashed Mediterranean beaches long before Lamborghini cars existed. The playboy's choice for his prowls along the Med during those golden days was the "Jolly" beach car, usually based on Fiat's tiny 600. Photo courtesy of Hyman Ltd. Modified by Ghia, the mild mannered little Fiat 600 was the perfect platform for the Jolly's wicker seats and the fringed canvas top. As open as a speedboat, the Jollys were little land locked yacht tenders of the rich and, usually, famous. Fiat chairman Gianni Angelli drove one. Even the esteemed styling house of Pinin Farina created the Eden Rock beach car from the humble platform of Fiat's almost comical, forward-control Multipla people mover. "There was an entire industry built around creating custom bodies for the Fiat 600," said Bill Warner, Founder and Chairman of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, "The Jollys are the whimsical ones we remember.

People of the Beetle Generation sit up and take notice when they hear it today. They are strangely touched, experience melancholy, as though remembering something long since lost. It is a sound as unmistakable as the Beetle's silhouette: it buzzes, it putters - all against a background of soothing fan noises – a feeling of euphoria which has underscored our mobility for decades and which was the accompaniment for our independence and for growing prosperity during those years. Beginning in the late 1940's and continuing into the early 1980's, the unmistakable noise of the Beetle left its mark on the sound backdrop of German streets. And in other places, as well, the air-cooled Beetle Boxer was the lead instrument in the noisy traffic concert. This is why Volkswagen advertising from the Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB) agency at the end of the 1960's, advertising that is already legendary today, was titled „What the world loves about Germany"; it included a colorfully mixed collection of pictures: Heidelberg, a cuckoo clock, sauerkraut with dumplings, Goethe, a dachshund, the Lorelei – and a Beetle.
