Our theme this year is “100th Year Jubilee” and we invite all those who have vintage cars to show them this year as a feature in our event. This year your American Cancer Society celebrates its 100th year anniversary and we ask you to share this special time with us. With the help and support from people like you we are able to celebrate this momentous event. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event is scheduled for Friday July 26th at the Chippewa Falls Middle School. If you accept our invitation to participate, please arrive by 5:30pm. The best way to arrive is from Mansfield Street or west on Elm Street and then left on Tropicana Street. Vehicles will gather in the north parking lot of the middle school. To help Start off our Relay For Life Event we would be honored if the cars would make the opening lap at 6:00pm. This is a small lap which goes through the parking lot immediately in front of the school and circles around a portion of Tropicana which will be close for the event. Following the lap, you may return to your parking area in the north parking lot and stay as long as you wish. If there are any convertible owners we have special people at our event who would enjoy a ride for the opening lap. Our team members, volunteers, and guests would love to look at your cars and take some pictures if you would allow. ______CVVC Backroads Cruise to Lark Toys in Kellogg, MN - Sunday, August 11th - Cruise departs Ken Vance VW at 10:30 am This will be a backroads cruise to Kellogg, MN which is the home of Lark Toys. Lark Toys has been named one of the 10 coolest toy stores in the world by Readers Digest according to their website. The carousel at LARK Toys is unlike any other carousel in the world. Hand-carved from basswood and designed with exquisite detail, each animal is a rideable work of art. The carousel was also hand painted by former CVVC club member, Mary Eversman who recently just passed away. Many of you will remember Mary's famous Tye-Die Beetle which she painted herself. We understand that there is now a large wood cutout photo prop of her Tye-Die Beetle at Lark for kids young and old to have their picture taken with and a tribute article next to it. Our club has taken cruises to Lark Toys in the past but we thought that it would be great to go back and check out this fun tribute to Mary. We hope that you can all make it. ______

More CVVC events such as Chippewa Falls Oktoberfest, Ridgeland Parade and our annual Fall Cruise are in the future for Fall. See the Events Listing in the Newsletter. ______

This is our way to say Thank You to everyone for participating and helping us to enjoy a great day of VW fun. We hope that you enjoyed every minute of it. This year we had a fabulous Friday night cruise and cookout. Not only did we have a whopping 40 cars in our cruise but we also enjoyed a good number of people who participated in the cookout. We thank everyone that participated and we also want to thank all of the people that donated money for the American Cancer Society. Your generosity helped us earn $575 that went to the local chapter of that organization. All of you that donated, touched our hearts with your generous contributions. We also want to thank everyone that donated items to be used for the silent auction and those of you that placed auction bids. Cancer is taking lives every minute and we are proud that our show and all of you were able to help in this fight to find a cure. All of you that entered the show will be added to our mailing list so that you will receive details on next years event. Have a happy and save summer and a heart felt THANK YOU for being a part of our show. We hope to see you again next year on June 14, 2014! Sincerely, Larry and Carrie Simmons

Some things at the Bug-In turned out to be a bit different this year. The usual T-shirt and parts vendors were still on hand, and this was the second year that Dickie's Barbeque served pulled pork sandwiches, but the live musical entertainment was gone and Bruce Meyers, founder of the Dune Buggy, was on hand for a Q& A session. A few years back, he also made an appearance at the Funfest for Beetles down in Effingham, Illinois. As always, the assortment of VW models was quite eclectic with Beetles, Buses, Ghias, Dune Buggies (of course!) and even a couple of Things and Type IIIs. The water-cooled end of the spectrum included some Golfs, GTIs, Jettas, and Beetles. In both air-cooled and water Bruce Meyers, founder of the Meyers Manx Dune Buggy (above) cooled segments, some Volkswagens came bone stock while generously autographed t-shirts, photos & also the trophies for others were modified. Clubs in attendance were; The Das Edel Machinen (The Noble Machines) VW Club from southern Minnesota, their larger cousin, the Twin Cities VW Club, the Chippewa Valley VW Club and the Clear Water Dubs Club of Wisconsin. The event was such a success that we have already been contacted by Ed Stock of The Das Edel Machinen Club, asking us to join them this year for a fall cruise in their neck of the woods in south eastern Minnesota. No plans have been set as of yet but we wanted to let everyone know of the request and get a feel for how many would be willing to make a longer journey for a cruise hosted my our VW friends to the west. Please email us at [email protected] and let us know if you will be willing to make the longer journey this year.
