  • Meu Brasil Brasileiro, Meu Mulato…? Intermidialidade E Etnicidade Em Discursos Visuais Sobre a Mestiçagem Afro-Brasileira
Meu Brasil brasileiro, meu mulato…?

The samba of exaltation: Convergences and conflicts in the discursive construction of national identity Abstract The purpose of this article is to analyze how various social actors contributed to the process of nationalization of samba and its transformation in identity reference and discursive locus of Brazilianess. This musical genre was born regional, carioca, through negotiations, exchanges and interests between the hegemonic and subal- tern classes, but it gradually became a national-popular genre. Intellectuals such as Gilberto Freyre, the New State regime (1937-1945), the radio and the popular classes participated actively in the invention of samba as a Brazlilian cultural tradition.
