JOHN PARISH 4100 Watterson Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227 www.smsjparish.com THE CORNER | 3 NOVEMBER 10, 2019 Month of the Souls in Purgatory As we see the leaves fall, plants dying, dark coming sooner in the evening this Autumn we are reminded about death. We start the month thinking of the saints that have died and then on All Souls Day we remember those that have died. Although this seems grim, thinking about death helps us remember to pray for the dead. We have the key to help them get into heaven by praying for their souls. They need us to pray for them. It is hard to think about those who have died before us; those we miss so desperately sometimes. But what keeps them close to us is the need for us to stay close to them each day as we pray for them. Heavenly Father, in union with the merits of Jesus and Mary, I offer to You for the sake of the poor souls all the satisfactory value of my works during life, as well as all that will be done for me after death. I give You my all through the hands of the Immaculate Virgin Mary that she may set free whatever souls she pleases, according to her heavenly wisdom and mother’s love for them. Receive this offering, O God, and grant me in return an increase of Your grace. Amen. The Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner at St. Margaret-St. John is this Sunday, Nov. 10. Please note the correct time is from 3-7 PM in the SM-SJ cafeteria. The crowd is fun, the food is great and we get to come together as a region to support one of our parishes. Please bring your friends and family and join mefor this wonderful meal. Amen? Amen. Welcome Jackson Phillips, son of Jenna and Ryan Phillips! Jenna is Fr. Jacob’s cousin! Please keep the family in your prayers. 2-4 | ALL SAInts ParadE. This year we had another great turnout for the children’s All Saints Parade at the 10 AM Mass at St. Cecilia. Over 50 little ones dressed up as a special saint. We had a lot of different ones this year — like saints Philomena, Jude, Stephen and Veronica. I really want to thank the teachers and the parents for working so hard on these costumes and teaching the children about the saints! 5 | ParIshIonER on VacatIon. While celebrating her birthday in Las Vegas, St. Anthony parishioner Audrey Coaston- Shelton took time out to go to her previous parish (St. James) to 1 help pack bag lunches for the homeless. 6 | ItaLIan DInnER. I want to thank the Nora Shumrick and her family for cooking a delicious Italian dinner for the winner of the dinner with me at the St. Cecilia festival Bid-n-Buy. It was a great meal and the high bidders, the Au-Yeung family, were loads of fun. 7 | CongratULatIons!
