In samenwerking met drie Amerikaanse touroperators verzorgt de Curaçaose luchtvaartmaatschappij vluchten naar vier verschillende bestemmingen op Cuba (Havana, Santiago, Camaguey en Holguin). De drie touroperators mogen zelf niet vliegen op Cuba, zodat capaciteit werd ingehuurd. De overeenkomst geldt voor onbepaalde tijd. Momenteel worden zeven tot acht vluchten per dag uitgevoerd. Verder werd bekend gemaakt dat er aanvullende afspraken zijn gemaakt met KLM en de Amerikaanse luchtvaartmaatschappij Delta, zodat vluchten op elkaar aansluiten, en over en weer kunnen worden geboekt. Met het Braziliaanse GOL bestond al een dergelijke samenwerking. Verder zou gesproken worden met enkele Chinese maatschappijen. De verwachtingen voor dit jaar zijn hoog: Insel Air verwacht 1,4 miljoen passagiers te gaan vervoeren, vier bestemmingen aan het routenet toe te voegen en er komt een vlootuitbreiding met vier Fokker 70 die van de KLM werden overgenomen.     luchtvaartnieuws uit Suriname 2014-12-23 / Arno Landewers SLM nieuws De SLM kampte in juli met uitval van de Airbus A340, waarmee de route Paramaribo- Amsterdam wordt onderhouden. Half juli moest de machine in Paramaribo aan de grond worden gehouden wegens storing aan de brandstofindicatie. Na reparatie en tests bleken aanvullende reparaties noodzakelijk, pas vanaf 29 juli kon de machine weer worden ingezet. Er moesten vliegtuigen van Pullmantur Air, Air Titan en Euroatlantic worden gehuurd voor de vluchten naar Amsterdam. In september moest Air Titan weer worden ingeschakeld omdat de A340 niet beschikbaar was door regulier onderhoud in Parijs, ook viel een vlucht uit. Door een vrijwel tegelijkertijd optredende storing in een Boeing 737, en de inzet van een 737 voor het bezoek van President Bouterse aan Venezuela, vielen ook diverse regionale vluchten uit. In 2015 zal de Airbus A340 worden vervangen; het huurcontract met ILFC loop dan af. Momenteel zijn er onderhandelingen gaande met de Exim Bank of China voor de financiering van van een opvolger, naar verwachting een A330 of een Boeing 767. De SLM wil ook een tweede wide-body in gebruik nemen, om minder afhankelijk te zijn van ingehuurd materiaal in geval van uitval van een vliegtuig, en het uit te keren bedrag voor claims van passagiers te verlagen. Verder kondigde de SLM aan dat de samenwerking met de KLM zoals die nu bestaat gaat veranderen; mededingingsregels vereisen aanpassingen. Op korte termijn worden hierover mededelingen verwacht. In juli werd er een Open-Skies verdrag afgesloten tussen de Verenigde Staten en Suriname. Een Open- Skies overeenkomst biedt beide deelnemers de mogelijkheid met meerdere maatschappijen op onderlinge routes te vliegen, terwijl er garanties bestaan voor de daadwerkelijke uitvoer van de vluchten.
