By Lynn Armanino

Our first Candidates' Forum last month was a great success. I've rarely seen candidates speak within their allotted time but that's what happened. Thanks to Nickie Diersen and her time keeper, Linda Schlinger, we stayed on target and even had time left over to briefly hear from the extra dozen or so candidates who attended. We will be hosting another Candidates' Forum in May so we can listen to more candidates who were unable to attend this first forum. What an exciting election year with so many good Republicans running!

April is a busy month. Nevada Federation of Republican Women (NvFRW) is holding our Spring Board Meeting April 11 at South Point Casino. Your SHRW membership gives you three memberships for the price of one. You now belong to NvFRW and National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW). It's not too late to sign up for this meeting. The engaging Dr. Timothy Daughtry will be the guest speaker and his specialty is how to talk to Democrats. We all need to be more effective as we reach across to Democrats, Independents and undecided voters. There are many who are disillusioned and looking for an alternative. The GOP should become that alternative. The 2014 Nevada Republican Convention will be held in Las Vegas April 12th and 13th. April 12th is also the date for the CCRP's Lincoln Day Dinner held at the Venetian. I wasn't kidding when I said April was busy!

Our first Caring for America event this year is a Bar-B-Q for St. Jude's Ranch at 100 St. Jude's Street in Boulder City. Andria Coleman is looking for volunteers and donations to make this event a success. She and Diane Fell have begun recruiting candidates to participate in this worthwhile event. If you are unfamiliar with St. Jude's Ranch it is quite impressive. St. Jude’s Ranch for Children rescues abused, abandoned and neglected children of all races and faiths from the vicious cycle of child abuse. St. Jude’s Ranch Crossings is a supportive housing program for homeless 1 8 to 25 years old in the city of Las Vegas. This is a wonderful way to kick off our 2014 "Caring for America" projects.

"Hold the date" - July 12, 2014 for the RWSN PAC 2nd Annual Gala. You'll be hearing more from me about this fun and worthwhile function. It is through the PAC that SHRW can legally donate to our candidates. Last year we raised over $48,000. This year should be even better. Note that date on your calendar now!

God grants Liberty only to those who love it, and are always ready to guard and defend it. ~ Daniel Webster

Clark County Republican Party Update by Dave McKeon, Chairman

The Clark County Republican Party is working diligently on numerous projects as we march toward victory on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. One of the projects we are most excited about is our campaign to send letters and make phone calls to newly registered republicans to get them involved in our local party activities.

We have begun sending letters to one of the four categories of registered voters that we have identified as follows:

1-Newly Registered Republicans 2-Voters that have left political parties to join the Republican Party 3-Independents, Non-Partisan 4-Republicans that have left the party

The CCRP goal is to invite these folks to join the county party. Once we have welcomed them into our family, we plan to introduce them to all the clubs that are part of the county's Stakeholders program. The Stakeholders program is designed to promote political awareness, community participation and grow the membership of the clubs that support the work of the county party.

For more information, contact the CCRP Executive Director, Mr. Eric Roberts at 702-258-9184.

The NvFRW is having their Spring Board of Directors meeting on April 11th at South Point Hotel. This is a great opportunity to meet members from other clubs all over the state and learn more about the federation. Each time you attend these relationships become more valuable as we get to know each other better. Northern Nevada's needs differ from Southern Nevada's and it is only through communication with one another that we better understand the entire state of Nevada. It's time all Republicans work together and this is the perfect opportunity to forge ahead. If you have never joined Regents I encourage you to do so this year. Regents is the fundraising arm and has been the education arm of the Nevada Federation. By becoming a part of this organization we can better support our Republican candidates and help foster your Republicans.

In accordance with our bylaws, I hereby issue the official call and cordially invite you to attend the 2014 Spring Board of Director’s Meeting of the Nevada Federation of Republican Women. All interested Republican Women are invited to attend. To register Click Here

Spirit of 45 Day is observed on the second Sunday of August aligning with August 14, 1945, when celebrations broke out across America at the news that the most destructive war in history was over. PURPOSE: The Spirit of 45 is a nationwide, non-profit initiative to honor the achievements of America’s Greatest Generation so that their example of courage, self-sacrifice, service and national unity will forever inspire America’s future generations. Its purpose is to renew the sense of community and “can do” attitude that were the hallmarks of America’s Greatest Generation that endured the difficult times of the Great Depression, fought to defend democracy and led an unprecedented effort to assure a better future for their children and children’s children. We need to honor, observe and celebrate the Spirit of 45 because:

1. We should remember how perseverance, hope, faith, sacrifice and hard work was able to get the America’s Greatest Generation through their darkest days.

2. America’s Greatest Generation is a monumental example of what people and this country can accomplish when we all work together.

3. As a tribute to America’s Greatest Generation. They stepped up to oppose and defeat the worst surge of tyranny, aggression and outright evil the world had ever seen. Then, they rebuilt America and the world.

4. It provides an opportunity for America to say “thank you” in celebration and remembrance to those who served in uniform and those who supported them on the Home Front - the men and women who were the “ordinary heroes” of our Greatest Generation.. THE “KISS” The image of the “Times Square Kiss” is the official symbol of the Spirit of 45 Day. The “Kiss” represents a time when everyone came together to confront and defeat historic challenges as well as the legacy of the individuals who, after the war, assured a better future for America.

The “Kiss” reminds America of a time when the Greatest Generation put aside their differences in a spirit of shared sacrifice, and working together for a common cause, inspired the world with its imagination and “can do” attitude and compassion. By: SYDNEY S. INGRAM What’s Good and Right About America!

Given the chronically rancorous tone in Washington since Barack Hussein Obama took office, inevitably the din can temporarily obscure all the good that is America, both historically and today. When we become discouraged, let us remember these words of encouragement.

“Greet every sunrise as ‘morning again in America,’ every dawn as affirmation that America’s best days are yet to come. Our proudest moments are yet to be. Our greatest achievements are just ahead.”

“There’s a lot of things great about life. But I think tomorrow is the most important thing. Comes to us at midnight very clean, ya know. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday. And sure I wave the American flag. Do you know a better flag to wave? Sure I love my country with all her faults. I’m not ashamed of that, never have been, never will be.” John Wayne

“The name of American, which belongs to you, must always be the just pride of Patriotism.” George Washington

“Americanism means the virtues of courage, honor, justice, truth, sincerity, and hardihood-the virtues that made America…We can have no 50-50 allegiances in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing else, or he is not an American at all.” Teddy Roosevelt

“We identify the flag with almost everything we hold dear on earth, peace, security, liberty, family, our friends, our home. But when we look at our flag and behold it emblazoned with all our rights, we must remember that it is equally a symbol of our duties. Every glory that we associate with it is the result of duty done.”

“He serves his party best who serves the country best” Rutherford Hayes

“America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand.” Harry Truman

“There is nothing wrong with America that faith, love of freedom, intelligence and energy of her citizens cannot cure.” Dwight Eisenhower

“And so, my fellow Americans. Ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.” John F. Kennedy

And finally we hear from George Washington who said: “No country upon earth ever had it more in its power to attain these blessings than United America. Wondrously strange, then, and much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the means and to depart from the road which Providence has pointed us to so plainly, I cannot believe it will ever come to pass.” And we in SHRW will continue to work so that this never happens. This is a fundraising event for our flight we are planning on April 25-27th. Red Rock Harely-Davision is hosting the event in their parking lot and they are hoping to get as many people out to support the event as possible.

Honor Flight is planning to take 55 WWII veterans to Washington DC to see the memorials dedicated to their sacrifices. We are an all volunteer organization, dedicated to making this flight of Honor possible for our WWII veterans that have not been able to make this rewarding trip.

Missing Mary: We are sorry to say SHRW lost a valued member in March and we send condolences to her family and many friends.

Republican Club member Mary Keahl passed away on March 13th at Infinity Hospice, from complications of open heart surgery. She is the sister in law of Sharon Keahl. Mary was very active in the club and did volunteer work for voter registration, wearing her elephants and eagles proudly.

Mary became a homeowner in Anthem in 2009, after moving here from Hawaii where she had lived for many years. In Hawaii she owned and operated a fashion boutique. Mary enjoyed living in Anthem and her home in Black Mountain Village where she had made many friends. In addition to SHRW, Mary was also a member of the Fitness Club and also the Singles Club.

A widow since 1999, in addition to Sharon, Mary leaves her daughter Janniene and granddaughter Danielle who live in California.
