Share 1 Tweet 0 Share 2 In our fast-paced workplace today, the corporate wear familiar to all of us has mirrored surroundings that haven’t changed very much: Comformity. The perception is further enhanced with the dominance of grey (like most suits at work) in our boardrooms, suggesting that guys prefer to play it safe. When the dress code isn’t printed in bold like those outdated motivational, mission statement-type posters on the walls or listed in your KPI, there’s no reason for men to be scared of pushing the style envelope at work. If you’re a guy who expects the best ROI from your blue- chip stocks as well as your work wardrobe, take a peek into the notes that we’ve slipped into the workplace/office style suggestion box. Concrete Zoom Cream of the Use your imagination Evidence Crop Don’t be lazy and buy your Monday-to-Friday outfit from Gerald Tan one shop or brand, or buy the same shirt in different colours. Express yourself. How about wearing that business shirt with just the top button done up without a tie? Which tie knot then: The Windsor or Four-in-Hand? Lace-ups or dressy loafers? Briefcase or attaché case? As they say, “If you keep doing the same thing, how can you expect different results?” Mix things up. The little things add up Patrick Bateman in American Psycho says, “You’ve got to wear clothes in proportion to your physique”. That’s good advice that Style:MEN advocates: Good fit, right trouser length, sock colour, size of your tie knot, etc. Oh, wear short- sleeved shirts only if you want to look like a postal worker. Penny wise, Pound foolish Building a wardrobe doesn’t have to be a capital-intensive exercise. There’s workwear for every budget; just don’t dress like you’re on a really shoe-string one. Like managing work costs, work and shop smart with whatever amount of money you’ve set aside. Also, think long-term investment in your purchases. As a wise man once said: Excellence costs, but in the long run mediocrity costs far more. Dress smartly You’re out to earn respect and be credible, so dress like you are ready to work hard/deliver results. It’s fine to have a few creases in your shirt, to roll up your sleeves or to sweat a little above your brow. As long as you don’t appear like the pretty intern who spends more time in the men’s room. News Release For immediate release MDA seeks proposals for two FM frequencies Singapore, 15 June 2016 – The Media Development Authority has launched a public tender to seek proposals to operate commercial or not-for-profit radio stations on two FM frequencies - FM 89.3 and FM 96.3. The FM 89.3 spectrum is vacant while FM 96.3, currently occupied by Expat Radio 96.3 XFM, will be vacated by September 2016 upon expiry of its operating licence. To attract the widest range of proposals possible and inject greater vibrancy into the local radio scene (Please see Annex A for list of existing radio stations), MDA welcomes new concepts and will not limit proposals to any particular genre or programming format. All proposals will be evaluated based on the strength of programming characteristics and quality, as well as the financial standing of the tenderers and their business plans. In addition, those looking to operate commercial radio stations on the two frequencies will be required to submit a monetary bid. Tenderers submitting not-for-profit proposals will not need to do so but they will instead be evaluated on the social impact of their programming concepts. The tender opens today and it will close on 14 September 2016. Results will be announced by the first quarter of 2017.
