2008 UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN WOMEN’S SOCCER 3 COACHING STAFF BRENDAN FAHERTY HEAD COACH SEVENTH SEASON RECORD: 63-45-12 (.575) 2 NCAA APPEARANCES ALMA MATER: NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY, 2001 2005 CONFERENCE COACH OF THE YEAR BACK-T0-BACK NCAA APPEARANCES 2005 & 2006

Faherty has built University of New Haven Women’s Soccer into one of the top programs in the region. Entering his seventh season at UNH in 2008, Faherty is already the winningest coach in the program’s 15-year history with 63 career victories at UNH.

The turnaround under his watch has seen UNH go from just four wins in his first season to a combined 41 wins and two NCAA appearances in the last three years - the first two NCAA berths for the women’s soccer program. Faherty has helped recruit high-level talent, including three straight conference Player of the Year award winners in Crystal Lindsay and Selina Moylan. Lindsay, a two-time All-American, is the program’s all-time leading scorer, while Moylan, entering her final season at UNH, has been a program-record three-time All-American.

UNH entered 2007 ranked 23rd in the nation according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, marking the third straight season under his leadership that the team has been ranked in the NSCAA/adidas national Division II poll. Faherty has led UNH to as high as No. 13 nationally, in the season-ending 2005 poll.

After losing five seniors to graduation following the 2006 sea- son, the 2007 squad started slowly. The team opened 1-2-2 before finding its way and reeling off wins in 10 of its next 11 matches. The season included a win at then-No. 9 Dowling, 3-2 in double overtime, and the team played 7 of its 21 matches against nationally-ranked competition in all. Despite being forced to have six different players see goalkeeping duty, Faherty and UNH still made it four seasons in a row with at least 11 victories, going 12-7-2.

Following the season, junior Selina Moylan was named Daktronics Northeast Region Player of the Year and Second Team All-America by both Daktronics and the NSCAA/adidas - becoming the first player in program history to earn a third All-America award. NEW HEIGHTS UNDER FAHERTY

“UNH has given me a number of opportunities that I may not have otherwise received elsewhere. In just one year’s time, I've made great progress both in the classroom and on the soccer field. I’ve been given the opportunity to compete at a high level and I’ve met other student-athletes who are just as motivated and passionate about their sport. The small school setting allowed me to become familiar with my surroundings, and I am able to walk into class confident in my professors’ teaching abilities and their willingness to offer advice or extra help when needed. After a long day of classes and practice, I still have the time to get involved in school activities. Members of the faculty as well as the coaching staff have always been accommodating to my needs and concerns. The university is continuing to grow in size as its popularity increases. It has a large number of majors, a variety of clubs and sports teams, and friendly faculty and students, which would appeal to any individual. All of that is why I Chose UNH, and I Chose Division II.” - Nicole Grimaldi, Sophomore
