Rugby United has offered FREE TICKETS to the Tech community for this Sunday's (3/24) match between Rugby United New York and the Glendale Raptors in MCU Park at 2PM. ALL Brooklyn Tech students, faculty, staff, and their families are welcome to attend the FREE Major League Rugby event! Attendees just have to wear Tech's school navy and white colors (maybe bring some optional Tech signage to get on TV) and look for the "Brooklyn Tech Tickets" outside MCU Park (where the play) between 1:00- 1:30PM before the match.

Reminders A message from the Brooklyn Tech Muslims Students Association: I am sure you have all already heard of the tragedy that occured this recent Friday in New Zealand. A monster, not even deserving of the title of man, mercilessly slaughtered 51 innocent Muslims and injured about 49 others. We can not control what has already happened however, we can control how we choose to move forward. This Thursday we will be holding an MSA meeting in room 2N6 after 10th period to give everyone a chance to express their grief and their feelings on the recent tragedy. We invite everyone, Muslim or not, to come and express their thoughts. Thank You All for your time.

ASPIRA-Help the Homeless!! We are doing the second wave of donations that will be used to create goody bags for the homeless all around New York. The donations box is set up in the center west entrance to the school and the last day for donations is this Friday, March 22nd. We are collecting : feminine hygienic products, tooth paste, toothbrushes, floss, mouth wash, deodorant, chap-stick, lotion, etc. Please donate!!!

Are you a student who's excited about the college experience at Brooklyn Tech? Do you want to make an impact on your peers with the college process? Interested in sharpening and further developing your leadership skills? ... become a COLLEGE AMBASSADOR!

WHAT IS A COLLEGE AMBASSADOR?

College Ambassadors are students who are advocates for the College Office and are placed into a position of leadership and service. An Ambassador's responsibilities extend beyond assisting with collegiate affairs, but also involve a desire to serve, a commitment to improve, and an attitude of selflessness. College Ambassadors will work with a college advisor to ensure that they have mastered specific tasks by the end of the summer. Those tasks include (but are not limited to):

- Developing a final draft of the college essay - Establishing a strong college list - Starting the Common App - Identifying tests that need to be taken Fall 2019 - and more.

WHAT DO COLLEGE AMBASSADORS DO?

Ambassadors work closely with the College Office, undergoing group workshops on topics regarding the College Application Process. Workshop topics include:

* Navigating the college process at BTHS * Naviance * Common Application * CUNY/SUNY/Private College * FAFSA and award letters * Researching colleges

After sufficient training, College Ambassadors are then charged with sharing this information in their senior major classes or in group sessions outside of classes.

*Responsibilities of the Ambassadors include attending and participating in all college office events and activities that will take place during lunch periods and after school.

HOW CAN SOMEONE BECOME A COLLEGE AMBASSADOR? Complete this application by March 18. Group interviews will take place on Wednesday, March 22, 2019 during lunch periods. Successful applicants will be selected and identified by Monday, March 25, 2018.

College Ambassadors will also receive service credit and get priority placement for trips and events - in and outside of BTHS.

New York University Tisch School of the Arts is accepting applications for the Online High School Filmmakers Workshop until Wednesday, March 27, 2019!

The Online High School Filmmakers Workshop is a four-week program open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. It is a great opportunity for students to earn four college credits and start building their artistic portfolio. No experience in filmmaking necessary!

Workshop Dates: Monday, June 3 - Friday, June 28, 2019

Students will learn documentary, experimental, and narrative approaches to filmmaking as they develop their writing, directing, shooting, and editing skills. Projects include music videos and short films. Students will connect for one-on-one video meetings with their Tisch instructors to get valuable feedback on their work.

Students will learn the basics of screenwriting through writing exercises, reading assignments, viewing online media examples, as well as the script development and research for their short films. Through streaming lectures and video meetings this online workshop will highlight the fundamentals of story structure, character development, communication of thematic statements, and visual storytelling, among other topics. Bronx Loaf 2019 - Bronx Loaf 2019 is open and ready for business. This will be our seventh summer (!) providing students of all backgrounds a golden opportunity to:

-Workshop their creative writing with professional authors -Collaborate and socialize with student writers from public, private, and charter schools

-Publish their writing in our anthology, Breaking Bread

This year the conference will be held Monday, July 8th to Saturday, July 13th. We have workshops in Poetry, Fiction, Personal Essay/Memoir, and Graphic Novel/Comic Book (all contingent upon enrollment). Each workshop can accommodate up to 12 students. Act fast before all the seats fill up.

ArtSPACE Facilities Grant

The Office of Arts and Special Projects is accepting applications for the 2019-20 ArtSPACE (Supporting Performing Arts and Creative Education) Grant.

ArtSPACE grants will be awarded to up to 25 selected schools for facility renovations and resource support to refurbish their performing and visual arts studio spaces. ArtSPACE grants enable schools with a commitment to arts education programs to move closer to the goals outlined in the NYC DOE's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, the New York State Instructional Requirements, and sequential arts curriculum in grades Pre-K-12. The application can be completed by the school's Arts Education Liaison and/or a visual or performing arts teacher. Principals' signatures are required to complete the application. All principals in campus site schools must support and approve the project.

Applicant schools must demonstrate a commitment to arts education, including a strong arts curriculum that follows the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts; have at least one visual or performing arts teacher (or an "Intent to Hire" letter) who along with the principal provides a vision of how the arts support the school's instructional mission; and commit to implementing the project within six months of the award date. All schools are required to submit an evaluation form upon completion of the project.

The Knowledge Society's (TKS)

We highly encourage you to apply to The Knowledge Society's (TKS) 2019-2020 innovation program. TKS is selecting highly ambitious students ages 13-17 year old to expose them to cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Genomics, Quantum Computing, so that they can solve some of the world's hardest problems.

The program is led by successful entrepreneurs, who have built and sold companies, and have advised CEOs from the world's top 500 companies. We are Black Girls CODE, a nonprofit organization whose mission has transformed to a global movement to give young girls of color, ages 7-17, the tools to become inventors, leaders, and creators of their own future in the world’s technology economy. To date, we have educated and introduced computer programming to over 5,000 girls of color (Black, Latina, and Native American).

STEM Outreach is hosting "Our Brain on A.I. - Who's in Control, Me or the Machine?" on March 21st from 5 - 6:30 pm in Cooper Union's Great Hall.

We invited Computer scientist Dr. Yolanda Gil, Neuroscientist Dr. Alexandra Ochoa Cohen, and Activist and Artist Karen Palmer to debate questions posed by NYC students. Students can submit questions in advance or at the program.

Learn about the human and social implications of artificial intelligence and machine learning through the concerns and questions of NYC teens. This discussion, sponsored by Cooper Union's STEM Outreach, is part of an ongoing initiative to engage more students in STEM learning and careers.

Tara Chklovski is an engineer and the founder of Iridescent Learning, a global STEM education organization that launched the AI Family Challenge to involve parent in learning about computer science and AI with their children.

Dr. Yolanda Gil is Director of Knowledge Technologies and Associate Division Director at the Information Sciences Institute and a Research Professor in Computer Science and in Spatial Sciences at the University of Southern California. She was the 24th president of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.

Karen Palmer is an award-winning international artist, speaker, and activist specializing in emotionally responsive film experiences at the intersection of AI, neuroscience, consciousness and implicit bias.

Dr. Alexandra Ochoa Cohen is a neuroscientist at New York University studying emotional learning and memory in adolescents, a member of the Scientist Action and Advocacy Network, and the co-chair for 's 2019 Brain Awareness Week.

The Allstate Hot Chocolate 15k/5k is coming to Brooklyn for the first time ever the weekend of April 27th and we are in need of volunteers for a successful event! Calling all middle and high school game designers! Submit your social impact games to the G4C Student Challenge competition for the chance to win cool prizes and a $1,000 Grand Prize Scholarship!

Students across the country have been working hard all year to design digital games focused on social impact themes, and now we want to see them! Starting today (through April 1st), middle and high public school students in NYC, Atlanta, Detroit, and Los Angeles are invited to submit their original social impact games for the chance to win national recognition and a bevy of cool prizes, including a $1,000 Grand Prize Scholarship, generously provided by Take-Two Interactive!

To be considered for the competition, games must be created using an open/free platform and accessible to play via a URL. Games must also address one of this year's Student Challenge themes: Automated Communities 2050, Endangered Species, Disrupt Aging: Implications of Living 100. Additionally, students in NYC can submit games about Gender Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. Each game will be evaluated by panels of industry jurors on Gameplay, Originality, Use of Theme, and Wow Factor. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at local Award Ceremonies in each participating city during May/June 2019.

Institute for Environmental Journalism Application Deadline: May 15, 2019 Event: July 1-12, 2019 or July 15-26, 2019 Contact: Katina Paron [email protected] At the Institute for Environmental Journalism, students will spend two weeks either in NYC or Maine immersing themselves in climate science, going off-site on reporting trips, hearing from guest speakers, and working with professional reporters to produce their own journalism piece. This opportunity is open to motivated and curious students entering grades 10-12 or recent graduates who are interested in the environment and/or journalism. Students have the choice to apply to the boarding program at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, ME or the day program at The New School in New York, NY.
