Woodman Close / Bostock Close • Sparsholt INTRODUCTION June 2018 Introduction Woodman Close / Bostock Close • Sparsholt INTRODUCTION June 2018 Introduction • Winchester City Council is proposing to develop a small number of Council homes on land owned by the Council; • There is potential to also develop on land owned by A2 Dominion Housing Association. • All of the new homes would be owned and managed by the Council. • It is intended that the homes would be for rent. • The properties would be available to people within the Parish of Sparsholt with a recognised local connection. The scheme is supported by Sparsholt Parish Council and representatives from both Councils are on hand to answer any questions. BOSTOCK CLOSE WOODMAN CLOSE WOODMAN LANE WOODMAN CLOSE north Sparsholt Parish Council Woodman Close / Bostock Close • Sparsholt AIMS June 2018 Aims of the consultation • To inform local people of the aspiration to provide new Council Homes for local people; • To gain comments about the two proposals that are under consideration; • To encourage local people in housing need to register with Hampshire Home Choice. This will help the Council to refine the mix of properties so that the scheme can meet local needs. The homes facing the communal grassed area are likely to be two storey. • Hampshire Recusants in the Time of Elizabeth I, with Special Reference to Winchester
Proceedings of The Hampshire Field Club VOL. XXI, PART II 1959 Hampshire Recusants in the time of Elizabeth I, with special reference to Winchester by JOHN E. PAUL RECUSANT is literally one who refuses. In a special historical sense recusants were those Roman Catholics who refused to attend the service of Common Prayer A in the Church of England, and this was the meaning attached to the term by the Government and the Catholic authorities. Such attendance at Common Prayer was com pulsory under the Act of Uniformity of 1559 (1 Eliz. C.2). If a person refused he was liable under that Act to the ' censures of the Church' and also to a fine of twelvepence for every offence. In 1581 under The Act to retain the Queen's Majesty's subjects in their due obedience (23 Eliz. C.l) this fine was increased to the crippling sum of £20 a month, equivalent, perhaps, to something well over £500 today. ' Church-Papists ' were those persons, Catholic at heart, who outwardly conformed by attending the Established service as a formal measure, interpreting such attendance as an act of civil obedience owed to the Crown. Many went to Common Prayer, which was a legal requirement, but shrank from receiving Communion, which was not. (It was, however, an ecclesiastical obligation, and an offender could be excommunicated, suffering any penalties which might arise from such excommunication.) Some, through fear, received Communion. In the second half of Elizabeth's reign outward conformity was practised, ostensibly to escape the severe financial penalties under both the recusancy Act of 1581 and that of 1586-7, to which complete abstention from the services made persons liable.

Southampton, Totton and Waterside Group Walks Programme and Newsletter 1st November 2015 – 29th February 2016 Website – http://southamptonramblers.org.uk Contact – [email protected] We offer friendly welcoming company on our guided walks. Our walks cater for all abilities and range from shorter walks on Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays and summer evenings to all-day Sundays walks. Post Codes - Start and meeting points include nearest postcode and an Ordnance Survey grid reference accurate to 100m. Use postcodes with care: in rural areas the nearest postcode may be some distance from the actual start point. Walk Grades Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended. Moderate - walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. Walk gradings are provided as a general guide only. If you have any doubt about your fitness for a particular walk please contact the organiser or leader in advance. Bear in mind the distance of the walk, regional differences in terrain and the possibility of bad weather, which can make a walk more difficult than planned. If you're unsure of your fitness level, try a short and easy walk first - it's much better to find a walk a little too slow and easy than to make yourself miserable and exhausted. Leaders may refuse to accept participants who in their opinion are inadequately equipped or unfit.
