7 BAY AREA AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT

Duties: The Board is the governing body of the District and shall exercise all powers of the District, except as otherwise provided. The Board establishes and executes an effective program for the reduction of air contaminants within the District.

Compensation: $100 per meeting, plus travel expenses, shall not exceed $6,000 per year.

8 BAY CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (BCDC)

Membership: 1 member of the Board of Supervisors appointed by the Board who must be a Supervisor representing a district which includes within its boundaries lands lying within San Francisco Bay. 1 City Council member appointed as an alternate by the Supervisor.

Term of office: The members of the commission shall serve at the pleasure of their appointing powers.

Duties: The Commission regulates all filling, changes in existing use, and dredging in San Francisco Bay, in adjacent salt ponds and managed wetlands and certain tributary waterways; provides, within a 100-foot strip inland from the bay public access to the Bay to the maximum extent feasible; ensures that the limited amount of shore-line property suitable for high priority uses is reserved for these purposes, thus minimizing pressure to fill the Bay. The Commission also makes periodic special studies to update the San Francisco Bay Plan.

Compensation: $100 per meeting not to exceed a combined total of $400 in any one calendar month.

The Board of Supervisors may waive any of these requirements when making appointments.

Term of office: 3 years; maximum 12 years

Duties: To resolve disputes between the Chief Building Official and building permit applicants or holders concerning the proper interpretation of the Uniform Building Code; Uniform Plumbing Code; Uniform Mechanical Code; Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings; Uniform Building Security Code; Uniform Dwelling Construction Code; Uniform Housing Code; Uniform Sign Code; Uniform Solar Energy Code; National Electrical Code; Uniform One and Two Family Dwelling Code; Uniform Swimming Pool-Spa and Hot-Tub Code; and any other building code adopted by the San Mateo County Ordinance Code or enforced by the County of San Mateo, and authorize the Chief Building Official to record notice of violations of the foregoing codes with the San Mateo County Recorder.

Appointment: Board of Supervisors

Compensation: $50 per meeting, no member shall be paid for more than one meeting per month.
