Lauren was selected by the National Beta Scholarship Review Committee in Spartanburg, South Carolina to receive $1000 from the National Beta Scholarship Program. Lauren is 1 of 252 National Beta Scholarship recipients from more than 2,700 applicants. We are very proud of Lauren and congratulate her on her accomplishment. Congratulations to Oviedo's 2021 science and engineering fair students! At our regional (county-level) fair on February 6th, OHS had an extremely impressive 19 students showcase their work! Congratulations to our Students of the Week Congratulations to our HOSA students of the week! HOSA (Future Health Professionals) is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. This year students competed in the regional conference. The 1st through 3rd place winners will go on to state. We have SIX girls that will be going on to compete in the state competition! 1st place winners Lillian Estelow in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Emma Aguilar in Dental Terminology Katelyn Fry in Medical Math 2nd place winners Kyra Henriques in Behavioral Health 3rd place winners Rishika Podarala in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Amina Hasan and Gia George in Emergency Medical Technician 4th place winners Adya Gulati in Behavioral Health 5th place winners Katelyn Mingee in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences Victoria Woodcock and Cassidy Conte in Emergency Medical Technician Athletics Update from Athletic Director Jen Darty Girls Tennis won 7-0 over Lake Brantley to improve to 3-0. Rachel Whyte & Maddie Dowda also picked up their first varsity wins of the season at No.2 doubles, winning 8-6. Varsity Softball defeated Hagerty 3-1 last night. Catherine Buckner struck out seven and only allowed one run over seven innings on the mound. All three of the teams runs came from a home run by Riley Fennell. Angelee Bueno, Maddie Slavik, and Haleigh Slavik also contributed hits for the offense. JV fell to Hagerty 11-1. Girls Varsity Lacrosse fell to Bishop Moore 15-2. Senior Mandy Turner had two goals. Varsity Baseball won the first game of the Big Blue Classic 10-0 over University Orlando. JV Baseball fell 10-2 to Lake Brantley. Girls Varsity Soccer defeated Lake Brantley 2-0 in the Regional Quarterfinal matchup. Peyton Massie scored off an assist from Raisa Lugo with 13 minutes left in the game to give the Lions the lead. Ryleigh Holcomb added in a much needed extra goal off a free kick to seal the victory. The girls play Boone on Friday night in a Regional Semifinal at Boone at 7:00pm. Boys Weightlifting lost to Lake Howell 57-27. Dominic Charcap, James Cathcart, Bryce Lesser & Colton Kirby placed first in their weight class. Water Polo won over Lyman yesterday on both sides. The girls won 15-4 with the assist leader being Caitlin Kim and top goals scored by Carlie Rose with 4. The Boys won 10-7 behind Dominic Vizzarri leading in assists & scoring. Varsity Baseball defeated Dr. Phillips yesterday, 5-3. The team had 13 hits with Michael DiLella leading with four. D’moi Foy and Kade Faircloth each had a triple. Ben Davis pitched four innings and gave up one run and had four strikeouts while Brandon Burns got the save. With the win, the team advances to the championship of the Big Blue Classic on Friday. Tennis split their matches against Hagerty. The gentlemen fell by a score of 7-0, while the ladies squeaked out a 4-3 win to remain undefeated on the season. The win was clinched for the ladies behind a strong clutch performance from No. 5 singles Marly Marquez winning 9-8 (8-6). JV Softball won last night over Seminole, 11-0. Lainey Green was phenomenal on the mound with a no hitter. Bryana Nelson led the offense with a two-run homerun. Varsity Softball dropped a close one 2-0 against Seminole. Maddie Slavik and Alyssa Tossi led the Lions offensively going 2-for-3 at the plate. Girls Lacrosse defeated Dr. Phillips at both levels. JV won 11-1 led by Annabelle Godwin with 5 goals. Varsity won 13-1 led by seniors Mandy Turner & Natalie Cyrkel both with 3 goals. Water Polo posted two wins over Timber Creek. The Girls won 19-4 and the Boys won 19-1. Daniel Salcedo posted 8 saves in goal. Joe San Flillipo, Brady Vaiarella, and Luke Yost were among 6 lions who scored. Luke Yost also posted 2 assists. For the girls, goalie Laurel Cupit posted 9 saves, Marrisa Watkins led with 3 assists, and Caitlin Kim topped the scoring with 5 among 8 other girls who chalked goals for the team. Boys Varsity Basketball fell to Dr. Phillips in the Region Quarterfinal, 67-21. OHS Athletic Boosters is needing a VP of Sponsorship and Concessions Coordinator. The Seminole County & FHSAA online ticketing provider is GoFan (www.gofan.co). All tickets will be purchased through GoFan and redeemed electronically on your smart phone at the gate. Upon purchasing tickets, please make sure you do NOT validate them prior to entering the gate. There will not be paper tickets available at the gate. All Fall athletic events, with the exception of Varsity Football, at Oviedo High School are currently available for purchase in GoFan through this link: https://gofan.co/app/school/FL1808. For our home Varsity Football games, tickets for general admission will go live online on Monday at 8:00am the week of the home Varsity Football game. Please note, all venues are at limited capacity with a set number of tickets.
