Leverington House Peatlings Lane | Wisbech | Cambridgeshire | PE13 1PS HISTORIC GEM Leverington House is a fabulously unique family home that combines the charms of the Georgian and Victorian eras with the more modern architecture at the back. It is full of original features and bursting with character, both inside and out. Sitting centrally within landscaped gardens and grounds, and surrounded by mature trees that, unusually, includes a Giant Redwood, the house feels very secluded and private. However, less than a mile away you have the thriving Georgian market town of Wisbech, which easily fulfils you every day needs, as well as having reputable primary and secondary schools including the highly sought after Wisbech Grammar School. • An Impressive Grade II Listed House located in the pretty village of Leverington • Beautiful Period Features found throughout • Sitting Room, Dining Room, Snug and Study • Spacious Kitchen/Breakfast Room plus Utility Room • 4 Bedrooms with En-suite to Master plus Family Bathroom • Basement Level with 2 Basement Rooms, Good Storage Spaces and Utility Room • Garden is Mainly Laid to Lawn with a Variety of Trees and Barbeque Area • The Accommodation extends to 4,394sq.ft A Journey Through Time This home is a wonderful amalgamation of architectural design. From the expansive hallway you can literally take a stroll through the different eras and enjoy the distinguishing features that defined these periods. The Georgian dining room boasts ornate wood panelled walls, high ceilings and a beautiful marble fireplace with original tiled surround. In here, the light streams in through a pair of full height, arched, stone windows, as well as a glazed arched doorway that leads out to the garden. The room was originally part of an old church that was literally lifted and added to the house, giving from the outside a definite gothic feel to this quarter, with castellated ramparts along the roofline. Moving down the hallway you enter the Victorian era, where the large sitting room is graced with a wonderful coved ceiling, and big windows that still have their original shutters in place. Finally, up a few steps at the back of the house, is the newest addition to this fabulous home, an enormous modern but sympathetically styled kitchen/breakfast room. The Heart of The Home The kitchen is an amazing room. Built onto the rear of the house and with an elevated position, the big bay windows offer sweeping views out across the garden, ideal for keeping an eye on young children at play. The bespoke units are hand-made, and the curved hardwood work surfaces offer plenty of space for anyone with culinary ambition. It is a wonderfully generous room with space for a large kitchen table, and makes for a very social room perfect for a family. Leading down from the kitchen you also have the snug which, with its gas log-burner, is a cosy retreat, especially during the winter months, as well as a large, fully equipped utility that then leads out to the garden. Upstairs Downstairs A further set of steps takes you into the expansive basement that incorporates a large wine cellar, and has endless opportunities for a multitude of uses such as a gym, a workshop, teenage den or a ‘man cave’. These cellar rooms run under whole of the house, and are again a mix of the different styles. You discover Victorian flagstone floors as well as Georgian panelling, and, rather excitingly, there is supposed to be a hidden tunnel that leads to the village church. Back in the entrance hallway a beautiful Georgian staircase leads up to the first floor where you find the first of the four large double bedrooms, and then up again to the remaining bedrooms and the master suite. In here a huge bay window allows natural light to stream in, and the views out across the garden are spectacular. Having a Wild Time The grounds have been beautifully landscaped creating the perfect outside space to appreciate nature, as some areas have been left to grow wild where several bumble bee colonies have developed, as well as attracting a huge variety of birds and regularly visiting animals. Close to the house, planted borders provide vibrancy and colour throughout the year, and the large lawns are bordered by a mix of mature trees including oak, ash, beech, walnut and a variety of fruit trees that give a frothy display in Spring. You enter into the property via a wooden five bar gate and are immediately greeted by the sight of a giant Redwood tree, with the boundary of the property incredibly secluded by large specimen trees of all different varieties. A large shingle driveway extends across the front of the property and towards the rear you then have block steps taking you towards the car port. There is a quiet walled part of the garden which is paved and has a built-in barbecue area, perfect for summer dining, and to the rear, the old vegetable plot is ripe for resurrection. The garden is predominately laid to lawn but has very attractive, well stocked beds with shrubs and perennials. The rear part of the garden is fenced off to encourage wildlife into the wild flower meadow.
