Winter Festival Initiated by His Majesty the King (7/2/2018)

A winter festival, initiated by His Majesty King Maha Bodindradebayavarangkun, is being held at the Royal Plaza on the grounds of in from 8 February to 11 March 2018.

Organized under the theme \"Un Ai Rak Khlai Khwam Nao (Warm Love to Loosen the Cold), the event reflects the long-standing bonds between the institution of Thailands monarchy and the Thai people.

The public are invited to take part in various activities at the festival, with proceeds going to the charity to help the underprivileged and needy in all regions of Thailand. The event will be open from 10.30- 21.00 hr and until 22.00 hr on Friday and Saturday. Entry is free.

Visitors to the festival are encouraged to dress in traditional Thai period costume, from the golden reign of King (Rama V), or wear Thai textiles, or polite attire of this bygone era. The Tourism Authority of Thailand will present a replica cinema of the reign of King Rama V the Great airing period commercials of Thailands tourism.

Other activities held at the festival are as follows:

1. Exhibitions - The Siam Pracha Ramluek (The Memoir of the Siamese People), to be held on the grounds of Dusit Palace, features the life and work of King Rama V the Great through photographs and a QR code. The exhibition and activities show the bountiful love and endless reverence the Thai people have for their monarchy. - \"The Trees of Kings exhibition will be housed in a Rama V the Great-era architectural style space displaying in-depth biographies and achievements dating from the days of King Rama V the Great through to King Rama IX. Storytelling though photographs and VDOs, using advanced mapping projection techniques, will chronicle Thailands development from the King Rama V the Great period to the King Rama IX period, while emphasizing the conservation and development efforts for the benefit and happiness of all Thai people.

2. Royal Family shops and those of invited guests, plus ancient Thai food stalls and products, will be on display at Sanam Suea Pa, under the theme of \"Tai Rom Phra Borom Bodhi Somphan Sueb San Chum Chon Withi Thai (Under His Benevolence, Conserve Thai Local Communities). The public will get an opportunity to enjoy Thai-style lucky draws and games from the Kalapaphruk Tree.

3. Main stage Daily cultural performances from all regions of Thailand will liven up the main stage, including retro-style open-air cinema airing period films. There will also be demonstrations of fine art from the Royal Court that was passed down through generations including fresh floral garland making and cloth stitching, from the Royal Traditional Thai Crafts School for Women (Wittayalai Nai Wong Ying) and Royal Craftsmen College (Wittayalai Nai Wong Chai). Interested members of the public can take courses to learn these fine arts that remain viable ways to make a living today.
