Qualification draw The eight participants of qualification tournaments are divided into four pots of two teams with Slovenian runners-up Gorenje Velenje and Portuguese chamions ABC/UMinho being seeded in the top pot. The qualification draw will be carried out on Wednesday 29 June at 13:00 hrs at the EHF Office in Vienna and will be streamed on Facebook Live. Pot 1: RK Gorenje Velenje (SLO), ABC/UMinho (POR) Pot 2: Tatran Presov (SVK), Bregenz Handball (AUT) Pot 3: Red Boys Differdange (LUX), Achilles Bocholt (BEL) Pot 4: Cocks (FIN), Maccabi Castro Tel-Aviv (ISR) Group Phase draw The 26 teams directly seeded for the group phase and two qualifiers will learn their fate in the new season as the draw both for the Groups A&B and Groups C&D is to be conducted on Friday 1 July at 13:00 hrs in Glostrup, Denmark at the headquarters of SELECT SPORT, the EHF’s new ball partner. 7 POT 1 Gorenje Velenje (SLO) As usual in Slovenia, Celje’s title push encountered little resistance from other Slovenian sides, aside from the three-time champion and bitter rivals Gorenje. The Velenje-based club even led the league table, ahead of their away duel with Celje in the ultimate round of the championship; however, Branko Tamse’s side cleared any doubts from the very first minute, which was the only time Gorenje led in the match. The final result has put Gorenje as runners-up for the third time in a row.     EURÓPSKA ÚNIA SPORT IN Project was co-fi nances by ERDF – EU funds “Investícia do Vašej budúcnosti” NITRA “Investment into your future” discover the place, live the story FUTBAL Th e beginnings of football below the Zobor can be traced back to the voluntary fi re brigade in the beginning of the twentieth century which adopted the game element, namely football, also in their training. At the turn of the fi fties and the sixties, the team of Nitra participated in the highest competition in the Republic, where it did not get lost amidst the competition of eminent Czech and Slovak stars. In the season of 1961/1962 it gained the second place and, in the next season, it became a fi nalist in the Central European Cup. Th e next big achievement was the third rank in the 1st National League, and the participation in the UEFA Cup in 1989. In the modern-day history of football in Nitra, the FC Nitra club takes pride in the status of being the fi rst professional club in Slovakia with a clearly defi ned philosophy: to promote junior football and focus on the training of the youth. Since the birth of the independent Slovak league, the team has taken part in the fi rst and the second league alternately, with average results. In the season of 2004/2005, they managed to establish a steady cadre, in the centre of which numerous local trainees have found their fi rm position. Th e steady team clearly dominated and thus, in May 2005, could celebrate their advancement to the highest competition after their longest silence since the late seventies.

    The European Club Footballing Landscape Club Licensing Benchmarking Report Financial Year 2018 Club Licensing Benchmarking Report: Financial Year 2018 Club Licensing Benchmarking Report: Financial Year 2018 Foreword Welcome to the eleventh edition of the UEFA Club Licensing Benchmarking Report, which again focuses on football finances but also other off-the-field trends in the European football ecosystem. This year UEFA presented its new strategy, Together for the Future of Football, a blueprint for future-proofing UEFA and European football. One of the strategy’s key policies of optimising intelligence and deepening knowledge for better decision-making chimes perfectly with this report. The benchmarking report’s thorough analysis of the finances and more of more than 700 top-division clubs provides a hugely valuable appreciation of the successes of and challenges facing European club football; essential information for future decision- making. The headline figure is a second successive year of overall profitability for European top-division clubs. As financial performance has improved, the clubs’ financial position has become significantly healthier, with club net assets increasing from less than €2 billion to more than €9 billion in the space of a decade, a testament to the success of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, the stable European football ecosystem and sustained and sensible investment. Equally encouraging is the revelation in the report’s new section on training infrastructure that almost 80% of clubs have invested in training facility improvements in the past five years. It is also welcome to see the report widen its scope to include women’s football this year.

It is up to the match organisers to do all they can to ensure that these festivals of football are not spoiled and that their sporting spirit remains intact from start to finish. However, the fact that football mirrors society, including its flaws, increases the danger of its popularity and media exposure being used as a choice platform by individuals seeking emotions that have nothing to do with those that sport arouses. Such disruptive elements can never be tolerated, not even remotely, and racism – increasing incidents of which have been witnessed in stadiums lately – is no more acceptable than acts of violence. But it is not enough to say so and to repeat it, and it is not enough to take IN THIS ISSUE preventive measures such as our Respect campaign and our support of anti-racism Germany crowned associations – we also have to state our clear and unreserved intention to do every- European U21 champions 03 thing we can to eradicate this scourge from stadiums.
