PRESS RELEASE JUNE 13, 2013 STATE OPERA AND BALLET 4TH INTERNATIONAL ISTANBUL OPERA FESTIVAL STARTS ON JUNE 25TH International Istanbul Opera Festival where selective Turkish and world class operas meet art lovers every year, is preparing to embrace opera lovers with a rich program and unforgettable performances in its fourth year. The festival organized by Directorate General of State Opera and Ballet with contributions of DenizBank will be held between June 25th and July 8th this year. In scope of the festival, besides the Gala Concert “Viva Verdi” to be held at Hagia Irene, it will be possible to watch five different works of art in five different venues ranging from works of famous composers such as W.A. Mozart to Antonio Vivaldi. 4th International Istanbul Opera Festival organized by Directorate General of State Opera and Ballet that continues activities with the mission of providing opera and arts to all ranges of society under the main sponsorship of DenizBank that wishes to support culture and arts in Turkey will meet opera lovers between June 25th and July 8th 2013. The festival to last two weeks will meet art lovers with a total of nine performances including five opera productions and a gala concert in July under the art directorship of chief stage director Yekta Kara. In scope of the festival, guests will be able to watch “Viva Verdi” Gala Concert in the magical atmosphere of Hagia Irene besides performances of Ankara, İstanbul, Antalya and Samsun State Opera and Ballet. In the concert led by Roberto Abbado, famous soloists of opera such as baritone Marco Vratogna, tenor Stefano Secco, tenor Marco Berti and soprano Aleksandra Kurzak will take to the stage. -

COMUNICATO STAMPA Venezia, 30 marzo 2012 Carmen di Georges Bizet Giovedì 21 giugno 2012 alle ore 19.00 (turno A) tornerà alla Fenice un capolavoro del repertorio francese assente dal 1997: Carmen di Georges Bizet, opéra-comique in quattro atti su libretto di Henri Meilhac e Ludovic Halévy tratto dalla novella omonima di Prosper Mérimée. L’opera, proposta in un nuovo allestimento coprodotto dalla Fondazione Teatro La Fenice con il Gran Teatre de Liceu di Barcellona, la Fondazione Teatro Massimo di Palermo e la Fondazione Teatro Regio di Torino (già presentato a Barcellona nel settembre 2010 e a Palermo nel novembre 2011), permetterà di apprezzare per la prima volta a Venezia il lavoro del regista spagnolo Calixto Bieito, con le scene di Alfons Flores e i costumi di Mercè Paloma. L’Orchestra e il Coro del Teatro La Fenice (maestro del coro Claudio Marino Moretti) e il coro di voci bianche dei Piccoli Cantori Veneziani (maestro del coro Diana D’Alessio) saranno diretti dal trentenne maestro israeliano Omer Meir Wellber. Interpreti principali saranno Béatrice Uria-Monzon in alternanza con Katarina Giotas nel ruolo di Carmen; Stefano Secco in alternanza con Luca Lombardo in quello di Don José; Alexander Vinogradov e Károly Szemerédy in quello di Escamillo; Ekaterina Bakanova e Virginia Wagner in quello di Micaëla; Chiara Fracasso nel ruolo di Mercédès e Sonia Ciani in quello di Frasquita. A tale risultato si è pervenuti dopo aver imputato a conto economico imposte dell’esercizio per Euro 124.355 e dopo aver calcolato ammortamenti e svalutazioni per Euro 2.324.596. Gli obiettivi che la Fondazione ha perseguito con la gestione dell’esercizio 2015 sono, oltre a quelli indicati nello Statuto e nelle norme vigenti, quelli approvati dal Consiglio d’Indirizzo di concerto con l’assemblea dei Soci Fondatori e riassunti quantitativamente nel conto economico preventivo 2015. L’attività del 2015 si è concretizzata attraverso la produzione e la distribuzione di spettacoli nella sede principale, con il cartellone della Stagione d’Opera e dei Concerti al Teatro Regio, la rassegna The Best of Italian Opera programmata in concomitanza con l’Expo 2015, l’attività al Piccolo Regio. -

STAGIONE LIRICA E DI BALLETTO 2018 RIGOLETTO musica Giuseppe Verdi GLI INTERPRETI Anastasia Boldyreva - Maddalena (mezzosoprano) Ha intrapreso lo studio del canto lirico con Igor Chernov a Mosca, sua città natale. Nel 2002 è stata ammessa al Conservatorio di Mosca nella classe di Larissa Nikitina. Giunta in Italia nel 2003 per approfondire lo studio del belcanto, ha frequentato il corso di perfezionamento “Maggio Musicale Formazione” per cantanti lirici tenuto da Bernadette Manca di Nissa al Teatro Comunale di Firenze. Successivamente ha frequentato l’Accademia Europea del Festival Aix-en-Provence, dove è stata scelta per la tournée internazionale HSBC Giovani Artisti. In questi stessi anni ha partecipato a diversi concorsi nazionali ed internazionali, aggiudicandosi importanti riconoscimenti tra cui: Primo Premio al Concorso “Giulio Neri” e al Concorso “Anselmo Colzani”, Terzo Premio al Concorso “Ferruccio Tagliavini”, Premio Speciale della Giuria al Concorso “Riccardo Zandonai”. Ha debuttato in Italia nel ruolo di Maddalena in Il viaggio a Reims con l’Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino diretta da Nir Kabaretti. Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra: A survey of the discography by Ralph Moore I think of Simon Boccanegra as something of a connoisseur’s opera, insofar as it surely contains some of Verdi’s most inspired music, yet has from its premiere rightly been criticised for its labyrinthine plot – a caricature of typically operatic complications – and its consequent lack of accessibility for audiences. For that reason, the first version soon fell out of favour after its 1857 premiere, but Verdi, no doubt with justification, thought highly enough of the music to undertake a revision twenty-three years later with the help of Arrigo Boito, and the result, the 1881 version, is the one almost invariably performed today. The most important addition was the Council Chamber Scene; the opera would be much the poorer without it, but Verdi also revised a good deal of the music to render it far more ductile and atmospheric. The opera presents an admixture of personal and political turmoil such as we encounter in other mature operas like Les vêpres siciliennes and Don Carlos, but also capitalises on two archetypal themes very prevalent in Verdi’s operas and to which he frequently returned, both of which prompted the best of his music: the depiction of a loving but tortured father-daughter relationship of the kind we also see in Luisa Miller, Rigoletto and Aida and his concern for statesmanship, as exhibited in the appeals for peace, patriotism and brotherhood, rallying calls stretching right back to his earliest operas, such as Nabucco, I Lombardi, Attila and La battaglia di Legnano. -
