The Kennedys did not reveal that she was institutionalized because of a failed lobotomy, but instead said that she was deemed "mentally retarded". I listened to this book on audible and the narrator was excellent but I did miss out on the photographs included in the hard copy. With only two weeks from her arrival in England to prepare for the social event of the year, Rosemary successfully learned the special curtsy, dances, and other formal etiquettes demanded at Buckingham Palace. This pace, however, earned Joe an ulcer, and just a month after Rosemary was born he checked himself into a sanitarium to recuperate. The "good" that came from this? Some of the people who took care of Rosemary sound wonderful, and I'm glad Rosemary had those people in her life.. My name is Tim Lachapelle. I worked on the staff of the first HMUNC Crisis Committee, which re-created the West Wing in the post 9/11 Era. After two days of fast paced debate, and constant threat of nuclear Armageddon, the Hofstra Model UN club quickly discovered that the HMUNC delegates were up to any challenge that we throw at them. This year we are presenting another historical crisis scenario. In this committee you will all be acting as members of the Oval Office during the JFK era. The leaders of the nation are faced with many challenges during his presidency and this committee will be responsible for managing two potential crises: the first is the threat of Soviet missiles off the coast of Florida; the second is the constant threat of an attempt on the President’s life. Although this committee will rely on historical fact to solve these crises, the events will not play out exactly as they did in the history books. Some events or people involved may change depending on how the committee resolves each issue. I am currently a sophomore at Hofstra University, studying Political Science. I have been doing Model United Nations for one year. My first Model UN conference was at the University of Pennsylvania and I represented Iran in the World Health Organization. Others will talk about Teddy’s mastery of the Senate, his far- sighted chairmanship of the Judiciary and HELP Committees, and the major legislation that would not have been passed but for his passion, commitment, and perseverance: the ADA, minimum wage, criminal justice code overhaul, immigration, changing the voting age to eigh- teen, and every major piece of civil and voting rights legislation over the past fifty years. It’s still hard to fully comprehend how directly Teddy’s work impacted the lives of every American. I thought I would just say a few words about him as person, be- cause I think that more than almost anyone else I’ve ever met, Teddy’s humanity is what made him such a legislative giant. Teddy was known to his many nieces and nephews for his big hugs, his big heart, and his come-one-come-all sailing expeditions. When fewer and fewer people wanted to join these death defying ex- cursions, he created the Family History Trip for all generations to visit historic sites together.
