Todd Gutterman - President Greetings, everyone! Welcome to the 2021 Minnesota Selects Hockey Festival! I want to acknowledge the events of the past 18 months. We have all faced many unforeseen challenges, both within and beyond the hockey world. For the safety of everyone involved, the Minnesota Selects Executive Board made the difficult decisions to cancel the 2020 Festival and delay the 2021 Festival until now. While the dates have changed for this year, players and fans will still enjoy many of the features that have made our Festival great since its debut in 1989: * No gate fee. * High-quality jerseys with player names lettered on the back. * Saturday’s Skills Competition (a fan fave!) with prizes. * Sunday’s awards program, including individual player recognition and a strong focus on recognizing our student athletes. * The college-level program with a complete history of the Festival’s participants. * A weekend of great competition, excitement, and fun! On behalf of Minnesota Selects, I want to thank our 680 players and the coaches, families, friends, and volunteers for all the time, planning, and commitment it takes to make our tournament the success that it is and always has been. It’s been a long wait, but we are excited to be back for our 33rd year! The Record Producer As Nexus: Creative Inspiration, Technology and the Recording Industry
The Record Producer as Nexus: Creative Inspiration, Technology and the Recording Industry A submission presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of Glamorgan/Prifysgol Morgannwg for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Michael John Gilmour Howlett April 2009 ii I certify that the work presented in this dissertation is my own, and has not been presented, or is currently submitted, in candidature for any degree at any other University: _____________________________________________________________ Michael Howlett iii The Record Producer as Nexus: Creative Inspiration, Technology and the Recording Industry Abstract What is a record producer? There is a degree of mystery and uncertainty about just what goes on behind the studio door. Some producers are seen as Svengali- like figures manipulating artists into mass consumer product. Producers are sometimes seen as mere technicians whose job is simply to set up a few microphones and press the record button. Close examination of the recording process will show how far this is from a complete picture. Artists are special—they come with an inspiration, and a talent, but also with a variety of complications, and in many ways a recording studio can seem the least likely place for creative expression and for an affective performance to happen. The task of the record producer is to engage with these artists and their songs and turn these potentials into form through the technology of the recording studio. The purpose of the exercise is to disseminate this fixed form to an imagined audience—generally in the hope that this audience will prove to be real. -

SOMETHING SACRED: the Real Contribution of Salesian Spirituality for Our Virtual Culture
LECTURES & PAPERS THOMAS F. DAILEY, O.S.F.S., S.T.D. SOMETHING SACRED: The Real Contribution of Salesian Spirituality for Our Virtual Culture retreat conference for the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales June 1998 Preface In his opening remarks, Fr. Provincial noted that he would not, or could not, speak to you for sixty minutes, as the schedule suggests. But he did give that task to me! So let me get right to it. Way back when, at the time that we were planning this retreat, there was a great hullabaloo about a television show that was airing on ABC called Nothing Sacred. You'll recognize the obvious allusion to it in the title of our retreat. Since then, for better or worse, the show has been canceled. Hopefully, you won't wish the same fate upon this presentation! But, there's no need to worry. I have no intention of offering some theological review of this program in objection to its moral or pastoral perspectives. (After all, I only saw one episode, and it was boring enough not to elicit further viewing.) I do, however, have a problem with the assumption that underlies the show, the assumption that in our present culture, the interaction of religion and society is denigrated to the point where it is popular to think that "nothing" is to be taken as "sacred."(1) For it is my conviction, and the basis for this retreat, that we as Oblates do, indeed, have "something sacred" to offer to our world - namely, the charism of Salesian Spirituality which has been entrusted to us to disseminate to others through our ministries. -
