TRIBUTE TO THREE GIANTS FIGURES OF THE SIXTIES’ POP MUSIC IN THE 50th ANNIVERSAIRE OF THEIR DEATH. ALAN WILSON, JIMI HENDRIX AND JANIS JOPLIN: ASTROLOGICAL REVIEW OF THREE 27’ CLUB MEMBERS. We were at the end of the “sixties”, a remarkable decade of 20th century for popular music, revolutionary movements, technological achievements and radical changes in human relationships. It was also the time of “hippie liberation”, the spread of drugs through young people. Everything was fine when, just in the span of thirty days, three outstanding members of musical background suddenly died. 1970, September the 3th: Alan Wilson, “Canned Heat” guitar, harmonica and vocal, commit suicide at home of another member group, Bob Hite, in Topanga Canyon, California. An overdose was the cause of his death. He was 27 years old. 1970, September the 18th: Jimi Hendrix, one of the bests guitarrist of all times, share his last night with Monica Dannemann in Samarkand Hotel, London. When she woke up Jimi was inconscious, yet breathe. He was moved at St. Mary Abbot Hospital, but he was not alive. The cause of his death: asphyxia per vomit. His partner declared that Jimi had had seven tablets of Vesparax, a barbituric, say, 18 times the recommended dose. He was 27 years old. 1970, October the 4th: Janis Joplin, a singer and contraculture icon of the sixties was found dead in her hotel room, at Los Angeles, just when she was going to record the vocal part of Buried Alive in the Blues next morning. A portent, maybe a synchronicity. The official cause of her death was an heroine overdose, probably combined with alcohol effects. -

Adrian celebrated his brothers’ accomplishments and planned to be sitting alongside DeAndre’ to watch the NBA draft on June 23, 2016. Adrian helped plan the draft party with their mother, Essence. Essence dedicated her life to helping her sons achieve success and was devastated when she received the dreaded phone call no parent ever wants to hear. In the early morning of June 11, 2016 literally days before the much-anticipated draft, Essence received the tragic news from Adrian’s father. Her 20-year-old, ambitious, fun-loving and tenacious son, was shot and killed near the University of North Carolina, Charlotte campus. This tragedy had a shocking and paralyzing effect on the Bembry family. Knowing where to find support and assistance while planning a funeral service, dealing with unimaginable grief and the reality of life without a son, brother and best friend, were overwhelming for Essence and DeAndre’. This family tragedy served as the catalyst for DeAndre’ to develop a support system that could be an anchor and a resource hub for other families who may have to take a similar journey through grief. -

By Ken Avis On October 25th the Music Cities Conference in Washington, DC brought together 200 musicians, presenters, and city ad - ministrators from around the world to share experiences con - cerning the value of active music communities and ways to make them thrive. Something is happening out there. In re - cent years, at the city and at national levels, data are being collected, action plans are being implemented, and “live music offices” are being staffed. The evidence is conclusive. Under the right conditions a vibrant music scene positively affects community and economic development. Link it to tourism and it can really bring in the dollars and jobs. Austin, Nashville, New Orleans, and Berlin are clearly “music cities” where festivals, clubs and the supporting in - dustries provide jobs and attract tourist dollars. Austin has been America’s fastest-growing city for the last nine years. Its “cool music city” factor has been key to its success in attract - ing creative talent for the expanding high tech and creative What about Baltimore? Could Baltimore harness its jazz industries.
