Eletrobras Retains J.P. Morgan as Depositary Bank for NYSE Listing

Largest Brazilian OTC ADR program upgrades to a Level 2 NYSE listing

New York, October 31, 2008 - J.P. Morgan today announced it has been retained by Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. (Eletrobrás) to be the depositary bank for the company's American Depositary Receipt (ADR) program listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). J.P. Morgan had served as the depositary bank for the Eletrobrás OTC ADR program, and has now been mandated as the depositary for the company's Level 2 NYSE listing. Eletrobrás is the largest electric utilities company in , and had been the largest Brazilian OTC ADR program prior to its current upgrade to a full NYSE listing. The NYSE-listed ADRs will trade under symbols EBR and EBR.B.

J.P. Morgan has been the depositary bank for all of the Latin American listings on the NYSE in 2008: Eletrobrás (), Ecopetrol S.A. (), and Telmex Internacional (Mexico).
