Since purchasing my car a little over a year ago there have been a lot of firsts, but this weekend was definitely a highlight. How could it be anything but great with sun, beaches, English cars and a leisurely drive on Hwy 3 in an open air car. Having traveled many miles in open MG s in the past it was a real nostalgic weekend. Aside from myself and Helen, the only club mem- bers I knew in advance were attending was Ken and Pat Miles. I also met up with fellow club members Dennis and Pat Nelson, Bob and Judy McDiarmid, Steve and Liz Blake and Jennifer Orum. If there was anyone else from our club there I did not notice and I apologize for any omission. I also met Andrew Barnes from the OECC Northern Interior Branch who traveled with his wife from Prince George. This took them 10 hours, mostly in the rain in a 1974 MG Midget. Now that’s dedication! The official count was 192 cars, mostly roadsters with a few saloons. I found a 1958 Morris Oxford and a Morris Minor woody to be excellent along with a 1930 MG M. Our club members did well in the awards: 1st Sprigets class – Bence McIntyre 1st Morgan class – Ken Miles 2nd Morgan class – Steve Blake 3rd Morgan class – Bob McDiarmid 1st MG B – 68-72 - Jennifer Orum It took us 5 ½ hours driving time each way including breakfast stops. Until I get a higher geared rear end my maximum highway speed is 85-90 kph. I averaged 38 mpg which was good as I was concerned about my 6 gallon tank and the need for 94 octane gas. Penticton was the perfect venue. The car show was on the waterfront right outside the motel. The banquets and all needed ser- vices were within walking distance of the motel. What this event needs is a bigger turn out of the sa- loon crowd. So let’s Italo Cirillo with award presented to the Old think about English Car Club for the club entry in the New Kelowna 2005. Call Number: Archival Collection 26 Quantity: 931 cubic feet (514 flat archival boxes, 98 clamshell boxes, 29 filing cabinets, 18 record center cartons, 15 glass plate boxes, 8 oversize boxes). Abstract: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers 1905-2011 contain his extensive research files, photographs, and prints on a wide variety of automotive topics. The papers reflect the complexity and breadth of Ludvigsen’s work as an author, researcher, and consultant. Approximately 70,000 of his photographic negatives have been digitized and are available on the Revs Digital Library. Thousands of undigitized prints in several series are also available but the copyright of the prints is unclear for many of the images. Ludvigsen’s research files are divided into two series: Subjects and Marques, each focusing on technical aspects, and were clipped or copied from newspapers, trade publications, and manufacturer’s literature, but there are occasional blueprints and photographs. Some of the files include Ludvigsen’s consulting research and the records of his Ludvigsen Library. Scope and Content Note: The Karl E. Ludvigsen papers are organized into eight series. The series largely reflects Ludvigsen’s original filing structure for paper and photographic materials. Series 1. Subject Files [11 filing cabinets and 18 record center cartons] The Subject Files contain documents compiled by Ludvigsen on a wide variety of automotive topics, and are in general alphabetical order.

  • Jaguar Saloon Cars
Jaguar Saloon Cars A monthly series - Part 5 By Tony Johnson Daimler Sovereign (1966-1969) It was the Jaguar 420 that became the first Daimler under Jaguar’s ownership to simply become a rebadged Jaguar. Unlike the 2.5 litre V8 saloon the featured different mechanical components and interior appointments the Sovereign was simply a 420 with a Daimler fluted grille, rear number plate plinth and new badges. In all other respects the Sovereign and the 420 were the same. The Daimler Sovereign, unlike the 2.5 litre before it, offered the same fi+ngs and appointments although ,D’ badges replaced the Jaguar growler badge on the steering wheel horn boss centre and hubcaps. nlike the Jaguar 420, power steering was a standard fi+ng rather than an e-tra cost op.on and overdrive was always fi/ed if the manual gearbo- was specified. The 420 and Sovereign were slightly faster than the S Type 3.8 litre saloon achieving 00100 mph 4.5 seconds 2uicker than the 3.8 S Type. The 420 and Sovereign had rela.vely short lives with the 420 being replaced in 1348 with the introduc.on of the 5J4 whilst the Sovereign con.nuing un.l 1343 when the 5J4 based Daimler Sovereign was released 35 420G (1966-1970) As with all Jaguar saloons of the .me, the largest saloon was re0designated with anew numbering iden.ty as the 4207. Although clearly a revised edi.on of the outgoing 8ark 10, the new car received several upgrades to keep it modern and visually these were chie(y9 the grille centre bar and the waistline moulding which had been a later op.on on the 8ark 10.

The Daimler Motor Company Limited (GB) 1896 - 2011 Daimler Motor Company The Daimler Motor Company Limited (GB) 1896 - 2011 Daimler (GB) 1896-2011.doc 2 / 22 Daimler Motor Company The Daimler Motor Company Limited The Daimler Motor Company was a British motor vehicle manufacturing company, founded in 1896, and based in Coventry. The company became a subsidiary of Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) in 1910, and was acquired by Jaguar Cars in 1960. Ownership of the Daimler marque stayed with Jaguar Cars through subsequent mergers with British Motor Holdings and British Leyland, remaining with Jaguar when the company regained its independence in 1984. In 1989 the Daimler badge transferred to the ownership of the Ford Motor Company when Jaguar Cars became a subsidiary of the American giant, and was subsequently incorporated into Ford's Premier Automotive Group. In March 2008 the Daimler brand was included in Ford's sale of Jaguar Land Rover to Tata Motors of India. As of 2006, the use of the Daimler brand was limited to one model, the Daimler Super Eight. As of 2011, the brand appears to be dormant. Origins of the name Confusingly, the name Daimler is used by two completely separate groups of car manufacturers. The history of both companies can be traced back to the German engineer Gottlieb Daimler who built the first four- wheeled car in 1889. This was the origin of the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, which is translated as Daimler Motor Company (aka, Daimler Germany), which has manufactured vehicles since the 1890s. Gottlieb Daimler died in 1900, having sold licences to use the Daimler name in a number of countries.
